Use of Femtosecond Laser for Cataract Surgery in Patients With Previous Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty and Corneal Scar: A Case Report.

This study describes the outcomes of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) in patients with prior corneal scarring and prior anterior lamellar keratoplasty (ALK). Two male patients, aged 65 and 61 years, presented for cataract surgery with a central corneal scar and previous ALK, respectively. Both underwent standard FLACS to address their cataracts amidst these complex corneal conditions. The procedure successfully achieved a centered 5.0 mm capsulotomy without tags or tears, and the lens was segmented into a sextant pattern and removed without difficulty. No serious intraoperat

[Chinese expert consensus on laser corneal refractive surgery for correction of refractive errors with age-related accommodation deficiency (2021)].

For people receiving laser corneal refractive surgery for refractive errors combined with age-related accommodation deficiency, more attention should be given to avoid wearing reading spectacles prematurely for presbyopia after no spectacles for distant vision are needed. Cautious preoperative screening, personalized and reasonable surgical design and postoperative care should be ensured to achieve satisfactory results. This expert consensus is written by the experts from the Refractive Surgery Group of Chinese Ophthalmologist Association based on the clinical experience and research findings.

Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery in a patient with traumatic cataract and corneal opacity after LASIK: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) has been reported to reduce phacoemulsification time and energy compared to the manual phacoemulsification technique. This technique has been used in several complex cases such as zonular weakness, subluxated lens and traumatic cataracts because it causes less damage to weakened zonules. However, corneal opacity is considered a relative contraindication to FLACS, as it may interfere with laser beam delivery, thus causing unpredictable capsulorhexis and lens fragmentation/liquefaction. CASE PRESENTATION: We present here a case wit

Effect of temperature variation on the corneal endothelial cell during femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery compared with conventional phacoemulsification cataract surgery: A prospective study.

To evaluate whether the corneal endothelium experiences increased temperatures and thermal damage during femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS), we performed comparative in vivo studies. These studies compared FLACS with conventional phacoemulsification cataract surgery (CPS) systems. In this study, 410 eyes with grade II or III nuclear sclerotic cataracts undergoing either CPS (n = 213) or FLACS (n = 197) were examined. All eyes received balanced salt solution at 21°C or 29°C during phacoemulsification. In FLACS, a SoftFit patient interface (PI) was used at 21°C or 29°C. The surf

Effect of Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Versus Conventional Clear Corneal Incisions on Endothelial Cell Density and Surgical Efficiency in Cataract Surgery.

Objectives: To investigate the efficacy of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) with the FEMTO LDV Z8 laser system in comparison to manual conventional cataract surgery (CCS). Background: Preservation of corneal endothelial integrity remains one of the most critical determinants of long-term visual quality after cataract surgery. The introduction of low-energy femtosecond laser systems has raised expectations for safer and more efficient procedures, particularity in cases with denser cataracts. Methods: This is a prospective, randomized study. Here, 38 eyes in the FLACS group an

Corneal deformation mapping and FE-based strain analysis via digital image correlation: Biomechanical changes after CXL and laser refractive surgery.

Accurate assessment of corneal mechanical properties is critical for understanding ocular biomechanics, predicting refractive surgery outcomes, and optimizing cross-linking (CXL) treatments. Conventional uniaxial tensile testing is limited by non-physiological boundary conditions and simplified stress distributions. Inflation testing more closely reproduces the in vivo stress state but has traditionally lacked spatially distributed deformation mapping. In this work, we present an integrated experimental-computational protocol combining inflation testing of freshly enucleated porcine eyes with

Nd:YAG Laser Accidentally Hitting the Corneal Layers During Treatment of Posterior Capsule Opacification After Cataract Surgery and Its Postoperative Process.

Posterior capsule opacification (PCO) is the most common cause of deterioration of vision and contrast sensitivity and glare after cataract surgery. Neodymium (Nd): yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) laser capsulotomy is an effective and standard procedure to treat these symptoms. The incidence rate of PCO requiring Nd:YAG laser treatment varies and depends on published studies, ranging from 2.2% to 10.0%. Although Nd:YAG laser treatment is largely safe, it still has complications, such as transient increase of intraocular pressure, anterior uveitis, intraocular lenses pitting, cystoid macula edema

Effects of taking pregabalin (Lyrica) on the severity of dry eye, corneal sensitivity and pain after laser epithelial keratomileusis surgery.

BACKGROUND: Corneal nerve damage after laser epithelial keratomileusis (LASEK) is thought to be the cause of dry eye and pain. Therefore, we investigated whether taking pregabalin (Lyrica), which reduces peripheral neuropathic pain, alleviates corneal nerve sensitivity after surgery and reduces dry eye and pain. METHODS: Patients were treated with pregabalin (150 mg two times a day for 15 days) from the day before surgery onward and compared with those who did not receive the medications. Before surgery, the severity of dry eye was assessed. Then, corneal sensitivity was assessed by esthesiom
