Multimodal etiology of drug induced angle closure with topical glaucoma therapy.

PURPOSE: We present a case of acute onset of bilateral choroidal effusions leading to angle closure glaucoma attributed to multiple mechanism of actions causing ciliary body and aqueous flow disruption in the setting of topical glaucoma therapy with latanoprost, brimonidine 0.2%, and Brinzolamide 0.1%. OBSERVATION: The patient presented with ocular hypertension in the setting of bilateral choroidal effusions, leading to angle closure without pupillary block. After cessation of the glaucoma drops and starting steroids and cycloplegics, the patient's symptoms resolved. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPORTAN

Serous retinal detachment following glaucoma filtering surgery.

We report the occurrence of serous retinal detachment in association with choroidal effusion and hypotony in six eyes that had undergone glaucoma filtering surgery. Hypotony with choroidal effusion was documented in five patients before the onset of serous retinal detachment. While one patient underwent vitrectomy, treatment was conservative in the other patients. Serous retinal detachment and choroidal effusions resolved spontaneously as the intraocular pressure normalized. Although one patient regained preoperative visual acuity, all other patients lost at least one line of Snellen acuity.

Bilateral Secondary Angle Closure During Daratumumab Infusion: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Daratumumab is an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody approved for use in multiple myeloma in 2015 and under investigation for use in light-chain amyloidosis. We report a case of a patient with amyloidosis who developed bilateral, acute secondary angle closure during an infusion of daratumumab. Ultrasound biomicroscopy obtained 3 days after the onset of her symptoms demonstrated the cause to be bilateral choroidal effusions. Taken together with several previous case reports, the evidence suggests that, like topiramate, daratumumab is associated with the idiosyncratic reaction of choroidal effusions,

Bilateral choroidal detachment following cataract surgery in a 40-day-old infant.

We report a case of bilateral choroidal detachment that occurred shortly after uneventful bilateral lensectomy and anterior vitrectomy. B-scan ultrasonography showed severe choroidal detachment in the right eye accompanied by limited detachment of the overlying retina and mild choroidal effusion in the left eye. Two bilateral peribulbar injections of corticosteroid 5 days apart resulted in complete resolution of the choroidal effusion in each eye.

Nanophthalmos with uveal effusion: clinical and embryologic considerations.

Three brothers were found to have nanophthalmos as evidenced by marked hyperopia, decreased global axial length, and shallow anterior chambers. The thickness of the lens, measured with A-scan ultrasound biometry in two cases, was much greater than normal. Choroidal thickening with shallow retinal detachments without breaks was found in those patients. Fluorescein angioscopy demonstrated leaks beneath the serous retinal detachments in one. The spontaneous presence of choroidal effusions and retinal detachments in nanophthalmic patients has been reported only rarely. The present findings emphasi

Perioperative Propranolol: A Useful Adjunct for Glaucoma Surgery in Sturge-Weber Syndrome.

PURPOSE: Ocular manifestations of Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) include choroidal hemangioma and glaucoma. Intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction in these patients commonly is associated with sight-threatening choroidal effusions. Oral propranolol is the standard of care for infantile cutaneous hemangioma, but its role in choroidal hemangioma largely is unexplored. We studied the role of perioperative oral propranolol during glaucoma surgery in SWS. DESIGN: Prospective, nonrandomized case series with historical controls. PARTICIPANTS: Fourteen eyes of 12 patients with SWS scheduled for glaucoma

Racecadotril induced bilateral uveal effusion: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Uveal effusion is a sight threatening condition, due to possible acute angle-closure glaucoma and maculopathy. We present a case of bilateral uveal effusion after taking racecadotril, an enkephalinase inhibitor used as a medical treatment for diarrhea. Uveal effusion after the use of racecadotril has not been described in literature. CASE PRESENTATION: A 76-year-old woman presented with blurred vision in both eyes. Fundoscopy and B-scan ultrasound showed bilateral choroidal effusion. The anterior chamber was narrow, but the intra ocular pressure remained normal. The medication rev

Uveal effusion in Hunter's syndrome. Evidence that abnormal sclera is responsible for the uveal effusion syndrome.

A patient with Hunter's Syndrome (systemic mucopolysaccharidosis type II) was evaluated for bilateral uveal effusion syndrome. The right eye showed a circular peripheral choroidal detachment for 360 degrees. The left eye showed a larger circular peripheral choroidal detachment and an exudative retinal detachment. Evaluation of the sclera during combined sclerectomies and sclerostomies of the left eye revealed markedly thickening sclera and a reduced number of vortex veins. The surgery resulted in complete resolution of the choroidal detachment and exudative retinal detachment of the left eye.

[Leopard-spot pattern in fluorescein angiography].

The uveal effusion syndrome is a rare disease characterized by serous choroidal detachment. The pathogenesis of idiopathic uveal effusion syndrome has not yet been conclusively established. One hypothesis is an abnormality of diffusion of extravascular proteins in the choroid leading to decompensation of the pigment epithelium pumping capacity. Fluid then accumulates in the subretinal space leading to retinal detachment which results in loss of visual acuity. It typically affects males and hypermetropia is another risk factor. When looking at the fundus a circular serous detachment of the chor
