Enhancing node influence prediction in large networks via multi-Level knowledge distillation.

Predicting the influence power of nodes in complex networks, particularly in large-scale scenarios, is a fundamental and challenging problem in network analysis. However, labeling nodes based on their influence power requires running computationally intensive models, such as the Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR) model, which becomes prohibitively time-consuming in large networks, severely limiting scalability. To address this limitation, this study proposes an innovative approach based on multi-level knowledge distillation aimed at enhancing prediction accuracy while substantially reducing

Knowledge Distillation Guided Interpretable Brain Subgraph Neural Networks for Brain Disorder Exploration.

The human brain is a highly complex neurological system that has been the subject of continuous exploration by scientists. With the help of modern neuroimaging techniques, there has been significant progress made in brain disorder analysis. There is an increasing interest about utilizing artificial intelligence techniques to improve the efficiency of disorder diagnosis in recent years. However, these methods rely only on neuroimaging data for disorder diagnosis and do not explore the pathogenic mechanism behind the disorder or provide an interpretable result toward the diagnosis decision. Vision-Based Assistance for Vocal Fold Identification in Laryngoscopy with Knowledge Distillation.

Laryngoscopy images play a vital role in merging computer vision and otorhinolaryngology research. However, limited studies offer laryngeal datasets for comparative evaluation. Hence, this study introduces a novel dataset focusing on vocal fold images. Additionally, we propose a lightweight network utilizing knowledge distillation, with our student model achieving around 98.4% accuracy-comparable to the original EfficientNetB1 while reducing model weights by up to 88%. We also present an AI-assisted smartphone solution, enabling a portable and intelligent laryngoscopy system that aids laryngos

Automated detection of cerebral microbleeds on MR images using knowledge distillation framework.

INTRODUCTION: Cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) are associated with white matter damage, and various neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases. CMBs occur as small, circular hypointense lesions on T2*-weighted gradient recalled echo (GRE) and susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) images, and hyperintense on quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) images due to their paramagnetic nature. Accurate automated detection of CMBs would help to determine quantitative imaging biomarkers (e.g., CMB count) on large datasets. In this work, we propose a fully automated, deep learning-based, 3-step algorit

Biodiesel production from integration between reaction and separation system: reactive distillation process.

Biodiesel is a clean burning fuel derived from a renewable feedstock such as vegetable oil or animal fat. It is biodegradable, non-inflammable, non-toxic, and produces lesser carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and unburned hydrocarbons than petroleum-based fuel. The purpose of the present work is to present an efficient process using reactive distillation columns applied to biodiesel production. Reactive distillation is the simultaneous implementation of reaction and separation within a single unit of column. Nowadays, it is appropriately called "Intensified Process". This combined operation is

Annotation-efficient weed detection using DINOv3-distilled YOLOv12.

Weed pressure causes global crop yield losses of 10-34%, while the deployment of deep learning-based weed detection systems at scale remains constrained by the high cost of bounding-box annotation across diverse field environments. This study addresses this annotation bottleneck in precision agriculture by proposing WEEDINO-YOLOv12, a label-efficient weed detection framework that transfers global-average-pooled feature distributions from a frozen DINOv3 ViT-B/16 teacher into a lightweight YOLOv12n backbone through feature-distribution distillation on unlabeled agricultural imagery, followed by

Effects of camel thorn distillate on recurrent oral aphthous lesions.

BACKGROUND: Near 20 % of people suffer from recurrent oral aphthous ulcers. These painful ulcers are found on the oral mucosa. We conducted this study to evaluate the effect of the camel thorn distillate on this condition. PATIENTS AND METHODS: 93 patients with recurrent aphthous ulcers were selected and divided into two groups. One group was given a placebo (n = 44) and the other was given camel thorn distillate (n = 49). The diameter of the lesions and the severity of the pain were measured 3, 5, 7, 10 and 14 days after initiation of therapy. The lesion diameters and pain scores of the two

The use of distilled water in the achievement of local hemostasis during surgery.

Distilled water is used worldwide to check on hemostasis at the end of pelvic oncological operations. Nevertheless, reports about this method are lacking. The aim of this study was to explain the method and to discuss possible side effects. After the addition of distilled water to the surgically exposed pelvis, rapid lysis of erythrocytes results in a transparent fluid in which a small source of bleeding is easily recognizable. A possible side effect of the lavage might be contribution to the formation of peritoneal adhesions by confusing the abdominal defence system. Systemic side effects are

Safety of distilled water as an irrigating fluid for transurethral resection of the prostate.

BACKGROUND: Irrigating fluid is necessary for transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Initially, distilled water was used as irrigating fluid and some advantages and complications were noted. Although other solutions were used to substitute for distilled water, we collected data for changes in electrolytes and hematocrit (Hct) during surgery to evaluate the safety of distilled water as irrigating fluid for TURP with suprapubic trocar cystostomy. METHODS: Fifty-three patients who underwent TURP using distilled water as irrigating fluid were investigated. TURP was performed with suprapu

A selective separation of alcoholic beverages and distilled wines by gas chromatography.

The MFE-Vinicol column (Análisis Vínicos; Spain) was developed for the analysis of alcoholic beverages. Fusel alcohols at low concentrations, including 2-propanol, methanol, ethyl acetate, and ethyl butyrate, are determined by a single temperature-programmed analysis using this column. This column has important advantages over the official columns recommended by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists and other official methods for this kind of analysis.

Distilling the Neurophenomenological Signatures of Pure Awareness during Transcendental Meditation.

Pure awareness (PA) has been proposed as a form of minimal phenomenal experience, but its neurophenomenological signatures remain poorly characterized. Transcendental meditation (TM) offers a particularly tractable empirical model of PA because its procedure is standardized, its induction is effortless, and it reliably elicits reports of awareness with minimal content. We combined electroencephalography with temporal experience tracing in 33 experienced TM practitioners and their matched controls (performing mental counting). TM practitioners reported significantly greater intensity and tempor

The Development and Characterization of a Novel Prickly Pear-Grape Distilled Spirit.

A novel distilled alcoholic beverage was produced by fermenting yellow and red prickly pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) fruits with two Cypriot grape varieties (Mavro and Xynisteri), followed by traditional distillation. Two spirit variants (45% and 59% v/v alcohol) were prepared and assessed for physicochemical properties, antioxidant capacity, methanol, phenolic and flavonoid content, mineral composition, volatile profile, and sensory characteristics. Both spirits exhibited a pH of 3.83, total titratable acidity of 0.113% (expressed as citric acid), and methanol content between 0.38-1.85 g/hL of

Distillers' grains as alternative feed resources for beef cattle: review.

Distillers' grains (DG), including wet, dried, and dried with solubles, are valuable co-products for beef cattle feeding due to their high digestible energy, rumen-undegradable protein, and functional fiber content. This review integrates current knowledge of the nutritional, productive, environmental, and economic implications of DG use in feedlot systems across temperate and tropical regions. At moderate inclusion levels (15%-30% of dietary dry matter), DG consistently enhances feed efficiency and reduces feeding costs without compromising growth performance or carcass traits. Their low star

Toxicology of selected pesticides, drugs, and chemicals. Petroleum distillates and turpentine.

Companion animal exposures to volatile hydrocarbons and turpentine accounted for 2% of all calls received by the IAPIC in 1987. Volatile hydrocarbons are also used as vehicle solvents (e.g., pesticides), and both vehicle and active ingredients pose a significant hazard to companion animals. The most significant clinical effects of the hydrocarbons are related to aspiration pneumonia. The likelihood of aspiration is generally related to the compound's viscosity, with more volatile and most widely available compounds posing the greatest risk. Treatment generally is conservative. Hybrid Dual-Heterogeneous Knowledge Distillation Network for Anomaly Detection in Retinal OCT Images.

Unsupervised medical anomaly detection aims to identify abnormal images by training exclusively on normal samples, thereby enabling the detection of disease-related irregularities without the need for large-scale labeled datasets. Current knowledge distillation-based methods typically detect anomalies by comparing feature discrepancies between teacher and student networks. However, because these methods employ an optimization strategy where the teacher and student architectures are highly similar, the student network's features tend to closely mirror those of the teacher, leading to an identit

NeuroPlast: a learnable activation function evaluated under knowledge distillation for medical image classification.

Deep neural networks for medical image classification rely almost exclusively on fixed activation functions such as ReLU. We introduce NeuroPlast, a parametric activation function whose four differentiable components (a shifted sigmoid modeling NMDA-type voltage gating, a Gaussian plateau inspired by AMPA receptor scaling, an excitatory rectifier, and an inhibitory leak) are combined through six learnable parameters. Two mixing strategies are evaluated: a static variant with fixed learned weights, and a metaplastic variant whose mixing coefficients adapt per sample via a lightweight squeeze-ex

Transformable Quadruped Wheelchair: Unified Walking and Wheeled Locomotion via Mode-Conditioned Policy Distillation.

In recent years, while progress has been made in barrier-free design, the complete elimination of physical barriers such as uneven road surfaces and stairs remains difficult, and wheelchair passengers continue to face significant mobility constraints. This study aims to verify the effectiveness of a transformable quadruped wheelchair that can switch between two modes of movement: walking and wheeled travel. Specifically, reinforcement learning using Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) was used to acquire walking strategies for uneven terrain and wheeled travel strategies for flat terrain. NVIDI

Hierarchical Self-Distillation with Attention for Class-Imbalanced Acoustic Event Classification in Elevators.

Acoustic-based anomaly detection in elevators is crucial for predictive maintenance and operational safety, yet it faces significant challenges in real-world settings, including pervasive multi-source acoustic interference within confined spaces and severe class imbalance in collected data, which critically degrades the detection performance for minority yet critical acoustic events. To address these issues, this study proposes a novel hierarchical self-distillation framework. The method embeds auxiliary classifiers into the intermediate layers of a backbone network, creating a deep teacher-sh

Marine Saliency Segmenter: Object-Focused Conditional Diffusion With Region-Level Semantic Knowledge Distillation.

Marine Saliency Segmentation (MSS) plays a pivotal role in a wide range of vision-based marine exploration tasks. However, existing techniques often face the dilemma of imprecise boundaries due to the interference-rich nature of underwater environments, where suspended particles, low contrast, and color distortion hinder accurate segmentation. Although diffusion models have shown impressive performance in visual tasks, their potential to incorporate contextual semantics for enhancing feature learning of region-level salient objects remains underexplored, thereby hindering segmentation outcomes
