It is very important to determine the precise internal thyroid doses of Fukushima residents involved in the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster, particularly for small children. This has been challenging due to the lack of direct human measurements to identify 131I, the biggest contributor to the thyroid doses. The results of radiotherapy in carcinoma of the cervix stages I and II at the University of Missouri-Columbia (UMC) in the period between 1975 and 1980 were analyzed. The failure rate was 13/58 (22.4%). While the failure was 8% (3/36) in ectocervical cancer it was 45% (10/22) in endocervical cancer. A modification of the microdissection technique of Hanssen was utilized in dogs to measure superficial (SNGFR) and juxtamedullary nephron filtration rate (JMGFR) in control and saline-expanded dogs. During control studies SNGFR was 60+/-4 and JMGFR was 72+/-5 nl/min. During saline loading SNGFR was 74+/-8 and JMGFR was 65+/-6 nl/min. One hundred and forty nine patients with carcinoma of the tongue or floor of mouth were treated with interstitial irradiation (+/- external beam therapy) using caesium needles or iridium wires between 1970 and 1986.
