Local anesthesia in adolescents with high anxiety levels.

OBJECTIVE: Aim: To assess the effectiveness of local anesthesia in the treatment of acute forms of caries, pulpitis, and periodontitis in adolescents with a high level of baseline anxiety. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and Methods: 1.7 ml of local amide anesthetic from the articaine series was used. The assessment of anxiety was carried out according to the method of Ch.D. Spielberger - Y.L. Khanina). Pain intensity was measured on the VAS scale. Statistical data processing was carried out in the program "MS Excel 7" Windows and "STATISTICA" v. 6.0. RESULTS: Results: Complete pain relief w

Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block Plus Cryotherapy Anesthesia Success in Pulpectomy Of Primary Molars with Irreversible Pulpitis: a Randomized Clinical Trial.

PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of cryotherapy applications on the success of an inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) to reduce pain severity during a pulpectomy of primary molars with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis (SIP). The secondary purpose was to assess children's behavior before and during pulpectomy procedures and the need for supplementary local anesthesia injections. METHODS: A randomized parallel controlled trial included 170 healthy children aged five to nine years who complained of carious primary mandibular second molars with SIP. After an

Local anaesthesia for surgical extraction of mandibular third molars: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES: Pain management for the extraction of the mandibular third molar is a challenge as compelling evidence in comparative anaesthetics is currently lacking. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thorough literature searches took place in PubMed, ScienceDirect, CENTRAL, Embase, Web of Science, CBM, and CNKI. Thirty-three trials were meta-analysed using a Bayesian statistical approach within the random-effects model. Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation was performed to determine the overall quality of evidence across all comparisons. RESULTS: In terms of success rate, a

The effect of preoperative submucosal administration of tramadol on the success rate of inferior alveolar nerve block on mandibular molars with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis: a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial.

AIM: This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, clinical trial was designed to improve the success of inferior alveolar nerve blocks (IANB) in mandibular molars with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis (SIP) by means of preoperative submucosal administration of 50 mg tramadol. METHODOLOGY: Forty-two patients with a mandibular molar diagnosed with SIP took part in the trial. Patients were assigned randomly to one of two groups: tramadol group (n = 21), who received 50 mg tramadol in 1 mL by mandibular infiltration, and a placebo group (n = 21), who received 1 mL of normal saline administ

Comparison Of Anaesthetic Efficacy Of Articaine And Lidocaine In Nonsurgical Endodontic Treatment Of Permanent Mandibular Molars With Symptomatic Irreversible Pulpitis. A Randomized Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block (IANB) with Buccal Infiltration (BI) anaesthesia is required to completely anesthetize the mandibular molars with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. 4% Articaine and 2% Lidocaine provide local anaesthesia during the nonsurgical endodontic treatment of mandibular molars with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Objective of the study was to compare the effect of Articaine and Lidocaine in the combination of Inferior alveolar nerve block with buccal infiltration anaesthesia during the nonsurgical endodontic treatment of mandibular molars with symptomatic I

Buccal Nerve Trunk Block Anesthetizes the Buccal Mucosa Beyond the Papilla of the Parotid Duct.

PURPOSE: The limited area of anesthesia of the buccal mucosa with concomitant conventional buccal nerve block (conventional BNB) may be involved in failed inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB). The aims of this study were to examine the extent of anesthesia by buccal nerve trunk block (BNTB) and compare the success rates of IANB with BNB. METHODS: This prospective parallel-group randomized single-blinded clinical trial included patients scheduled for removal of a mandibular third molar at the Nippon Dental University Hospital between September 2021 and March 2022. [Pregnancy and lactation period: Which local anesthetics and analgesics?].

The aim of this paper is to show relevant aspects of dental treatment in pregnancy. Common medication used in dental offices should be highlighted in special regard to the pregnant patient during dental treatment. The reader should gain more security in the election of the proper drugs for local anesthesia and oral analgesics. Local anaesthetics such as articain with adrenalin in a dilution of 1 : 200 000 can be used for dental treatment at any time. Paracetamol should be used as first line oral analgesic. Elective dental procedures should be postponed after delivery and after lactation period

The pulpal anesthetic efficacy of articaine versus lidocaine in dentistry: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The authors evaluated published evidence from controlled clinical trials regarding the efficacy of two local anesthetic solutions in providing successful pulpal anesthesia. METHODS: The authors searched MEDLINE and Embase databases to identify peer-reviewed randomized controlled trials in which researchers directly compared articaine and lidocaine local anesthetic solutions in adult participants. They extracted study characteristics and outcomes data as a basis for meta-analysis. They completed subgroup analyses for both infiltration and mandibular inferior alveolar block anesthet

Transient diplopia following maxillary local anesthetic injection.

A 36-year-old female patient developed diplopia and an ipsilateral lateral rectus paresis following local anesthetic administration to remove a left maxillary second molar. Complete resolution occurred within 3 hours. The clinical examination and management plan are reviewed for this uncommon occurrence. The relevant anatomical pathways are discussed and illustrated with photographs.

Effects of transitory lingual nerve impairment on speech: an acoustic study of vowel sounds.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of the lingual nerve impairment on phonetic quality of speech by analyzing the main acoustic features of vowel sounds when the normal lingual nerve function was partly distorted by local anesthesia. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study group consisted of 7 men, whose right side lingual nerve was anesthetized with 0.8 mL of Ultracaine D-Suprarenin (Aventis Pharma Deutschland GmpH, Frankfurt am Main, Germany). The speech material analyzed consisted of 8 vowels produced in sentence context by speakers. Every utterance was repeated 10 times

Peripheral facial nerve paralysis after local upper dental anaesthesia.

A 50-year-old female patient developed a facial nerve paralysis after a local upper dental block. This complication is known to occur after an inferior dental block but has only sporadically been reported after local anaesthetic procedures in the upper jaw for dental treatment. Some possible pathogenetic mechanisms are discussed.
