Bilateral Dysplastic Gangliocytoma with Concurrent Polyostotic Fibrous Dysplasia: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: Dysplastic gangliocytoma is a sporadic cerebellar benign tumor with the characteristics of hamartoma and true tumor, also known as Lhermitte-Duclos disease (LDD). Bone fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a slowly progressive self-limited benign bone tissue disease. Cowden syndrome, an autosomal dominant genetic disorder caused by germline mutations in the PTEN gene, is considered to be closely related to dysplastic gangliocytoma. McCune-Albright syndrome is a disease characterized by café-au-lait skin macules, polyostotic FD, and precocious puberty. The etiologic mechanism of both conditions

Concurrence of Adenomyoepithelioma of the Breast and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor of the Stomach: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) of the breast and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare benign (primarily) tumors observed in the breast and gastrointestinal tract, respectively. The coexistence of both of these rare tumors is extremely rare; therefore, the author describes the clinical presentation and pathophysiological findings of such a unique case in this study. A 56-year-old female patient with no medical history presented with a substantial right breast lump, severe nausea, and vomiting, and suffered from iron deficiency anemia. Radiological observation and a right breast excisiona

Goyal-Naqvi Syndrome (Concurrent Trisomy 10p and Terminal 14q Deletion): A Review of the Literature.

Goyal-Naqvi syndrome (GNS) is a newly documented clinical entity that comprises trisomy 10p and terminal 14q deletion, though trisomy 10p and terminal 14q deletion have been discovered as distinct conditions in 1974 and 1997, respectively. Nevertheless, to date, the total number of reported cases of each of these conditions is estimated to be in double digits. Both manifest as a constellation of features like craniofacial dysmorphism, hypotonia, intellectual impairment and global developmental delay. Characteristic facies include protruded forehead, hypertelorism, epicanthic folds, down slanti

Giant cell myositis associated with concurrent myasthenia gravis: a case-based review of the literature.

The term "giant cell myositis" has been used to refer to muscle diseases characterized histologically by multinucleated giant cells. Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune neuromuscular junction disorder. The rare concurrence of giant cell myositis with myasthenia gravis has been reported; however, the clinical and histological features have varied widely. Here, we present such a case and a review of the literature. An 82-year-old woman admitted for subacute, progressive, proximal muscle weakness developed acute-onset dysphagia, dysphonia, and respiratory distress 5 days after admission. Laborator

Concurrent Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia and Hemi-Laryngopharyngeal Spasm (HeLPS): A Case Report and a Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Hemi-laryngopharyngeal spasm (HeLPS) has been recently described but is not yet widely recognized. Patients describe intermittent coughing and choking and can be cured following microvascular decompression of their Xth cranial nerve. This case report and literature review highlight that HeLPS can co-occur with glossopharyngeal neuralgia (GN) and has been previously described (but not recognized) in the neurosurgical literature. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A patient with GN and additional symptoms compatible with HeLPS is presented. The patient reported left-sided, interm

Impact of COVID-19 in patients with concurrent co-infections: A systematic review and meta-analyses.

The burden and impact of secondary superadded infections in critically ill coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients is widely acknowledged. However, there is a dearth of information regarding the impact of COVID-19 in patients with tuberculosis, HIV, chronic hepatitis, and other concurrent infections. This review was conducted to evaluate the consequence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in patients with concurrent co-infections based on the publications reported to date. An extensive comprehensive screening was conducted using electronic databases u

Concurrent bilateral juvenile temporal arteritis and hypereosinophilic syndrome: a case report and review of the literature.

Most of temporal arteritis occurs in the older patient over 50 years old, and the histopathologic finding shows a granulomatous inflammation, so this called giant cell arteritis. However, the young patients also present with a nodular lesion in their temple, and juvenile temporal arteritis (JTA) should be considered as one of the differential diagnosis, although it is very rare. For both diagnosis and treatment of JTA, excisional biopsy is essential. The pathologic finding of the temporal artery shows panarteritis with lymphoeosinophilic infiltrates, but no giant cell or granulomatous lesion.

Psychosis and concurrent impulse control disorder in Parkinson's disease: A review based on a case report.

Psychosis, impulse control disorders (e.g., pathological gambling and hypersexuality) and repetitive behaviors such as punding are known psychiatric complications of Parkinson's disease (PD). Impulsive, compulsive and repetitive behaviors are strongly associated with dopamine-replacement therapy. We present the case of a 58-year-old man with PD and a myriad of psychiatric symptoms. Concurrent psychosis, punding and pathological gambling developed more than six years after the introduction of pramipexole and ceased shortly after the addition of quetiapine and discontinuation of pramipexole. Fibromatosis of the male breast with concurrent florid-type gynecomastia: Report of a case and review of literature.

Fibromatosis is a soft tissue lesion with infiltrative capacity, and is formed of proliferation of fibroblastic and myofibroblastic cells with a significant risk for local recurrence, but no metastatic potential. Fibromatosis is uncommon in the mammary gland, and accounts for less than 0.2% of all primary breast lesions. To the best of our knowledge, it has not been described in the setting of male breast with concurrent florid-type gynecomastia. We report a rare case of a 45-year-old male presenting with a palpable breast mass that was suspicious of carcinoma clinically. Failure of exclusion

Histologically benign intraventricular meningioma with concurrent pulmonary metastasis: case report and review of the literature.

Only 1-2% of all meningiomas are intraventricular in location. Metastasis from a histologically "benign" meningioma is a rare, but well-documented event. However, there are only four reported cases in the literature of metastatic spread from a purely intraventricular meningioma. The tumors in these reports had a frankly malignant histology or were associated with surgical manipulation and recurrence of the primary lesion. In this report, the authors present a rare case of the concurrent presentation of a histologically benign intraventricular meningioma and a solitary lung lesion which proved

Concurrent occurrence of allergic granulomatous angiitis and temporal arteritis: a case report and review of the literature.

Allergic granulomatous angiitis (AGA) is a disease entity that was first distinguished from classical polyarteritis nodosa by Churg and Strauss in 1951, and is characterized by the clinical features of allergic rhinitis or bronchial asthma, eosinophilia, and vasculitis. Allergic granulomatous angiitis has been described to mainly involve small vessels. We herein describe a case of Churg-Strauss syndrome which demonstrated the clinical and laboratory findings supporting a diagnosis of AGA and was also associated with the clinical and pathological findings for temporal arteritis, which was chara

Refractory anaemia with ringed sideroblasts concurrent with multiple myeloma--a brief review of the recent literature.

The report describes a patient in whom myelodysplastic syndrome and multiple myeloma (MM) were simultaneously present. This patient manifested an IgA-lambda type of MM concurrent with a refractory anaemia with ringed sideroblasts (RARS) without prior therapy. His bicytopenia could not be improved by vitamin B6 regardless of a reduced serum vitamin B6 concentration. A review of the literature suggests that myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), chronic neutrophilic leukaemia (CNL) and idiopathic myelofibrosis (IMF) are the most frequent disorders associated with MM. The IgA type seems to be associated

Concurrent Unilateral Temporal Glioma and Contralateral Temporal Arachnoid Cyst: Case Series and Review of Literature.

Arachnoid cysts are benign, congenital, cerebrospinal fluid-filled lesions, most often located in the middle cranial fossa, and usually discovered incidentally. Gliomas, in contrast, are the most common primary brain tumors of glial origin. The coexistence of dual intracranial pathologies is rare, and when reported, typically involves arachnoid cysts associated with other congenital or vascular abnormalities. To date, there are no published reports describing the coexistence of a glioma with a contralateral arachnoid cyst. We present two cases of concurrent unilateral temporal glioma with cont

Multiple pulmonary cavernous haemangiomas with concurrent primary pulmonary adenocarcinoma: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Cavernous haemangiomas (CHs) commonly occurred in the skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscles, and liver. Pulmonary cavernous haemangiomas (PCHs) are quite rare and usually present with nonspecific clinical symptoms. When lung cancer patients are complicated with pulmonary cavernous haemangiomas, radiologically, these haemangioma lesions can be easily misinterpreted as intrapulmonary metastases, potentially resulting in misdiagnosis, or missed diagnosis. CASE PRESENTATION: The present study reported the case of a 53-year-old female patient with pulmonary adenocarcinoma coexisting with
