Adverse childhood experiences, posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms, and emotional intelligence in partner aggression.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) has been linked to childhood abuse, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and low emotional intelligence (EI). Relationships among adverse childhood experiences (ACE), PTSD symptoms, and partner aggression (i.e., generalized tendency to aggress toward one's partner) were assessed in 108 male IPV offenders. It was hypothesized that ACE is positively correlated with partner aggression, PTSD mediates the ACE-aggression relationship, and the ACE-PTSD-aggression mediation varies by selected EI facets. Results indicate that ACE has an indirect effect on partner aggres

Emotional intelligence intervention to improve mental well-being of adolescents with emotional distress (BEAM): study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Adolescents experiencing emotional distress are at increased risk of developing mental health problems, which can negatively impact their academic performance, social relationships and long-term well-being. Schools provide a key setting for implementing preventive interventions that promote emotional and psychological resilience. This study presents the protocol for a randomised controlled trial designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a multicomponent, school-based intervention grounded in emotional intelligence (EI) in improving mental well-being, EI levels and resilience amon

Emotional Intelligence Training: Influence of a Brief Slow-Paced Breathing Exercise on Psychophysiological Variables Linked to Emotion Regulation.

Designing emotional intelligence training programs requires first testing the effectiveness of techniques targeting its main dimensions. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a brief slow-paced breathing (SPB) exercise on psychophysiological variables linked to emotion regulation, namely cardiac vagal activity (CVA), as well as perceived stress intensity, emotional arousal, and emotional valence. A total of 61 participants completed a 5-min SPB exercise and a control condition of a 5-min rest measurement. CVA was indexed with the root mean square of successive differences (RM

A comparison of the trait emotional intelligence profiles of individuals with and without Asperger syndrome.

The extent to which the socioemotional impairments of Asperger syndrome (AS) might be extreme manifestations of individual differences within the general population remains under-explored. We compared the trait emotional intelligence (trait EI) profiles of 30 individuals with AS against the profiles of 43 group-matched controls using the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue). Participants with AS scored significantly lower than controls on 12 of the 15 TEIQue facets (η(p) (2) = 0.09 to 0.49) as well as on all four factors and the global score of the construct (η(p) (2) = 0.07 to

Effects of emotional intelligence intervention on mental health: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Mental health interventions have increasingly shifted beyond symptom reduction toward strengthening psychological resources that support adaptive functioning and well-being. Emotional intelligence (EI), encompassing competencies related to emotional awareness, understanding, regulation, and interpersonal functioning, represents a potentially modifiable target for promoting mental health. However, existing evidence remains fragmented regarding the EI domains targeted, intervention characteristics, and effectiveness across symptom-based and positive psychological outcomes. OBJECTIVE

Emotional intelligence and self-regulated learning: psychological pathways to student engagement and academic performance.

Emotional intelligence (EI) and self-regulated learning (SRL) have emerged as central constructs for explaining why some students sustain engagement and achieve academically under pressure while others succumb to burnout and inefficiency. This mini-review synthesizes theoretical and empirical work on the association between EI and SRL and on the psychological pathways through which the two jointly shape academic engagement and performance. We first situate the EI-SRL relationship within self-regulation theory and contrast the ability and trait models of EI, specifying how each maps onto distin

Emotional Intelligence and Transformational Leadership: Meta-Analysis and Explanatory Model of Female Leadership Advantage.

Emotional intelligence is a second-stratum factor of general intelligence (MacCann et al. 2014) that: (a) has been popularly touted as an essential individual difference for effective leadership (Goleman 1998), but also (b) exhibits large gender group differences favoring women (Joseph and Newman 2010). Combining these insights, we propose that emotional intelligence is a key mechanism in the so-called female leadership advantage (Eagly and Carli 2003-which emphasizes the finding that women are rated slightly higher in transformational leadership compared to men). The current study seeks to ex

From Emotional Intelligence to Self-Injuries: A Path Analysis in Adolescents With Conduct Disorder.

Objective: Self-harm acts are highly prevalent among adolescents with conduct disorder. It has been shown that low level of emotional intelligence (EI) might be related to a higher risk of self-injuries. However, the exact mechanisms underlying this association are still unclear. The purpose of this study was to explore whether psychopathological symptoms and selected psychological processes mediate the association between EI and self-harm risk in adolescents with conduct disorders. Method: Out of 162 adolescents with conduct disorder approached for participation, 136 individuals (aged 14.8 ±
