An elderly female patient with a long-standing history of Kaposi's sarcoma of the lower limbs was referred to the Surgical Department after the subsequential failure of multiple lines of systemic chemotherapy. The patient was also complaining of increasing symptoms including intractable pruritus, which negatively impacted her quality of life. She underwent palliative electrochemotherapy with bleomycin (15 g/m 2 ) on the sarcomatous lesions of the left foot and ankle, which lead to complete clinical response and resolution of symptoms; no adverse events were reported. Electrochemotherapy is a v

The treatment of microcystic and combined lymphangiomas, especially in the head and neck region, is still a challenge because the lymphangiomas do not respond to conventional therapies and their recurrence rate is high, regardless of the treatment choice. Complete surgical resection is the main treatment of lymphangiomas, but because of localization perioperative complications, such as bleeding, neural damage and airway obstruction are common disadvantages of this method. Bleomycin-based sclerotherapy is another common therapeutic approach, in which the lymphocysts are aspirated, and 25% to 50

Electrochemotherapy is now in routine clinical use to treat cutaneous metastases of any histology, and is listed in national and international guidelines for cutaneous metastases and primary skin cancer. Electrochemotherapy is used by dermatologists, surgeons, and oncologists, and for different degrees and manifestations of metastases to skin and primary skin tumours not amenable to surgery. This treatment utilises electric pulses to permeabilize cell membranes in tumours, thus allowing a dramatic increase of the cytotoxicity of anti-cancer agents. Response rates, often after only one treatmen

Electroporation is used to enhance drug diffusion and gene delivery into the cytosol. The combination of electroporation and cytotoxic drugs, electrochemotherapy (ECT), is used to treat metastatic tumor nodules located at the skin and subcutaneous tissue. The objective response rate following a single session of treatment exceeds 80%, with minimal toxicity for the patients. The efficacy of ECT in the bone and visceral metastasis is currently investigated, and Phase II studies have been completed. ECT has been used to treat skin primary tumors, except melanoma, and is under investigation for lo

A metastasis of hypernephroma was treated by electrochemotherapy with bleomycin. Electrochemotherapy consists of chemotherapy followed by local application of electric pulses to the tumor in order to increase drug delivery to the cells. In the course of a four-week treatment period, the subcutaneous metastasis of the hypernephroma was treated with three sessions of electrochemotherapy, each consisting of 9-10 runs of 8 electric pulses, 10 min after intravenous injection of bleomycin. This treatment resulted in stabilization of the tumor volume for 12 months, whereas the subcutaneous metastasis

Feline extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is an uncommon plasma cell neoplasm typically regarded as biologically benign; however, its clinical behaviour may be heterogeneous. This case report describes an aggressive gingival EMP in a 14-year-old neutered male Turkish Angora cat, characterised by alveolar bone lysis and cytologically confirmed regional lymph node metastasis in the absence of systemic features consistent with multiple myeloma. Histopathological examination revealed an infiltrative round cell neoplasm with high mitotic index, and strong diffuse MUM-1 immunoreactivity confirmed the

BACKGROUND: Bleomycin electrosclerotherapy (BEST) is an emerging treatment option for vascular malformations (VMs), predominantly slow-flow venous malformations, with increasing use in other types of VMs. By combining application of bleomycin with electroporation, BEST enhances intracellular drug delivery and may improve treatment efficacy while allowing the use of lower drug doses. Although clinical evidence supporting its efficacy is growing, the biological mechanisms underlying these effects remain poorly understood. Key unresolved questions include endothelial responses to BEST, what are t

The main treatment of MM metastases are systemic therapies, surgery, limb perfusion, and intralesional talimogene laherparepvec. Electrochemotherapy (ECT) is potentially useful also due to the high response rates recorded in cancers of any histology. No randomized studies comparing ECT with other local therapies have been published on this topic. We analyzed the available evidence on efficacy and toxicity of ECT in this setting. PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane databases were screened for paper about ECT on MM skin metastases. Data about tumor response, mainly in terms of overall response rate (OR

Plasma cell tumors can occur as solitary collections referred as extramedullary plasmocytoma (EMP). The present report describes four cases of EMP treated with a local nonthermal ablative approach. Four dogs were diagnosed with extramedullary plasmocytomas (EMP) in different body regions (oral cavity, digits, and lip). Since surgical excision was declined by the owners (maxillectomy; amputation or lip reconstruction), a curative-intent approach was indicated as solely treatment- electrochemotherapy (ECT). All the patients received ECT under general anesthesia using bleomycin intravenously (15,

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate and confirm the efficacy and safety of electrochemotherapy (ECT) using bleomicyn in a large series of non-melanoma head and neck cancers.
BACKGROUND: ECT combines chemotherapy and electroporation to increase drug uptake into cancer cells. ECT has proven to be effective in the treatment of tumor nodules of cutaneous and subcutaneous localization. Up to now, this therapy has been mainly used as a local control of melanoma skin metastasis. Few studies have focused on its role in the treatment of head and neck cutaneous and subcutaneous cancers.
METHODS: Twenty-five patien

AIM: Electrochemotherapy (ECT) combines chemotherapy with an electric pulse to directly target tumor cells by increasing cell membrane permeability, facilitating the efficient uptake of chemotherapeutic agents by tumor cells and improving their therapeutic efficacy. It is widely used for treating skin metastatic nodules or metastases of subcutaneous tissue. Therefore, the aim of this study is to report the experience regarding the use of ECT in a tertiary referral hospital and explore its safety and efficacy in treating skin cancer.
METHODS: This study included 97 skin cancer patients treated

BACKGROUND: Sinonasal Mucosal Melanoma (SNMM) is a rare but aggressive disease. Surgery with free margins, when feasible, is the treatment of choice. In the last three decades, electrochemotherapy (ECT) has emerged as a local ablative procedure, performed with the Cliniporator, for cutaneous and mucosal tumours of different histology. We present a case report of an ECT treatment performed by means of a new endoscopic electrode, on an elderly patient affected by primary SNMM.
METHODS: An 88-year-old man with a diagnosis of SNMM (cT4aN0M0)-Stage IV, of the left nasal fossa presented at our inst

BACKGROUND: Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are common human malignancies with a rising incidence in recent years. While BCCs have a low mortality rate, they are often associated with significant local skin damage characterized by erythema, skin ulceration, and persistent pigmentation. Surgery, radiotherapy, and systemic chemotherapy have traditionally been the principal treatments for these skin injuries. However, electrochemotherapy has recently been proposed as a novel local treatment with promising results for various skin cancers, including BCC, while avoiding the side effects of conventiona

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer is responsible for more than 50% of cutaneous metastases. One of the treatment options is electrochemotherapy (ECT). It is an effective method of local tumor ablation through the application of electroporation. The primary objective of the study was to demonstrate a response to the treatment in our group of patients.
METHODS: Between February 2015 and October 2016, in 3 centers in Poland, 47 ECT procedures were performed in 38 patients with metastasis of breast cancer to the skin.
RESULTS: At 12 weeks after the procedures, 71% of patients showed a positive respons
