A guide to temporal fossa augmentation with small gel particle hyaluronic acid dermal filler.

Loss of volume in the temple can result in a gaunt, wasted appearance. Dermal filler augmentation of the temples can counteract volume loss and achieve a more balanced and youthful appearance. Although the temporal fossa is a critical area for volume restoration of the aging face, published information is limited. The authors retrospectively describe the treatment of 20 female patients who sought facial rejuvenation and received small gel particle hyaluronic acid (SPG-HA) injections for temporal fossa augmentation. The authors discuss a rationale for their choice of dermal filler and provide a

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in the Management of Dermal Filler-Induced Vascular Occlusion: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been used in ischemic and inflammatory conditions due to its ability to enhance tissue oxygenation and support wound healing. Filler-induced vascular occlusion (FIVO) is a rare but potentially devastating complication of dermal filler injections that may result in skin necrosis or vision loss. HBOT has been increasingly reported as an adjunctive intervention in FIVO, but its reported use has not been systematically summarized. OBJECTIVE: To summarize the existing literature on HBOT use in FIVO, describe reported clinical contexts and treatment

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Filler-Associated Vascular Occlusion-A Review of Prevention and Management Strategies.

BACKGROUND: Significant complications are uncommon with aesthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers, but inadvertent injection of dermal filler into an artery can result in tissue damage, scarring, visual loss, and even stroke. Practitioners must therefore reduce this risk through proactive, preventative techniques. Early recognition of vascular occlusion (VO) is also crucial to minimize subsequent tissue injury. AIMS: To review and summarize evidence-based preventative measures and first aid management strategies for HA-associated peripheral cutaneous VO, explicitly excluding ocular and ne

Dermal filler complications from unknown biomaterials: identification by attenuated total reflectance spectroscopy.

BACKGROUND: In the last decade, an increase in complications related to dermal filler injections has been reported, especially in patients who underwent multiple treatments with different products. Imaging or histological examinations may suggest what kind of substance was used, but none can precisely identify the biomaterial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, using an attenuated total reflectance cell, in the identification of unknown dermal fillers. METHODS: In the preclinical study, samples from different manufacturers were analyzed a

A Case Report on Use of Cog Threads and Dermal Fillers for Facial-Lifting in Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy.

Long-standing facial paralysis induces degenerative facial muscle changes on the involved side, thus making the individual seem older than their actual age. Furthermore, contralateral facial hypertrophy aggravates facial asymmetry (Sulamanidze MA, Fournier PF, Paikidze TG, Sulamanidze GM. Removal of facial soft tissue ptosis with special threads. Dermatol Surg 2002;28:367-71). The introduction of absorbable barbed thread has proved to be a good alternative for treating facial asymmetry. It also allows the association with other nonsurgical procedures, such as botulinum toxin use and/or dermal

Challenges with Conventional Dermal Filler Guidelines: Considering Multi-Axes Facial Rotation Asymmetry Patterns.

Facial asymmetry is inherent from birth, and it becomes more pronounced with age due to changes in the facial skeleton at various rates and locations. As new insights into "multi-axes facial rotation" patterns emerge, there is a pressing need to update the standards for facial assessment, consultation, and treatment to align with modern aesthetic practices. Traditional methods like MD Codes™ and BeautiPHIcation™, which focus on enhancing specific features or applying mathematical beauty principles, may not adequately address overall facial balance and may neglect the underlying skeletal asymme
