INTRODUCTION: We report a case of primary combined large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC)--pure mucinous carcinoma of the gallbladder (MANEC)--which represents the first description of this entity.
METHODS: The patient is a 59-year-old Italian male who underwent cholecystectomy under a preoperative diagnosis of cholecystitis with gallstones and gallbladder tumour. During laparotomy, cholecystectomy, liver wedge resection and regional lymph node dissection were performed. The resected gallbladder showed a thickened wall, gallstones and a 4 cm gelatinous, cauliflower-like soft tissue mass.

A 69-year-old man had undertaken left upper lobectomy (ND 2 a) with partial resection of the left lower lobe under the diagnosis of a primary lung cancer, T2N0M0, stage IB in June, 2002. The histopathological diagnosis was large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC), T3N0M0, stage IIB. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 25. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed an enhanced tumor in the left adrenal lesion, 3 cm in diameter, in October, 2003. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a slightly low intensity mass on T1-weighted imaging and slightly high intensity on T2-weighted

UNLABELLED: Transgender and gender-diverse young adults, most of whom identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or queer, encounter considerable health, social, and systemic inequalities, leading to higher rates of trauma exposure, mental health difficulties, and suicidal thoughts and behaviours compared to their heterosexual and cisgender peers. The complex relationship between sexual orientation, gender identity, and suicide has received considerable attention, primarily from quantitative research focused on risk narratives, rather than an individual's lived experiences or specific healthcare need

Pulmonary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is a rare, aggressive lung tumor marked by significant molecular heterogeneity. In a study of 590 patients across two independent cohorts, we observe comparable overall survival across treatment regimens (chemotherapy, chemoimmunotherapy, immunotherapy) without unexpected adverse events. Genomic analysis identifies distinct non-small cell lung cancer-like (NSCLC-like, KEAP1, KRAS, STK11 mutations) and SCLC-like (RB1, TP53 mutations) LCNEC subtypes, with 80% aligning with SCLC transcriptional profiles. Serial sampling reveals stable mutation

AIMS: Pulmonary large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) can be difficult to diagnose due to histological overlap with small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC). SCLC comprises multiple transcription factor-based subtypes. We aimed to evaluate the clinicopathological significance of transcription factor-based subtyping in pulmonary LCNEC.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We identified a consecutive series of 117 patients in 2010-2024 with samples diagnosed as pulmonary LCNEC (n = 70) or high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma with combined or intermediate morphology (n = 47). Cytomorphological score was assessed a

BACKGROUND: Primary neuroendocrine carcinoma of the urethra is a very uncommon malignant tumor, and no reports have been made about large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) in the past.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 43-year-old non-smoking female patient presented with symptoms of dysuria and urination-related pain at TangDu Hospital in April 2022. A biopsy subsequently confirmed the diagnosis of primary urethral LCNEC. Following radical resection, the patient exhibited abnormal lymph node enlargement in the first month and pelvic metastases in the fourth month. Ultimately, the patient succumbed to

Pulmonary large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is a rare but aggressive malignancy of the lung. Its nonspecific presentation and propensity for severe disease at the time of diagnosis create challenges in treatment. We report a case of an asymptomatic 61-year-old female who was incidentally found to have a pulmonary nodule after a fall. Upon further workup, she was found to have an aggressive LCNEC. The patient underwent a robotic-assisted left upper lobectomy, which was complicated by left lower lobe bronchus kinking and post-obstructive atelectasis, warranting further management by th

Early identification of acute pancreatitis etiology is essential for choosing the best therapeutic management. The main causes are cholelithiasis and alcohol consumption. Tumors that obstruct the main pancreatic duct are uncommon causes of acute pancreatitis. Duodenal neuroendocrine tumors are rare entities and may be exceptional causes of acute pancreatitis. A 57-year-old male, with associated severe cardiovascular pathology, was admitted with clinical and biological picture of acute pancreatitis. Biliary and alcoholic causes were excluded. Abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan

Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the urinary tract is a rare disease. We present a relatively large retrospective cohort of urinary LCNEC, 20 from the urinary bladder, and 2 from the ureter, from a single institution. The patients included 16 men and 6 women with a median age of 74.5 years. Most LCNEC presented at an advanced stage with tumors invading the muscularis propria and beyond (21/22). Eight cases were pure LCNEC, while 14 cases were mixed with other histologic types, including conventional urothelial carcinoma (n=9), carcinoma in situ (n=7), small cell carcinoma (n=6),

Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the urinary tract is a high-grade neuroendocrine tumor with distinct pathological features, usually portending an aggressive clinical behavior in comparison to conventional urothelial carcinoma. Due to its low prevalence, little is known about its clinical management and there is no current standard of care. The aim of this review was to summarize the current knowledge about LCNEC of the bladder, ureter and kidney, with relevance to diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic issues, through a systematic analysis of clinical, pathological and outcome d

Large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the endometrium is an extremely rare, high-grade malignant tumor. We herein report a case of a rapidly growing LCNEC arising in the endometrium. A 52-year-old woman was referred to Toyooka Hospital (Tooyoka, Japan) due to genital bleeding in February 2016. There had been no abnormalities on a regular gynecological and physical examination 3 months prior to the consultation. Imaging (computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging) and a pelvic examination revealed a tumor sized 16.9×8.4×7.8 mm occupying the intrauterine cavity and extending int

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The lung large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) is a very rare aggressive neuroendocrine tumor with a high propensity to metastasize and very poor prognosis. We report an atypical presentation of lung LCNEC was diagnosed from a metastatic nodule on the breast.
METHODS: Our patient is a 59-years-old woman that presented in March 2014 nonproductive cough. A CT scan showed multiple brain, lung, adrenal gland and liver secondary lesions; moreover, it revealed a breast right nodule near the chest measuring 1.8 cm. The breast nodule and lung lesions were biopsied and their

We report a rare case of large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the lung with cancer-associated retinopathy (CAR). To our knowledge, only two cases of LCNEC with CAR have been reported, one in 1995 and another in 2013. CAR, typically associated with small cell lung cancer (SCLC), is one of the paraneoplastic syndromes with deterioration of visual acuity, visual field constriction, and photophobia. CAR is caused by an autoimmune system reaction against the same antigen in the tumor and retinal photoreceptor cells. To diagnose CAR, genetic retinal dystrophies or any other medical causes

We report the case of a 41-year-old man with symptoms of exertional dyspnoea and easy fatigue. Physical examination revealed a palpable mass with knocking pain over the right flank region and a cardiac murmur with jugular vein engorgement. Transoesophageal echocardiography revealed a right atrial mass that caused tricuspid inflow obstruction. Computed tomography revealed a giant mass (approximately 15 x 15 cm2) in the right kidney; this finding was consistent with renal cell carcinoma. Despite the metastatic status, right nephrectomy was performed and the intra-atrial tumour thrombus (TT) was

Lambert-Eaton syndrome (LES) is an immune-mediated disorder of the presynaptic neuromuscular junction due to the blocking effect of the voltage-gated calcium channel (VGCC) antibodies. Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is the most common cause of LES. We report an unusual case of LES associated with large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the lung. In this case, clinical symptoms of LES predated the diagnosis of LCNEC by 6 years. After tumor resection, the patient experienced clinical and electrophysiological improvement. In addition, he had a decrease in VGCC antibody titer from 130 to 80

We present herein the case of a patient with solitary metachronous contralateral adrenal metastasis from renal cell cancer. The patient had undergone left radical nephrectomy and adrenalectomy for localized renal cancer 7 years previously. Laparoscopic transperitoneal right adrenalectomy was performed. The postoperative period was uneventful. Histology showed right adrenal metastasis from renal cancer. At 6-month follow-up, there was no evidence of recurrence.
