Mechanistic insights into enhanced congo red biodegradation by a 3D scaffold-assisted biofilm formation by Bacillus tequilensis BS007.

Biofilm-based degradation of toxic Congo red dye has gained importance recently. This study investigated the performance of Nonwoven nylon pads (NWN pads) as a three-dimensional (3D) scaffold for Bacillus tequilensis BS007 biofilm development. The matrix for effective biofilm formation is crucial for successful biodegradation. Biofilm growth was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and quantified using the crystal violet staining assay. The kinetic profile indicates that biofilm began to dissociate after 25 days and was completely disrupted by 40 days. This profile was also conf

Valorization of waste oyster shells via thermal and acid activation for Congo red dye adsorption from aqueous media.

A scalable route to valorize waste oyster shells into an effective adsorbent for Congo red removal is reported. Sequential thermal calcination (500 °C) and H3PO4 activation convert the CaCO3 matrix into Ca-phosphate-rich surfaces (XRD, FTIR) bearing abundant -OH/PO4 groups. Despite a moderate BET area (MOS: 22.15 m2 g-1), the modified oyster shell achieves rapid uptake (>80-90% removal within 10 min; near-complete by 60 min), broad pH tolerance with optimal performance below pHpzc ≈ 8.06, and high capacity (q max = 50.89 mg g-1). Kinetics follow a pseudo-second-order model (R 2 = 0.994; k 2 =

Phosphorus-Doped Cellulose-Derived Carbon Aerogel for Synergistic Adsorption of Congo Red and Cu(II) from Complex Wastewater.

Wastewater produced by dye-related industries commonly contains metal ions, together with organic dyes. Their simultaneous removal is difficult because these pollutants differ in charge, molecular size, and binding behavior. To treat wastewater cocontaminated with copper ions (Cu-(II)) and Congo red (CR), phosphorus-doped carbon aerogel (PCA) was fabricated from sodium carboxymethyl cellulose by sol-gel processing, freeze-drying, and one-step carbonization, with phytic acid serving as the phosphorus source and activator. In the single-component systems, Cu-(II) and CR are retained by PCA throu

Well-design and synthesis of a water- and heat-resistant UiO-67@CNTs composite for Congo red efficient capture.

MOFs (metal-organic frameworks) significantly suffer from water- and heat instable issues, restricting their practical application, such as the capture of hazardous anionic dyes (e.g. Congo red, CR) from water. In the present contribution, a series of novel composites (UiO-67@CNTs) composed of microporous UiO-67 (Zr6O4(OH)4(CO2)12) and mesoporous CNTs (carbon nanotubes) have been innovatively synthesized by an in-situ hydrothermal reaction strategy. This UiO-67@CNT impressively retains structural integrity whether contacted with strong acid, distilled water, and strong alkali conditions even f

Congo red binding phenotype is associated with hemin binding and increased infectivity of Shigella flexneri in the HeLa cell model.

Wild-type isolates of Shigella flexneri bind the dye Congo red from solid media, thus producing red (Crb+) colonies. Mutants which fail to bind the dye produce white colonies (Crb-) and are avirulent in a variety of systems. In S. flexneri the ability to bind Congo red correlates with the ability to bind hemin and protoporphyrin IX. Binding of hemin by Crb+ S. flexneri was observed both in solid media and in liquid assays. Results of competition experiments suggest that Congo red and hemin bind to the same site on the bacterial cell and are retained on the cell surface. Binding of hemin by Crb
