Malignant acanthosis nigricans is recognized as a cutaneous sign of internal malignancy, usually an adenocarcinoma. Although cases of malignant acanthosis nigricans have been associated with cervical, ovarian, and endometrial neoplasms, we describe a case with a rarely if ever reported association, endometrioid adenocarcinoma of the parametrium.

Mesonephric adenocarcinomas are rare neoplasms derived from remnants of the paired mesonephric ducts. Neoplasms arising from the uterine corpus that are morphologically and immunohistochemically similar to true mesonephric carcinomas, but do not arise from mesonephric remnants, are termed "mesonephric-like" adenocarcinomas. The diagnosis of mesonephric-like adenocarcinoma is pathologically challenging. These tumors often exhibit a mixture of morphologic patterns of more common adenocarcinomas. Although their morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular profiles have been recently defined, m

In the present study, we screened for the K-ras exon 2 point mutations in a group of 87 gynecological neoplasms (82 endometrial carcinomas, four carcinomas of the uterine cervix and one uterine carcinosarcoma) using the non-isotopic PCR-SSCP-direct sequencing techniques. Direct sequencing analysis revealed CAA-->CAC (Gln-->His) K-ras codon 61 point mutations in two (2.4%) of the 82 endometrial carcinomas mentioned above. These two cases were endometrial endometrioid carcinomas at an early clinical stage of disease (stage IB and IC due to FIGO). Those endometrial carcinomas that showed K-ras ex

Endometrial cancer--the most common malignancy of the female reproductive tract--arises from the specialized epithelial cells that line the inner surface of the uterus. Although significant advances have been made in our understanding of this disease in recent years, one significant limitation has been the lack of a diverse genetic toolkit for the generation of mouse models. We identified a novel endometrial-specific gene, Sprr2f, and developed a Sprr2f-Cre transgene for conditional gene targeting within endometrial epithelium. We then used this tool to generate a completely penetrant Lkb1 (al

BACKGROUND: Metastatic Müllerian carcinomas, including endometrial and ovarian adenocarcinomas, are challenging to diagnose due to factors like similar malignancies, insufficient clinical history, multiorgan dissemination, and small tumor specimens. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) stains are commonly used to identify these cancers. PAX8 is a widely used IHC marker with varying sensitivity levels for different types of gynecologic carcinomas. SOX17, a transcription factor involved in embryonic differentiation and development, has high specificity for ovarian and endometrial carcinomas but is weakly

The contribution made by adjuvant hormone therapy in the development of primary multiple endometrial adenocarcinoma (EA) in patients with breast tumors (BT) is not quite clear. The study was based on the data on 5,790 cases of BT treated at our Clinic and 4,447 females screened for hormone-dependent neoplasms. Patients with BT were found to be at high cumulative risk for endometrial carcinogenesis caused by general factors of risk and pathogenesis. The risk was particularly high in BT (stage 1) within 12 months after treatment. There was no correlation between tamoxifen treatment and significa

BACKGROUND: Uterine carcinosarcoma is a rare, highly aggressive malignancy characterized by both carcinomatous and sarcomatous components. Brenner tumors of the ovary are uncommon epithelial neoplasms, usually benign but occasionally coexisting with other pathologies. The co-occurrence of these two entities is extremely rare and poses diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.
METHODS: We report a case of a 58-year-old female presenting with scant yellowish vaginal discharge. Imaging studies revealed an intrauterine mass. Histopathological analysis of curettage specimens confirmed endometrial mal

Endometrial and cervical cancers are the most prevalent gynecologic neoplasms. While endometrial cancer occurs in older women, cervical cancer is more prevalente in young subjects. The most common clinical manifestation in these two gynecological cancers is vaginal bleeding. In the first case, diagnosis is made based on histological and imaging evaluation of the endometrium, while cervical cancers are diagnosed clinically, according to the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO). The authors present a case of synchronous gynecological cancer of the endometrium and cervix d

Endometrial carcinoma is the most common invasive neoplasm of the female genital tract and is associated to the elevated levels of unopposed estrogen, especially in postmenopause. Ovarian Steroid cell tumors are rare tumors and they are named according to the origin of cell. The most common cancer of the female genital tract is the endometrial adenocarcinoma and it accounts for 7% of all invasive cancers in women. In the present case report, the authors present a 59-year-old multiparous woman with a postmenopausal bleeding complaint and they discuss the case of ovarian steroid cell tumor assoc

A 28-year-old patient presented with a 5 cm endometrial stromal tumor situated at the uteroplacental interface, which was diagnosed ultrasonographically at the 28th week of pregnancy. The tumor was asymptomatic and closely attached to the decidua; after a normal term delivery, it was revealed to be embedded within the placenta. Microscopically, the neoplasm had a high mitotic rate and characteristic features of endometrial stromal tumor, such as CD10, progesterone receptor positivity, and an expansile linear, non-infiltrative pushing border. There were also pregnancy-related changes such as de

Tumors of the uterus resembling ovarian sex cord tumors were reported by Clement and Scully in 1976 and were divided in 2 groups: group 1, endometrial stromal tumors, and group 2, mural uterine tumors-both with elements resembling ovarian sex cord tumors. In the former, the sex cord component constitutes a minor portion of an endometrial stromal neoplasm, whereas in the latter, it is the predominant or exclusive component of a uterine wall lesion composed of a variety of mesenchymal elements. An origin from endometrial stromal cells, adenomyosis, stromal myosis, endometriosis, or multipotentia

Tracheal neoplasms are easily missed until a late stage, but an accurate histological diagnosis can lead to a very worthwhile result. A case of Hodgkin's disease presenting with stridor due to tracheal infiltration, diagnosed following an endometrial biopsy and treated successfully with external beam radiotherapy, is here reported upon.

Neoplastic data on 1370 control Wistar rats from 10 carcinogenicity bioassays done between 1980 and 1990 were reviewed. Mean percentage survival at 104 weeks was 58% for males and 59% for females. A total of 1857 neoplasms were diagnosed in 466 (68%) male and 582 (85%) female rats; 1390 were benign and 467 were malignant (12% with metastasis). Seventy-four percent of all neoplasms were in endocrine and reproductive systems. Most common neoplasms (affecting more than 7% of either sex) were pituitary adenoma (27.7% males; 55.0% females), mammary fibroadenoma (1.0% males; 25.3% females), mammary

A case-control study was carried out in Mexico City during 1995-1997 among women with epithelial ovarian cancer (84 cases) and endometrial cancer (85 cases). The control group consisted of 668 healthy women, matched according to age categories. In a multivariate analysis, the reproductive risk factors for ovarian and endometrial cancer are similar. The risk of ovarian cancer was inversely related to the number of full-term pregnancies; the odds ratio (OR) was 0.17 and the 95% confidence interval (CI) was 0.05-0.54 when comparing nulliparous women versus those with more than seven pregnancies.

Endometrial stromal sarcoma with sex cord differentiation is a very unusual neoplasm affecting the uterine cavity with an incidence of only 0.25%. They can cause difficulties in diagnosis due to it is histologic appearance and rarity of occurrence. Histopathological diagnosis still remains the cornerstone of diagnosis. Immunohistochemistry and molecular studies are also very helpful. We report a case of a 47-year-old patient who was diagnosed clinically and radiologically as intramural leiomyoma, but on histopathology examination and immunohistochemically proved to be endometrial stromal sarco

BACKGROUND: Carcinosarcoma of the endometrium is a relatively rare but aggressive neoplasm. Endometrial cytological features of this type of tumor have been rarely reported. This study aimed to clarify the usefulness of endometrial cytological examination in the diagnosis of endometrial carcinosarcoma.
METHODS: Patients histopathologically diagnosed with endometrial carcinosarcoma who underwent preoperative endometrial or endocervical cytological examination were enrolled. The endometrial and/or endocervical specimens were conventionally stained with Papanicolaou stain, and the cytological ch

Endometrial carcinoma, now the most frequent female genital tract malignancy in Denmark, is generally accepted as an endocrine-related neoplasm. Like normal endometrium, many endometrial carcinomas contain estrogen receptors as well as progesterone receptors. The receptor content appears to correlate with several histopathological features, in particular with tumour differentiation. Well-differentiated lesions are more frequently estrogen and progesterone receptor "positive" than poorly differentiated lesions. Several studies suggest that a high content of estrogen/progesterone receptors in pr

Luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone receptor (LHRHR) expression has been reported in various cancers, including endometrial neoplasms. Thus, LHRHR provides a potential point for therapeutic approach using LHRH analogs as carrier molecules for chemotherapeutic agents in this cancer population. However, clinical data did not prove any potential benefits for patients. We decided to assess LHRHR expression in patients with endometrial cancer to explain possible lack of efficacy in previous clinical reports. LHRHR expression was assessed immunohistochemically in different anatomic and histogeneti

We report 4 neoplasms of the kidney (2 cases) and uterus (2 cases) harboring rearrangements or amplifications of the GLI1 gene, which because of their unusual clinical presentation, morphology, and immunoprofile mimicked other neoplasms, causing significant diagnostic challenge. The neoplasms occurred in 4 female patients ages 33 to 88 years. Histologically they all demonstrated nodular growth, solid architecture, bland epithelioid to ovoid-spindle cells with pale cytoplasm set in a variably myxoid or hyalinized stroma. One uterine tumor also demonstrated a focal round cell pattern, while anot

In this paper, we report a new case of metastatic endometrial carcinoma to the vulva and describe the clinical and pathological features. We reviewed the literature to determine the frequency and to evaluate the prognostic significance of this rare disease. Moreover, we discuss the criteria for the differential diagnosis of endometrial carcinoma metastatic to the vulva, the primary vulvar adenocarcinomas, and other metastatic adenocarcinomas. The patient, previously diagnosed to have endometrial adenocarcinoma with squamous differentiation at III C stage (according to the FIGO system) and T2N1
