Pseudomonas aeruginosa JB2 can use 2-chlorobenzoate (2-CBa), 3-CBa, 2,3-dichlorobenzoate (2,3-DCBa), and 2,5-DCBa as sole carbon and energy sources, whereas strain 142 can only grow on 2-CBa and 2,4-DCBa. Both strains, however, harbor the same halobenzoate 1,2-dioxygenase (ohbAB) and chlorocatechol (clcABD) degradation genes necessary for the metabolism of ortho-CBas. In addition, the hybABCD operon, encoding a salicylate 5-hydroxylase, is also found in both strains. We present the synthesis of two coordination compounds, [Cd2(4-Clbz)4(4-avp)4] (1) and [Cd2(4-Brbz)4(4-avp)4] (2), employing the N-donor ligand 4-[2-(9-anthryl)vinyl]pyridine (4-avp) in combination with the O-donor ligands 4-chlorobenzoate (4-Clbz) and 4-bromobenzoate (4-Brbz), respectively. Continuous wound infusion (CWI) may protect from inflammation, hyperalgesia and persistent pain. The crystal structure of human 20alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (AKR1C1) in ternary complex with the coenzyme NADP (+) and the potent inhibitor 3,5-dichlorosalicylic acid was determined at a resolution of 1.8 A. The inhibitor is held in place by a network of hydrogen bonding interactions with the active site residues Tyr55, His117, and His222.
