Scalable Synthesis of Calcium Fluoride Nanoparticles as a Novel Ultrasound Contrast Agent for Imaging Tumor Targeted Delivery of Therapeutics.

Ultrasound (US) imaging is one of the most widely used noninvasive diagnostic techniques in clinical practice due to its safety, real-time capability, and cost-effectiveness. However, traditional B-mode imaging provides limited information with low sensitivity. Recently microbubble (MB)-based contrast agents have been employed to enhance contrast signals while also facilitating the imaging of molecular targets in target tissues or pathological locations. Currently available MBs face several limitations, including large size (typically 1-10 μm), limited ability to penetrate beyond blood vessels

Efficacy of Calcium-Containing Eggshell Powder Supplementation on Urinary Fluoride and Fluorosis Symptoms in Women in the Ethiopian Rift Valley.

Dietary calcium binds Fluoride (F), thus preventing excess F absorption. We aimed to assess the efficacy of supplementing calcium-containing Eggshell Powder (ESP) on F absorption using urine F excretion and on fluorosis symptoms. In total, 82 women (41 Intervention Group, IG; 41 Control Group, CG) were recruited; overall, 39 in each group completed the trial. Morning spot urine was collected before (baseline, BL) and after (endline, EL) the intervention that was 6-months daily supplementation with 2.4 g ESP (providing ~1000 mg of calcium). Dental, skeletal, and non-skeletal fluorosis assessmen

Fluoride salts are no better at preventing new vertebral fractures than calcium-vitamin D in postmenopausal osteoporosis: the FAVOStudy.

Although fluoride salts have been shown to be capable of linearly increasing spinal bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal osteoporosis, the effects of this gain in density on the vertebral fracture rate remain controversial. We conducted a 2-year multicenter, prospective, randomized, double-masked clinical trial in 354 osteoporotic women with vertebral fractures (mean age 65.7 years). They received either fluoride (208 patients), given as sodium fluoride (50 mg/day) or as monofluorophosphate (200 mg/day or 150 mg/day), or a placebo (146 patients). All patients received daily supplements

Morphological, Histochemical, and Proteomic Analysis of the Effects of Fluoride and Amoxicillin, with Calcium and Vitamin D Supplementation, on Dental Enamel Formation.

Ameloblasts are specialized epithelial cells responsible for enamel formation, a process that requires tightly coordinated matrix secretion, proteolytic turnover, and hydroxyapatite crystal growth. Although genetically regulated, amelogenesis is susceptible to environmental modulation by agents such as fluoride and amoxicillin. Calcium and vitamin D supplementation have been proposed as potential protective factors against fluoride-induced enamel alterations. This study investigated whether combined exposure to fluoride and amoxicillin impairs ameloblast viability and enamel formation, and whe

The association of fluoride in drinking water with serum calcium, vitamin D and parathyroid hormone in pregnant women and newborn infants.

BACKGROUND: Chronic exposure to fluoride in drinking water causes an increase in plasma fluoride levels that is related to a reduction in calcium transport across the renal tubule endoplasmic reticulum and plasma membrane. In the present study, it was hypothesised that varying levels of fluoride present in drinking water are associated with serum levels of calcium and the related hormones vitamin D and parathyroid hormone in pregnant women and newborn infants. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included two groups based on the fluoride concentration in drinking water. One group was considere

Coexposure to fluoride and sulfur dioxide aggravates enamel mineralization disorders in mice by disrupting calcium homeostasis-mediated endoplasmic reticulum stress.

Prevalence of fluoride and sulfur dioxide (SO2) cocontamination in the environment poses a serious threat to various human organs, especially the teeth. However, direct evidence linking coexposure to fluoride and SO2 with enamel mineralization disorders is lacking. Here, we investigated the mechanisms through which fluoride and SO2 exposure, either alone or in combination, affects enamel mineralization in mouse and LS8 cell models. Coexposure to fluoride and SO2 resulted in more severe enamel mineralization disorders compared with those in the control or individual exposure groups. The coexpos
