Radiation recall dermatitis is characterized by an inflammatory reaction within a previously irradiated volume after administration of a drug. Antineoplastic drugs have mainly been involved in radiation recall reactions. This phenomenon is well known but poorly understood. Many hypotheses as stem-cell depletion in the radiotherapy field, heritable mutations within surviving stem cells, local vascular changes as well as a drug hypersensitivity reaction have been proposed to explain these reactions. In this report, we describe a non-small cell lung cancer patient treated with a carboplatin plus

Ranitidine is a medication that has been used to alleviate heartburn and other disorders for over 40 years. Following reports of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) contamination in ranitidine products, there have been many recalls and registration suspensions. Here, we revise the literature information confirming ranitidine association with NDMA. Then, we highlight the documented mechanisms for NDMA release from ranitidine. In addition, the stability issue for this medicine is discussed. After that, we review and discuss the results of the United States Food and Drug Administration and the Australi

OBJECTIVE: Providing adequate information to the patients about their drugs is an essential principle of rational pharmacotherapy. This study investigates the knowledge of general practice patients about their drugs, since the level of knowledge of the patient about the medication is highly associated with the outcome of the therapy.
METHODS: A total of 1618 patients who applied to primary healthcare centers in Istanbul and accepted to participate in the study were asked about the name(s) and effect(s) of the drug(s) on their prescriptions. Factors that might influence the background knowledg

INTRODUCTION: Radiation recall dermatitis is an uncommon inflammatory reaction of the skin appearing after several days to several years at the site of previous irradiation; it is precipitated by the use of triggering drugs, although rarely by BRAF or MEK inhibitors.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We report an unusual case of recall dermatitis induced 3 months after initiation of vemurafenib and cobimetinib therapy.
DISCUSSION: Radiation recall dermatitis is a cutaneous reaction that must be known and which in rare cases such as ours may occur a long time after the end of radiotherapy.

The potential for recall bias in case-control studies is a common concern. The authors assessed whether recall bias was present in exposure information reported at postpartum interview by mothers of malformed and nonmalformed infants who delivered at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, during 1984. Accuracy of exposure reporting was measured by comparing interview data with exposure information documented during pregnancy in obstetric records. The authors' measure of recall bias, relative sensitivity (RS), is the ratio of exposure-reporting accuracy for mothers of malformed infants to that o

Radiation recall refers to inflammatory reactions triggered by chemotherapeutic agents and develops cutaneously in the previously irradiated areas. Such agents include anthracyclines, taxanes and capecitabine. Radiation recall related to gemcitabine has been reported in lung and breast cancer. Similar phenomenon associated with gemcitabine, the only FDA-approved drug for pancreatic cancer, is rarely reported. We report a patient with inoperable pancreatic cancer who developed gastrointestinal bleeding secondary to radiation-recall related to gemcitabine and review literature. A 57-year-old whi

Radiation recall is a rare phenomenon in which inflammation ensues on a previously irradiated tissue after the administration of a precipitating systemic agent. This reaction may appear anytime between weeks to years after radiotherapy, and it can be caused by a variety of drugs (mainly cytotoxic agents). Skin is the most commonly involved organ and despite the poor insight regarding the pathophysiology of this phenomenon, many case reports have been published on radiation recall dermatitis. In one third of cases, however, radiation recall occurs within internal organs or subcutaneous tissues.

Phototherapy recall can occur unexpectedly as a result of treatment with commonly used medications and chemotherapy. These reactions are rare. The recall reaction is an inflammatory response that is triggered by many medications. Cyclophosphamide and docetaxel are widely used chemotherapeutic agents that are useful in the management of many different malignancies. The pathophysiology of phototherapy recall is not clearly understood. This case highlights the need for practitioners to be aware of this potential reaction, even though UV exposure may have occurred in the distant past. We present,

BACKGROUND: This study aims to evaluate the agreement in substance use on both binary and ordinal scales between 3-month and 6-month recall periods with samples from different communities, demographic backgrounds, and HIV status.
METHODS: We administered the Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) to 799 participants from three different North American cohorts focused on substance use and HIV. We conducted a within-person agreement analysis by calculating the agreement levels and Kappa statistic between data collected using the 3-month recall ASSIST and 6-month cust

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are the mainstay of treatment for many gastric acid-related diseases with a relatively safe drug profile. One of the rare side effects is PPI-induced bullous pemphigoid. We describe a case of new-onset bullous pemphigoid on initiation of lansoprazole for esophagitis after a nationwide Zantac recall. This condition can improve with the cessation of PPI and the use of corticosteroids. However, it poses a significant challenge to the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease by limiting available pharmacologic options. In addition, this case highlights the negati

OBJECTIVE: This randomized controlled trial aimed to determine whether an interactive CD-ROM improved cancer patients' recall of chemotherapy treatment information over standard written information, and whether demographic, cognitive, and psychological factors better predicted recall than this format of delivery.
METHODS: One-hundred-and-one new patients about to commence chemotherapy were randomized to receive written information or a CD-ROM containing treatment information before giving informed consent. Patients' recall, concentration, short-term memory, reading comprehension, anxiety, dep

Drug craving triggered by cues that were once associated with drug intoxication is a major contributor to continued drug-seeking behaviors. Addictive drugs engage molecular pathways of associative learning and memory. Reactivated memories are vulnerable to disruption by interference with the process of reconsolidation, hence targeting reconsolidation could be a strategy to reduce cue-induced drug craving and relapse. Here we examined the circuitry of cocaine contextual memory reconsolidation and explored neuroplasticity following memory reactivation. Mice underwent chemogenetic inhibition of e

In human addicts, craving and relapse are frequently evoked by the recall of memories connected to a drug experience. Established memories can become labile if recalled and can then be disrupted by several interfering events and pharmacological treatments, including inhibition of protein synthesis. Thus, reactivation of mnemonic traces provides an opportunity for disrupting memories that contribute to pathological states. Here, we tested whether the memory of a drug experience can be weakened by inhibiting protein synthesis after the reactivation of its trace. We found that an established morp

Anaesthetic practice is the only clinical context in which amnesia is a valued property of benzodiazepine drugs, since decreased recall considerably enhances patient tolerance and acceptance or surgical and diagnostic procedures. Research on the amnesic effects of diazepam, midazolam, lorazepam and flunitrazepam, administered via oral, i.v. or i.m. routes to patients undergoing surgical or diagnostic procedures is reviewed. The degree of anterograde amnesia is a function of the drug, the route of administration and the population of patients being assessed. Retrograde amnesia has not been conc

BACKGROUND: Recall phenomena of the skin at the site of prior radiation treatment are well established after systemic anti-neoplastic therapy. The aim of this report is to describe a rare clinical entity of recall dermatitis after systemic treatment with paclitaxel without a history of previous radiation at the site of reaction.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A 63-year-old Caucasian female patient treated with paclitaxel because of breast cancer (T3 N1 M0) is presented.
RESULTS: Five days after the fifth-in-a-row infusion swelling and redness occurred on the left arm, where the drug has been administ

This case report documents a UV-light-induced recall phenomenon and reviews the medical literature. In this patient, we observed a severe recall phenomenon precipitated by an extensive sunlight exposure after a chemoradiotherapy organ preservation protocol. Radiation recall phenomenon is a rare but well-described phenomenon, without clear radiation or drug-specific characteristics. In the medical literature, radiation recall following UV-sunlight exposure seems to be an exceptional event. The etiology remains unknown but could involve local hypersensitivity through a non-immune activation of i

A case of dermatitis and myositis in the upper thorax following administration of gemcitabine in a 65-year-old woman with metastatic non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is described. The reaction and time course suggest a radiation recall phenomenon. This report joins a small but increasing number of radiation recall events related to gemcitabine. The possibility of a radiation recall reaction should be borne in mind when a patient develops symptoms in a previously irradiated site without evidence of disease progression at that site. Cessation of the precipitating drug is the most important ste

Effects of alertness and memory of a single dose of diazepam (10 mg) and the central stimulant methylphenidate (20 mg) were studied in healthy volunteers. It was questioned whether opposite effects of diazepam and methylphenidate are not only observed with respect to alertness but also with respect to memory. It was also questioned whether the two drugs equally affect the first (primacy) and last (recency) items in both the immediate and delayed recall of newly learned words. The experiment was performed in a double-blind, placebo-controlled way. 12 subjects were exposed to a subjective alertn
