Topical tea tree oil effective in canine localised pruritic dermatitis--a multi-centre randomised double-blind controlled clinical trial in the veterinary practice.

Tea tree oil, a volatile oil, is well known for its broad antibacterial and antifungal activity. A standardised and stabilised 10% tea tree oil cream was tested against a commercial skin care cream (control cream) in the management of canine localised acute and chronic dermatitis. Fifty-seven dogs with clinical manifestations of mostly pruritic skin lesions or alterations, skin fold pyodermas and other forms of dermatitis, corroborated by predominantly positive fungal and bacterial skin isolates, were enrolled by seven practising veterinarians and randomly allocated to two study groups (28:29)

Evaluation of the Efficacy of Topical Ethyl Vanillate in Enhancing the Effect of Narrow Band Ultraviolet B against Vitiligo: A Double Blind Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is an acquired disease of skin that presents with depigmented patches due to lack of melanocytes in the epidermis. Accumulation of toxic free radicals like hydrogen peroxide in the epidermis may be responsible for melanocytes death. Since ethyl vanillate (vanillic acid ethyl ester) is a strong hydrogen peroxide scavenger, it may be effective against vitiligo. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of ethyl vanillate cream on vitiligo patients receiving phototherapy. METHODS: A double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial using ethyl vanillate cream 20% was pe

The effect of 0.1% topical ciclosporin a for 12-weeks on the ocular surface innate and adaptive immune response in dry eye disease: protocol for a randomized controlled clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Ocular surface immune cells and pro-inflammatory cytokines have been reported to be increased in Dry eye disease (DED). Immunosuppressive agents such as topical cyclosporine A (CsA) can inhibit dendritic cell and T cell activation. However, CsA's impact on ocular surface immune responses and tear cytokines has not been systematically studied. This paper describes a clinical trial protocol to investigate the effects of 0.1% CsA plus mineral oil eye drops, versus mineral oil eye drops alone on the ocular surface immune response in DED. METHODS: This two-arm examiner-masked randomize

Topical lidocaine effectively mitigates radial pain, spasm, and sympathetic response following trans-radial coronary angiography: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial.

Radial artery spasm (RAS) remains the most prevalent complication of trans-radial coronary angiography (TRA). Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the impacts of topical lidocaine on radial pain, spasm, and sympathetic response among patients undergoing TRA. We performed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 276 eligible patients for TRA. The patients were 1:1 randomized to receive topical lidocaine gel (2%, 1 g applied to the wrist) or placebo gel 30 min before the angiographic procedure. The incidence of angiographically and clinically diagnosed RAS was recorded, and radi

Can topical epinephrine application to the papilla prevent pancreatitis after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography? Results from a double blind, multicentre, placebo controlled, randomised clinical trial.

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) pancreatitis (PEP) is a complication associated with important morbidity, occasional mortality and high costs. Preventive strategies are suboptimal as PEP continues to affect 4% to 9% of patients. Spraying epinephrine on the papilla may decrease oedema and prevent PEP. This study aimed to compare rectal indomethacin plus epinephrine (EI) versus rectal indomethacin plus sterile water (WI) for the prevention of PEP. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This multicentre randomised controlled trial included patients aged >18 y
