BACKGROUND: Traditional healers in Ethiopia use a wide range of medicinal plants with antidiarrheal properties. Among these, Croton macrostachyus is one such plant claimed to have an antidiarrheal activity in Ethiopian folklore medicine. BACKGROUND: Malaria is one of the most important tropical diseases and the greatest cause of hospitalization and death. Crotonate, a short-chain fatty acid, generates protein crotonylation. However, the role of crotonate in cancer progression is unknown. Here, we present a crotonate-crotonyl-coenzyme A (CoA)-enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) crotonylation cascade blocking breast cancer growth and metastasis. BACKGROUND: Hemorrhoids are a common recto-anal disorder commonly known as piles or tissue clumps in the rectum. In normal individuals, they were known as anal cushions. In the anus, they are composed of rectal blood vessels, muscles, and elastic fibres. When bulged, it can cause bleeding, constipation, itching, severe pain, and bleeding in the anus. A hemorrhoid model was prepared by means of application of croton oil onto the recto-anus of rats. Cotton swab soaked with the inducer, which consisted of water, pyridine, diethylether and 6% croton oil in diethylether, was inserted into the anus. The following conditions were found to be optimal for preparing the model: cotton swab containing 0.16 ml of the inducer solution was applied to the anus of a 6 week-old rat (body wt. about 140 g) for 10 sec. The edema developed linearly until 7-8 hr after application, and the severity of the edema was sustained almost constantly for more than 24 hr.

This research investigated the effect of the Croton rudolphianus leaf essential oil (EO) on Biomphalaria glabrata embryos (at different development stages) and adults, Schistosoma mansoni cercariae, and Artemia salina (non-target organism).
