Using cytofluorimetry and absorptional cytophotometry, hepatocyte DNA and total protein contents were measured in intact and cirrhotic rats in 1, 3 and 6 months after partial hepatectomy (PH). It has been found that within one month of intact rat liver regeneration the level of hepatocyte ploidy rised by 25% to remain elevated for the next 6 months. The processes of polyploidization in normal human liver parenchyma from 155 individuals aged between 1 day and 92 years were investigated by Feulgen-DNA cytophotometry. It was shown that polyploid hepatocytes appear in individuals from 1 to 5 years old. Using Feulgen-DNA cytophotometry, the nuclear DNA content was determined in specimens from 169 female patients with unilateral primary carcinoma of the breast. The tumors were classified as either diploid (73 cases: 43%) or hyperdiploid (96 cases), according to the ploidy of the tumor cells. A 55-year old female patient on long-term hemodialysis began to suffer from pain in her knees and ankles. An ultrasonographic study showed enlargement of all four parathyroid glands. Cytophotometric DNA determinations on 26 cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma yielded the following findings: 1. Follicular centrocytic/centroblastic lymphomas (M. Brill-Symmers) and diffuse centrocytic lymphomas (lymphocytic lymphosarcoma) have a diploid DNA stem line. The prognostic significance of DNA ploidy measurements in cervical tissues was examined. Microphotometric measurements of 302 Feulgen-stained tissue sections (91 normal squamous epithelia, 14 condylomata, 29 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) I, 78 CIN II, and 90 CIN III) were performed with a personal computer (PC)-based video microphotometry system.
