Dilation of the left renal vein: an indicator of spontaneous splenorenal shunt in chronic liver disease patients.

OBJECTIVES: Spontaneous splenorenal shunts (SSS) in chronic liver disease (CLD) impact liver perfusion and prognosis post-liver transplantation. This study aims to identify radiological findings that predict the presence of SSS in CLD patients and to examine the relationship between SSS and left renal vein diameter. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on 150 adult patients evaluated for liver transplants from June 2018 to April 2021. The study groups included healthy controls (Group 1), CLD patients without SSS (Group 2), and those with SSS (Group 3). Multidetector CT angiography was

[Some specific indices for stress tests in patients with ischemic heart disease concurrent with chronic cholecystitis].

The myocardial coronary reserve and functional state were studied in patients with ischemic heart disease concurrent with chronic choletistitis against the background of a stress-test (veloergometry). Particular features are discussed of hemodynamic changes in conducting exercise tolerance tests in coronary patients presenting with diseases that lead to a reduction in the myocardial coronary reserve and decrement in performance capability of the heart.

Systemic immune-inflammatory indicators and bone mineral density in chronic kidney disease patients: A cross-sectional research from NHANES 2011 to 2018.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to look at the relationship between the Systemic Immune Inflammatory Index (SII) and bone mineral density (BMD) in the pelvis, left upper and lower limbs, lumbar spine, thoracic spine, and trunk in a chronic kidney disease (CKD) population in the United States. METHODS: The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2011-2016) yielded 2302 people with CKD aged >18 years. CKD was defined as eGFR less than 90 ml/min/1.73 m2 or eGFR greater than 90 ml/min/1.73 m2 with urine ACR greater than 30 mg/L.SII was calculated as PC * (NC / LC) from platele

Association of Patients' Knowledge on the Disease and Its Management with Indicators of Disease Severity and Individual Characteristics in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Results from COSYCONET 2.

BACKGROUND: In patients with chronic diseases, including those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), knowledge on the disease and its self-management is considered as relevant for improving disease control and long-term outcome. We studied to which extent components of knowledge depended on potential predictors, such as participation in educational programs and disease severity. For example, the perception of exacerbations or GOLD grade might modulate the content and reliability of COPD understanding. METHODS: Data from the German COSYCONET 2 COPD cohort was used, and 13 question

National Institutes of Health chronic graft-versus-host disease staging in severely affected patients: organ and global scoring correlate with established indicators of disease severity and prognosis.

Between 2004 and 2010, 189 adult patients were enrolled on the National Cancer Institute's cross-sectional chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) natural history study. Patients were evaluated by multiple disease scales and outcome measures, including the 2005 National Institutes of Health (NIH) Consensus Project cGVHD severity scores. The purpose of this study was to assess the validity of the NIH scoring variables as determinants of disease severity in severely affected patients in efforts to standardize clinician evaluation and staging of cGVHD. Out of 189 patients enrolled, 125 met the

Healthcare claims and health interview survey data for chronic disease surveillance: agreement and comparative validity of prevalence indicators for 20 chronic conditions in a general population sample in France.

Healthcare claims data are increasingly used to derive chronic condition (CC) surveillance indicators, although comparative evidence with self-reported data remains scarce. We explored the agreement and comparative validity (concurrent and predictive) of 20 CC prevalence indicators independently constructed using the French National Health Data System (SNDS) and Health, Health Care, and Insurance Survey (ESPS 2010-2014). Individual data from 5039 ESPS participants aged ≥25 years, representative of the 2010 French general population, were linked to the SNDS. Follow-up data included a 2014 healt

Pleth variability index as a non-invasive prognostic indicator in acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

BACKGROUND: Early risk stratification in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbations is essential for effective management. The Pleth Variability Index (PVI), a non-invasive parameter derived from photoplethysmographic waveforms, has been evaluated in various clinical settings; however, its relevance to COPD exacerbation severity in adults remains unclear. This study aimed to assess the association between admission PVI values and COPD exacerbation severity, hospital admission, and 30-day mortality. METHODS: This prospective, single-center study was conducted in a tertiary hospi

Discordance Between Glycated Hemoglobin A1c and the Glucose Management Indicator in People With Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease.

INTRODUCTION: Assessment of glucose exposure via glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) has limitations for interpretation in individuals with diabetes and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The glucose management indicator (GMI) derived from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data could be an alternative. However, the concordance between HbA1c measured in laboratory and GMI (HbA1c-GMI) is uncertain in individuals with CKD. The purpose of this study is to analyze this discrepancy. MATERIAL AND METHOD: We performed a multicentric, retrospective, observational study. A group of individuals with diabetes a
