Periodontal disease (PD) is one of the main causes of periodontal bone resorption and tooth loss in adults. How to repair the alveolar bone effectively has always been a challenge. This study was designed to clarify the effects and the underlying molecular mechanisms of chlorogenic acid (CGA) on osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). In this study, we used CGA to treat hDPSCs. The osteogenic experiment showed that CGA can promote hDPSCs osteogenic differentiation. RNA-Seq and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction showed that CGA treatment enhanced the e

Chlorogenic acid (CGA) exhibits substantial biological function in antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-lipogenesis and anti-inflammatory activities. Increased sebum production and inflammation are considered important for the development of acne. However, the therapeutic effects of CGA on acne vulgaris remain unexplored. In this study, to assess the effects and underlying mechanisms of CGA on acne, a model of skin inflammation in ears of ICR mouse induced by living Propionibacterium acnes was used. 24 hours after 1.0 × 107 CFU, P. acnes were intradermally injected into the ears of the ICR mouse.

Arsenic is a potent and toxic heavy metal found in the environment that causes health problems, including liver disease, in humans and animals. Chlorogenic acid (CA) is the most abundant caffeoylquinic acid isomer present in plants. This study aims to assess how CA protects the liver tissue following sodium arsenite (NaAsO2)-induced toxicity in mice. Male Swiss mice were allocated into 5 groups: Control, intragastrically administered CA (200 mg/kg), intragastrically administered NaAsO2 (5 mg/kg), and two groups administered with CA (100 and 200 mg/kg) and NaAsO2. CA was administered 30 min bef

Hepatic steatosis can cause liver dysfunction and cell injury, on which natural functional factors are expected to be an effective approach for long-term intervention. However, the cellular molecular mechanisms are unclear. Chlorogenic acid is a phenolic compound, which can regulate lipid metabolism and is abundant in burdock root. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential molecular mechanism of the effect of chlorogenic acid from burdock root (ACQA) on steatosis in HepG2 cells. In this study, we found that ACQA reduced the number of lipid droplets and lipid levels in oleic acid-t

Chlorogenic acids, esters of hydroxycinnamic acids with quinic acid, are abundant plant metabolites with over 400 known derivatives. Due to the limited availability of commercial standards, mass spectrometry fragmentation data are essential for structural identification. We acquired fragmentation spectra of six chlorogenic acid homologs in both positive- and negative-ion modes using direct infusion mass spectrometry. In positive-ion mode, sodiated molecules provided additional structural information in addition to that from protonated molecules, although the difference in substitution position

Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a leading global cause of mortality, characterized by complex pathological changes such as myocardial hypertrophy, fibrosis, and inflammation. Chlorogenic acid (CGA), a key component of Simiao Yong'an Decoction, improves cardiac function and exerts antifibrotic effects, but its mechanism remains unclear. Using transverse aortic constriction (TAC) mice, we found CGA significantly increased left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) in TAC mice at 8 weeks. At 7 days post-TAC, flow cytometry showed CGA reduced cardiac neutrophils, circulating monocytes, patrolling mono

In this study, we systematically explored the molecular interaction mechanism between α-lactalbumin (ALA) and chlorogenic acid (CA), and designed the functional peptide TQVYW based on key interfacial residues (THR33, GLN54, VAL99, TYR103, and TRP104) identified from ALA through molecular docking with CA. Furthermore, we elucidated the synergistic anti-inflammatory mechanism of the peptide TQVYW in combination with CA. The study showed that ALA binds CA via hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions, forming a stable molten globule. Further studies showed that TQVYW-CA suppressed reactive oxyg

Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is a naturally occurring polyphenol found in coffee, as well as in various fruits and vegetables, and is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. However, recent studies suggest that CGA may exhibit dose-dependent biological effects and prooxidant activity. This study aims to investigate the genotoxic impact of CGA on the reproductive organs of mice. Swiss mice were divided into six groups (n = 18). Group 1 received distilled water (control), Group 2 received 15-mg/kg cyclophosphamide (CP) injections (ip). Groups 3-6 were orally administered CGA at 3.7

The development of large-scale and intensive breeding models has led to increasingly prominent oxidative stress issues in animal husbandry production. Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is an important extract with a variety of biological activities. It is an effective antioxidant drug and shows different antioxidant capacities due to its different chemical structures. Therefore, it is a new research target to determine the proportion of chlorogenic acid isomers with high antioxidant activity to resist the damage caused by oxidative stress. In this experiment, the antioxidant activities of the chlorogenic

Postharvest broccoli is highly susceptible to water loss and wilting, accompanied by a color deterioration of the heads from dark green to yellow, severely compromising its commercial value. The effects and underlying mechanisms of chlorogenic acid (CGA) treatment on reactive oxygen species (ROS) metabolism and ascorbate-glutathione (AsA-GSH) cycle in broccoli were investigated. The results showed that CGA treatment efficiently mitigated the quality deterioration in broccoli, which was evidenced by the lower yellowing index, the higher h° value and chlorophyll level of the treated samples.
