An 83-year-old man was admitted to our hospital complaining of general fatigue, fever, and obstructive jaundice. Percutaneous transhepatic bile duct drainage was performed. Gastroduodenal fiberscopy revealed carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater, and early gastric cancer was suspected. A pancreatoduodenectomy with lymph node dissection was performed. Although a biopsy specimen from the gastric lesion was suspected to be well-differentiated adenocarcinoma, no cancerous lesion was found in a specimen resected from the stomach. The histopathologic findings of the ampullary lesion were compatible with

Inguinal lymphonodal metastases of an adenocarcinoma were diagnosed in a 40-year-old patient by ultrasound guided puncture. The leading symptom was elephantiasis preferentially of the right lower extremity. In addition, atypical mycobacteriosis was detected later on. The causal gastric cancer had not been identified during two years until the fourth gastroscopy assisted by endoscopic ultrasonography revealed the lesion. No regional lymph node metastases were found while distant metastases in terms of inguinal lymph nodes were already present.

A case of a pedunculated adenomatous polyp of the sigmoid colon was found to have a primary focus of signet ring cell carcinoma. Histologic examination of the medium-sized polyp was consistent with an adenoma to carcinoma sequence for signet ring cell carcinoma of the colon, similar to that for the common adenocarcinomas.

The patient is a woman in her 70s. She came to our hospital because of constipation and abdominal pain. An abdominal CT scan showed a sigmoid colon mass and air in the surrounding mesentery, and an ileostomy was constructed based on the diagnosis of intramesenteric perforation of sigmoid colon cancer. Tumor biopsy by colonoscopy revealed a diagnosis of signet-ring-cell carcinoma. After 6 courses of mFOLFOX6 neoadjuvant chemotherapy, the patient underwent laparoscopic sigmoid colon resection and closure of the ileostomy. The final pathological diagnosis was pT4aN2aM0, pStage Ⅲc, RM1, microsatel

BACKGROUND: Primary cancer of the appendix, especially signet-ring cell carcinoma, is an uncommon disease, and it is rarely suspected before surgery. Diffuse intestinal ganglioneuromatosis that is not associated with neurofibromatosis-1 or multiple endocrine neoplasia 2b is also rare. The most frequent symptoms caused by it are changes in bowel habits, abdominal pain, and occlusive episodes.
CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was a 48-year-old woman who had a month-long history of chronic abdominal pain, fullness, constipation, and diarrhoea. Enhanced computed tomography showed a 100-mm irregular

Signet ring cell carcinoma (SRC) of the ampulla of Vater is extremely rare and the histogenesis remains unknown. In the present study, to investigate the immunohistochemical phenotypes, discuss the histological origin and evaluate the correlation between the immunohistochemical phenotypes and survival of ampullary SRC patients, a retrospective review was conducted. This included all ampullary carcinoma patients treated at The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, and was performed over a five-year period between 2008 and 2012. Eight resected ampullary SRC specime

Signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) of the ampulla of Vater is uncommon, and only 13 cases have been previously described. We herein report a rare case of a 43-year-old woman with SRCC in the ampulla of Vater. Although this histologic type of cancer generally predicts a poor prognosis elsewhere in the gastrointestinal tract, the present patient has survived with no evidence of recurrence for 7.5 years. The patient was hospitalized for pruritus and jaundice. She underwent a pancreaticoduodenectomy with an extended lymphadenectomy for ampullary carcinoma. This neoplasm was classified as AcdbBi, 2.

We encountered a rare variant of carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater in a 68-year-old man with postprandial abdominal pain and nausea. Ultrasonography and computed tomography showed a dilated common bile duct and main pancreatic duct. At duodenoscopy, the papilla of Vater was enlarged, and biopsy specimens taken from the papilla revealed signet-ring-cell carcinoma. Endoscopic ultrasonography showed a hypoechoic tumor without pancreatic invasion. Pylorus-preserving pancreatoduodenectomy was performed. Histologic examination of resected specimens indicated lymphatic and vascular invasion, but surg

This report describes a rare case of invasive extramammary Paget disease of the vulva with signet ring cell morphology in a 58-yr-old woman with a history of signet ring cell carcinoma of the stomach. This case was initially misinterpreted as a metastatic gastric carcinoma to the vulva because an initial small, superficial biopsy specimen showed infiltration of signet ring cells in the dermis without intraepidermal Paget cells. However, a surgically resected specimen showed concordant immunophenotypes in both intraepidermal Paget cells and intradermal signet ring cell components with immunorea

BACKGROUND: Synchronous primary gynecologic tumors are relatively uncommon with the diagnosis often made following initial surgery.
CASE: A multiparous female in her 50s with postmenopausal bleeding was referred to our institution with a biopsy-proven diagnosis of endometrial cancer. Preoperative physical exam revealed a suspicious cervical lesion and upon biopsy she was found to have a signet-ring cell carcinoma of the cervix. Secondary to morbid obesity, the patient was not a candidate for a radical hysterectomy and was treated with curative radiation for stage IB 1 cervical carcinoma and c

Gastric signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) is a rare form of gastric cancer characterized by mucus-rich tumor cells forming a distinctive ring-like appearance and is exceedingly rare in children, accounting for less than 1% of all childhood malignancies. We report a case of a 14-year-old patient who presented with melena, hematemesis, and syncope. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed an ulcerative mass located in the gastric cardia. Histopathological examination confirmed gastric adenocarcinoma demonstrating signet-ring cell features. The patient underwent laparoscopic-assisted radical pro

BACKGROUND: Primary signet ring cell carcinoma of the urethra in women is an exceedingly rare malignancy. It was first reported in postmenopausal women in 1987, and only five patients have been reported to date.
CASE SUMMARY: A 61-year-old woman presented with irregular vaginal bleeding, and subsequent evaluation identified a tumor located in the distal urethra. Upon diagnosis of primary urethral carcinoma, she underwent a distal urethrectomy. Histopathological analysis demonstrated that the tumor consisted of a combination of intestinal adenocarcinoma and signet ring cell carcinoma. At the 1

Appendiceal signet ring cell carcinoma is an exceedingly rare neoplasm which makes up only 4% of carcinomas of the appendix. It is a rare cause of abdominal pain which can mimic acute appendicitis. This case reports a 77-year-old female who presented to the emergency room with a complaint of right lower quadrant abdominal pain. After exploratory laparoscopy and histopathological studies, the patient was found to have peritoneal carcinomatosis and appendiceal signet ring cell carcinoma. This diagnosis unfortunately carries a relatively poor prognosis due to its aggressive nature. This study dis

INTRODUCTION: Signet-ring cell carcinoma is an extremely rare histological variant of upper urinary tract carcinoma, associated with poor prognosis.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 75-year-old female diagnosed with left primary upper urinary tract signet-ring cell carcinoma, initially treated with surgery. Post-surgical development of multifocal metastases was followed by a devastating clinical course. An autopsy confirmed the tumor's primary origin in the upper urinary tract.
CONCLUSION: We experienced a case of upper urinary tract signet-ring cell carcinoma, with a rare opportunit

We present a case of non-ampullary duodenal signet-ring cell carcinoma treated by endoscopic mucosal resection. The patient is a 61-year-old male with a history of coronary artery bypass grafting, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and diabetes mellitus complicated by end-stage renal disease requiring peritoneal dialysis who presented for routine endoscopic screening. A 9 mm protruding mass was found in the second part of the duodenum, proximal to the ampulla of Vater. Biopsy of the mass revealed proliferation of signet-ring cells with vacuolated foamy cytoplasm and displaced ovoid nuclei, consistent

In this paper, we report a rare case of cecal Signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) with Distal intramural spread (DIS) along with a review of the literature. A 71-year-old woman suffering from vomiting, abdominal pain, and abdominal distension was admitted to a hospital and was suspected to have ileus. She was transferred to our hospital and diagnosed with cecal cancer with intestinal obstruction. Laparotomy was performed, after which she was diagnosed with cecal SRCC by histopathological examination. A submucosal lesion was located 55 mm from the distal side of the main tumor. This lesion was al

Primary adenocarcinoma of the appendix is a rare malignancythat constitutes < 0.5% of all gastrointestinalneoplasms. Moreover, primary signet ring cell carcinomaof the appendix is an exceedingly rare entity. In the present report, we describe a rare case of primary signet ring cell carcinoma of the appendix with ovarian metastasesand unresectable peritoneal dissemination occurring in a 45-year-old female patient. She was clinically misdiagnosed as torsion of ovarian cyst. She underwent appendicectomy and unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.Histopathology revealed signet ring cell carcinoma and a
