Fibrodysplasia (myositis) ossificans progressiva (FOP) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder in which there is a progressive ectopic ossification and skeletal malformation, mainly in the connective tissue of muscle. The diagnosis is based on the clinical findings and radiological demonstration of the skeletal malformations. We report a 5 year-old female case with FOP.

The use of a non-volatile modifier and the simultaneous exclusion of oxygen by flushing with helium in ion-pair HPLC of 99mTc(Sn)EHDP-complexes prevents spurious oxidation during the separation process. A 26-year-old man sustained a C5 complete spinal cord injury (SCI) and displayed hysteric behavior which continued into the fourth month of hospitalization. Four months after injury, sudden loss of scalp hair was noted, consistent with psychogenic telogen effluvium. Other causes of hair loss were ruled out. During the sixth month, peak hair loss was noted over the back of the head. Four months after peak shedding, the loss of young club hairs was no longer observed. A number of medications promote the development of calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPDD). We report 2 cases of acute CPDD after intravenous zoledronic acid therapy. Case #1: a 63-year-old female was admitted for vertebroplasty at the site of an osteoporotic fracture. She received an intravenous infusion of zoledronic acid 5mg on the day after the procedure. Acute CPDD developed in her right knee 24hours later. Findings from joint aspiration and standard radiography confirmed the diagnosis. Risedronate is effective and approved for the treatment of osteoporosis in Japan. Risedronate decreases strongly bone resorption and turnover via a potent inhibitory action on osteoclasts. Risedronate was shown to significantly decrease the risk of nonvertebral fractures including hip fractures as well as vertebral fractures in placebo-controlled, 3-year clinical trials in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. The efficacy of risedronate elucidated by recent clinical studies was reviewed.

OBJECTIVE: To systematically review the evidence for the use of bisphosphonate therapy in otosclerosis through clinically relevant outcomes.
DATABASES REVIEWED: MEDLINE, EMBASE, PubMed, and CINAHL databases were searched up to July 12, 2021.
METHODS: RCTs and cohort studies investigating the effect of bisphosphate therapy on adults or children diagnosed with otosclerosis were included. The risk of bias within trials was examined using the ROB2 tool for RCTs, and the ROBINS-I for non-RCTs.

A 68-year-old postmenopausal woman with osteoporosis received intermittent cyclic etidronate therapy (400 mg/day). No concomitant diseases were noted. A baseline transiliac bone biopsy showed a high bone turnover without impairment due to mineralization. After 2 years of treatment, she had increased osteoid volume, and mineralization lag time corresponded to a variant form of osteomalacia called atypical osteomalacia. No clinical consequence was observed. This is the first case report of such a mineralization defect due to 2 year intermittent cyclic etidronate therapy.
