Intergenerational cycle of victimization: Parental childhood experiences of violence victimization, parental maltreatment and children's cyberbullying victimization.

BACKGROUND: Most prior research on the cycle of victimization has primarily focused on individual life course trajectories, with limited attention to its intergenerational transmission. Additionally, the mechanisms underlying the relationship between parental experiences of violent victimization in childhood and children's cyberbullying victimization remain underexplored. OBJECTIVE: This study examines the association between parental childhood experiences of violent victimization (PCEVV) and children's cyberbullying victimization (CCV), and investigates whether this association is mediated b

Digital Technology Use and Cyberbullying Among Primary School Children: Digital Literacy and Parental Mediation as Moderators.

Cyberbullying has become a critical issue in many parts of the world. Children affected by bullying in cyberspace may also experience various other problems in their daily lives, such as emotional and behavioral issues. Despite the well-documented positive correlation between digital technology use and cyberbullying experiences in adolescents, a paucity of research has explored the association between digital technology use and cyberbullying, and the extent to which digital literacy (DL) and parental mediation moderate these relationships among primary school-aged children. This study addresse

Cyberbullying victimization and adolescent emotional and conduct problems: Roles of loneliness, emotion dysregulation, and self-esteem.

Cyberbullying victimization (CV) is a significant stressor linked to youth mental health outcomes, including both emotional and conduct problems. While previous studies have identified various mediators including affective, cognitive, and social domains, few studies have simultaneously examined them within an integrated model in a longitudinal design. This study investigates whether loneliness, emotion dysregulation, and self-esteem mediate the association between CV and later emotional and conduct problems. A total of 501 Chinese adolescents aged between 15 and 18 years old (53.3% female; M a

An exploratory study of the prevalence and adverse associations of in-school traditional bullying and cyberbullying among adolescents in Connecticut.

Bullying, traditional or cyber, among adolescents, is a public health concern. In this study, we explored frequencies and correlates of different forms of bullying among Connecticut high-school students. Youth Risk Behavior Survey data from 2019 from Connecticut adolescents (N = 1814) were used. χ2 tests and survey-weighted logistic regressions examined relationships between bullying subgroups (in-school traditional bullying (ISTB) only, cyberbullying only, and both) and mental concerns, risk behaviors, academic performance, physical health, and receipt of social support, with the logistic reg

Moral disengagement, self-control and callous-unemotional traits as predictors of cyberbullying: a moderated mediation model.

BACKGROUND: Cyberbullying has become more prevalent, more difficult to detect, and more harmful to the victims. Whereas considerable prior work has investigated predictors and consequences of cyberbullying, additional research is needed to better understand the mechanisms by which these factors relate to cyberbullying perpetration and victimization. The goal of the present study was to examine the extent to which the link between individual differences in moral disengagement and cyberbullying perpetration is mediated by low self-control and, if so, whether this mediation effect varies by indiv

Longitudinal associations between traditional and cyberbullying victimization and depressive symptoms among young Chinese: A mediation analysis.

BACKGROUND: The impacts of bullying victimization on psychological health are long-lasting. However, the longitudinal mediating processes of the association between being bullied (traditionally and in a cyber context) and depressive symptoms of Chinese youth remain underexplored, including across the sexes. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the longitudinal association between bullying victimization and depressive symptoms, including the mediating effects of physical health, healthy lifestyles, sleep quality, and academic achievements. The Longitudinal Relationship Between Cyberbullying Perpetration and Suicidal Ideation Among Vocational School Adolescents: A Moderated Mediation Model.

BACKGROUND: Although there is extensive evidence linking cyberbullying perpetration to adolescents' suicidal ideation, studies have not yet explored the longitudinal relationship between cyberbullying perpetration and adolescents' suicidal ideation, nor have they elucidated the mechanisms underlying this relationship. To address these gaps, this study employed a three-wave longitudinal design to examine the relationship between cyberbullying perpetration and suicidal ideation among Chinese vocational school adolescents, and the mediating effect of depression and the moderating effect of need t

The role of shyness in cyberbullying perpetration: a moderated mediation model of relative deprivation, anger rumination, and Internet morality.

Although the relationship between shyness and aggression has been well established, whether shyness is associated with cyberbullying perpetration and its underlying mechanisms has been unclear. Guided by the General Aggression Model (GAM), this study proposed that shyness, as a personal trait, is related to cyberbullying perpetration through cognitive and emotional processes. Specifically, we developed a moderated mediation model to examine the mediating roles of relative deprivation and anger rumination, as well as the moderating role of Internet morality, in the relationship between shyness

Differential Effects of Friendship and School Norms on Adolescents' Defending in Cyberbullying Situations: A Randomized School-Based Experiment.

During adolescence, close friendships become increasingly important, yet whether norms within friendship groups may influence responses to cyberbullying more than norms from more distal reference groups such as schools remains untested. This preregistered experiment examined the effects of friendship and school pro-defending norms on adolescents' defending intentions and behaviors in response to hypothetical cyberbullying scenarios. Participants were 321 students from grades 5 to 10 in a German secondary school (55.45% female; Mage = 12.66, SDage = 1.73), randomly assigned to a friendship norm

Combined victimization of face-to-face and cyberbullying and adverse health outcomes among school-age adolescents in Argentina.

Face-to-face bullying victimization (FBV) and cyber bullying victimization (CBV) are of global concern, including in Latin America. The aim of this study was to evaluate the associations between combined FBV and CBV relative to single victimization (FBV or CBV) and no victimization with a wide range of adverse health outcomes among school-aged adolescents from Argentina. National cross-sectional school data from 56,981 adolescents that responded to questions on FBV, CBV, and adverse health outcomes were analyzed. The results showed a prevalence of 18.7% FBV alone, 8.1% CBV alone and 13.6% comb
