Uterine lavage is presented as a way to perform aneuploidy screening without IVF. The feasibility of this method was tested in a research study. This study combined a number of highly contentious ethical issues: the creation of embryos for research (very early), abortion and (moderate) payments to research participants. It is concluded that the study largely fulfils the criteria of ethical research but that the researchers should have avoided a number of steps. These steps were the inclusion of infertility patients, the performance of the research in a middle-income country and the double dest

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This article reviews recent literature on the impact of pregnancy loss in an embryo transfer on subsequent reproductive outcomes within assisted reproduction.
RECENT FINDINGS: Research supports that across fresh or frozen transfers with untested blastocysts, patients with a first biochemical or clinical pregnancy loss have a similar or decreased risk of pregnancy loss, and similar or improved pregnancy and live birth rates, compared to those with an implantation failure, in the subsequent cycle. While limited research has addressed the impact of pregnancy loss after a froze

In vitro fertilization and assisted reproductive technology have made great progress during the last 20 years. Genetic material donation, human embryo cryopreservation, selective embryo reduction, preimplantation genetic diagnosis and surrogacy are currently practiced in many countries. On the other hand, embryo research is practiced only in a small number of nations, whereas human cloning has thus far been universally condemned. The rapid evolution and progress of all these techniques of assisted reproduction has revealed certain ethical issues that have to be addressed.

Ineffective endometrial matrix remodeling, a key factor in infertility, impedes embryo implantation in the uterine wall. Our study reveals the cellular and molecular impact of human collagenase-1 administration in mouse uteri, demonstrating enhanced embryo implantation rates. Collagenase-1 promotes remodeling of the endometrial ECM, degrading collagen fibers and proteoglycans. This process releases matrix-bound bioactive factors (e.g., VEGF, decorin), facilitating vascular permeability and angiogenesis. Collagenase-1 elevates embryo implantation regulators, including NK cell infiltration and t

The need to identify the most viable embryo following in vitro fertilization (IVF) was established early in the history of human IVF. The stalwart of identifying the best embryos has been morphology. Other techniques have however seen wide acceptance, including the use of preimplantation genetic screening, even though concerns exist over the invasive nature of the technique. Alternatively, noninvasive assessment technologies have tried to determine an embryo's viability through measurements of factors in the media or by imaging of the embryo. We present data showing that the metabolic blueprin

The preponderance of research toward improving embryo development in vitro has focused on manipulation of the chemical soluble environment, including altering basic salt composition, energy substrate concentration, amino acid makeup, and the effect of various growth factors or addition or subtraction of other supplements. In contrast, relatively little work has been done examining the physical requirements of preimplantation embryos and the role culture platforms or devices can play in influencing embryo development within the laboratory. The goal of this review is not to reevaluate the solubl

BACKGROUND: Elective frozen-embryo transfer has been shown to result in a higher live-birth rate than fresh-embryo transfer among anovulatory women with the polycystic ovary syndrome. It is uncertain whether frozen-embryo transfer increases live-birth rates among ovulatory women with infertility.
METHODS: In this multicenter, randomized trial, we randomly assigned 2157 women who were undergoing their first in vitro fertilization cycle to undergo either fresh-embryo transfer or embryo cryopreservation followed by frozen-embryo transfer. Up to two cleavage-stage embryos were transferred in each

RESEARCH QUESTION: Is the duration of embryo exposure to a hyaluronan-enriched transfer medium before fresh embryo transfer associated with live birth rate?
DESIGN: Monocentric retrospective cohort study of 1089 fresh embryo transfers carried out between February 2022 and July 2024. All fresh embryo transfers carried out during the study period with available automated timing data were included. Embryo exposure time to EmbryoGlue® was precisely measured using the RI Witness® automated traceability system. The primary outcome was live birth. Exposure times were analysed as quartiles and as a c

Chromosome abnormalities in the embryos of domestic animals are mostly eliminated during development. De novo chromosome abnormalities in the embryos of domestic animals have been detected in a larger proportion of embryos produced by in vitro fertilization and somatic cell nuclear transfer than in those produced by natural mating or artificial insemination. The increased incidence of abnormalities in embryos produced in vitro provides evidence for an influence of the embryo production procedures on chromosome stability. Research strategies involving cytogenetics, molecular biology and reprodu

This review brings together research findings on cervical relaxation in the ewe and its pharmacological stimulation for enhancement of the penetration needed for transcervical insemination and embryo transfer. On the basis that the success of artificial insemination is the percentage of ewes lambing, a review is made of recent research aimed at understanding and minimising the sub-lethal effects of freezing and thawing on the viability of spermatozoa, their membrane integrity and their ability to migrate through cervical mucus, as these characteristics have a major influence on fertility, part

In vitro fertilization (IVF) began in Melbourne in 1970 when Carl Wood founded a research group at the Queen Victoria Hospital. The group reported the first biochemical pregnancy from a transferred IVF embryo in 1973. The group included the Royal Women's Hospital Melbourne, and they were the first to report confirmation of the British group's pregnancies with the use of IVF in natural cycles in 1980. The group then split, and the Monash group pursued fertility drug-induced multiple follicle growth in controlled ovulatory cycles and demonstrated for the first time that they could achieve multip

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are essential regulators of fertilization and early embryo development in mammals, including humans and various animal models, but they exert detrimental effects when produced in excess. In assisted reproductive technologies (ART), particularly in vitro fertilization (IVF), exposure to non-physiological conditions increases oxidative stress (OS), impairing gamete quality, embryo viability, and clinical outcomes. This review synthesizes experimental and clinical studies describing the endogenous and exogenous sources of ROS relevant to embryo development in IVF. En

Exosomes have the ability to carry a wide range of chemicals, convey them to target cells or target regions, and act as "messengers." For the purpose of investigating embryo attachment, it is helpful to comprehend the range of exosomal mRNAs and miRNAs derived from the uterine flushing fluid before and after embryo attachment. In this study, we recovered exosomes from goat uterine rinsing fluid at 5, 15, and 18 days of gestation and used RNA-Seq to identify the mRNA and miRNA profiles of exosomes obtained from uterine rinsing fluid before and after embryo implantation. In total, 91 differently

There have been over 8 million babies born through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and this number continues to grow. There is a global trend to perform elective single embryo transfers, avoiding risks associated with multiple pregnancies. It is therefore important to understand where current research of noninvasive testing for embryos stands, and what are the most promising techniques currently used. Furthermore, it is important to identify the potential to translate research and development into clinically applicable methods that ultimately improve live birth and reduce time to pregnancy. The c

Therapeutic embryonic stem cell research raises a number of ethical and legal issues. The promised benefits are new and important knowledge of human embryological development, gene action, and the production of transplantable tissue and organs that could be effective in reversing or curing currently irreversible disease processes. However, this research involves the deliberate production, use, and ultimate destruction of cloned embryos, hence re-awakening the debate on the moral status of the embryo. Other moral anxieties include the possibility that women (as donors of ova) would be exploited

This study is the first to report that triploids and tetraploids have been successfully produced through embryo sac and zygotic embryo chromosome doubling with high temperatures in P. simonii Carr. and its hybrid. A new synthetic polyploid induced by hybridization with unreduced gametes and heterozygotic embryo chromosome doubling can effectively combine polyploidy and heterosis, which can provide two major breeding advantages. In Populus, successfully creating and cultivating new polyploid varieties have economic and ecological production value. This was the first successful study in which em

Branching morphology is important to ensure that the organ can obtain the efficient functional morphology in a limited volume. The submandibular gland is a crucial model for studying the morphological processes of organ branches. Harvesting the submandibular gland from mouse embryo is also an essential research technique. In this paper, a modified method for obtaining the submandibular glands of mouse embryo was introduced, and the whole process of obtaining and establishing in vitro organ culture was briefly introduced to accurately simulate branch morphogenesis for vivo development and relat

Results of recent research on hydatidiform moles and teratomas show that during pregnancy the embryo does not receive any message or information from the mother able to control the mechanisms of development or to produce the type of cellular differentiation necessary for building the tissues of the new human adult. Thus, the biological identity of the new human being does not depend on the sojourn in the uterus; the preimplantation embryo is the same individual of the human species as the adult, into whom the embryo can in principle develop.
