Follicular dendritic cells are antigen-presenting immune accessory cells of mesenchymal origin. Follicular dendritic cell sarcomas (FDCS) typically occur in nodal and extranodal sites. However, presentation in the extremity has rarely been reported. A woman in her 60s had a painless, slow-growing right posterior thigh swelling, which had been present for 9 months. Imaging revealed a subcutaneous lesion in the posterior aspect of the right mid-thigh. Fine-needle aspiration cytology from the lesion was suggestive of a malignant spindle cell neoplasm, and she underwent its wide local excision. Im

BACKGROUND: Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is a rare tumor derived from follicular dendritic cells (FDC) occurring in lymph nodes and extranodal sites. It is usually regarded as an indolent tumor with a tendency of local recurrence but a low risk of metastasis. Common extranodal sites are liver, lung, tonsil, spleen, soft tissue, and mediastinum. Extranodal FDCS of gastrointestinal tract (GIT) is exceedingly rare, with just 36 cases reported in the literature.
METHODS: We report an unusual case of FDCS of caecum in a 13-year-old boy who presented as intussuception. On histology, it

OBJECTIVE. The objective of this study was to assess the imaging features of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) on CT and MRI. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The clinical data and pretreatment findings of 20 patients with pathologically proven FDCS on CT (n = 15), MRI (n = 7), or both (n = 2) were analyzed retrospectively. Tumor location, number, size, morphology, attenuation or signal intensity, margin, presence of metastases, and contrast enhancement were evaluated. RESULTS. FDCS originated from lymph nodes (n = 6) or a variety of extranodal sites (n = 14). The tumors were typically solitary a

We describe a case of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) of the tonsil in a 59-year-old woman. She was successfully treated with excision of the mass and postoperative radiation therapy. According to our review of the literature, only 25 cases of extranodal FDCS in the head and neck have been previously reported, including only 10 cases that involved a tonsil. We briefly review these earlier reports, and we discuss the diagnosis and management of FDCS.

Follicular dendritic cell (FDC) sarcoma is a rare tumor. Most cases that have been described involve lymph nodes in young adults, but have not been reported in pregnancy. We describe the case of a 20-year-old woman with a FDC sarcoma diagnosed during pregnancy that initially presented as a painful mass in the right axilla. The patient underwent a tumor excision and chemotherapy. The intrapartum course was uncomplicated and she delivered a live female child at 34 weeks. During her postpartum course, she received radiation therapy and chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Follicular dendritic cell (FDC) tumor is a rare tumor derived from accessory cells in the lymphoid follicles. FDC tumors are typically diagnosed on histology based on immunoreactivity to at least 1 of the FDC markers (CD21, CD23 or CD35) or based on the characteristic ultrastructural feature of long, interwoven, cytoplasmic, dendritic processes connected by desmosomes.
CASE: We observed novel cytologic features of FDC sarcoma in a liver fine needle aspirate of a 46-year-old man status post surgery and chemotherapy for FDC sarcoma, originating in the gastrointestinal tract with met

AIMS: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive inflammatory follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (EBV+ IFDCS) is a rare, indolent malignant neoplasm. Due to its rarity, a comprehensive assessment of its immunophenotypic spectrum and molecular analysis is still lacking. This study aimed to characterize the immunophenotypic and genetic alterations of EBV+ IFDCS to improve understanding of its cell of origin and molecular pathogenesis and to identify potential therapeutic targets.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Immunohistochemical staining for a panel of follicular dendritic cell (FDC) and fibroblastic reticular ce

Follicular dentritic cell sarcomatous neoplasms originate from dendritic cells contained within the lymph nodes. In extranodal location, these neoplasms, are rare clinical entities, and even more so, their location in the head-neck region is extremely rare. Only 17 cases of primary dendritic cell sarcoma of the tonsil are reported in the literature at present. Being such a rare entity, histopathological diagnosis can be complex and requires great expertise and proper immunohistochemical analysis [1]. We present a case of a 48-year-old young man diagnosed with follicular dendritic cell sarcoma

INTRODUCTION: Follicular Dendritic Cell Sarcomas (FDCS)was first found in 1986; the specificity of the disease is its rarity, with an incidence of only 0.4%, numerous doctors for its lack of understanding, the accuracy of imaging diagnosis is not great, which is easy to delay the treatment. This article summarizes several characteristic imaging manifestations of FDCS to provide imaging physicians with an understanding of the imaging properties of this rare disease. When faced with complex cases, the radiologist can consider this disease and include it in the differential diagnosis. FDCS occurs

Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is a rare low-intermediate grade malignant neoplasm. To date, published data on FDCS clinical courses are sparse, and no conditional survival study has been performed. Thus, we retrospectively analyzed 187 patients diagnosed with FDCS from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. In this study, the median age at diagnosis was 50 years and 91 (48.7%) patients were male. The most common primary location was the abdomen/pelvis (82, 43.9%). The 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year overall survival (OS) were 88.7%, 69.0%, and 59.8%, respectivel

Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is an uncommon neoplasm derived from FDCs in lymphoid tissue. Metastatic FDCS to the liver is rare. We present a case of a 65-yr-old woman who was referred to our institution 1 mo after splenectomy for FDCS of the spleen. An abdominal CT scan revealed a 2.0-cm liver lesion, which led to fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy. Smears of the aspiration obtained were hypercellular showing a pleomorphic population of large oval to spindle-shaped tumor cells against a background of small mature lymphocytes, plasma cells, and necrotic debris. Tumor cells were ar

BACKGROUND: Epstein-Barr virus-positive (EBV+) inflammatory follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (IFDCS) is a rare stroma-derived neoplasm of lymphoid tissues. It typically involves the spleen and liver, and is often associated with the presence of EBV. Because of its nonspecific clinical and imaging findings, making a correct diagnosis at the time of initial diagnosis is challenging. Therefore, we report this misdiagnosis case in order to help decrease the rate of making wrong diagnoses in the future.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We report a case of 71-year-old woman in whom a splenic space-occupying lesi

Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is an extremely rare tumor, which mainly originates from FDCs in the lymph nodes. Sometimes FDCS can arise from outside the lymph nodes due to the existence of acquired lymphoid tissue, which becomes the histological basis of the tumor. The diagnosis of FDCS, particularly extranodal FDCS, presents a challenge for pathologists and hematopathologists. The present study presents two cases of extranodal FDCS based on clinical features and histomorphology. Soft tissue of the chest wall was involved in case 1 and right tonsil tissue in case 2. Case 1 underwen

INTRODUCTION: Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is an uncommon tumor that usually arises in lymph nodes, especially in the cervical, mediastinal, or axillary areas, but rarely in extranodal sites. Few cases have been reported in English literature so far. The scarcity may be partially due to under-recognition of this entity. Through this case report we analyzed the difficulties of clinical and pathological diagnosis of this rare tumor with its unusual location mistaken it with gynecological cancer's iliac lymph nodes metastases. We also discussed its systemic treatment options.

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a common type of nodal peripheral T-cell lymphoma, which always presents with extensive follicular dendritic cell (FDC) meshwork. Here, we report a case of AITL combined with extensive spindle cell meshwork. Spindle cells occupied were positive for the FDC markers CD21, CD23, and CD35. Furthermore, some cells were positive for desmin and smooth muscle actin (SMA), suggesting the differentiation of fibroblastic reticular cell (FRC). Interestingly, the proliferation of spindle cells was so extensive that was easily misdiagnosed as FDC sarcoma (FDCS).

Follicular dendritic cell (FDC) sarcoma is a very rare neoplasm showing morphologic and phenotypic features of FDCs. It occurs primarily in lymph nodes but also in extranodal sites. So far, there have been no reports on FDC sarcoma associated with myasthenia gravis. In the following we will present a case of an FDC tumor of the mediastinum associated with paraneoplastic myasthenia gravis in a 39-year-old man. The tumor contained a major proportion of immature T cells, which may be connected to this patient's very unusual clinical presentation with autoimmune phenomena. Extranodal FDC sarcomas
