Isolation by pressurised fluid extraction (PFE) and identification using CPC and HPLC/ESI/MS of phenolic compounds from Brazilian cherry seeds (Eugenia uniflora L.).

Brazilian cherry seeds are a waste product from juice and frozen pulp production and, the seeds composition was investigated to valorize this by-product. Compounds separation was performed with ethanol by pressurised fluid extraction (PFE). Here we determine the effect of temperature (T), static time (ST), number of cycles (C), and flush volume (VF) on the yield, composition and total phenolic content (TPC) of the seed extracts. T, ST and their interaction positively influenced yield and TPC. Extracts were fractionated by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and centrifugal partition

Antibacterial activity and mode of action of acetone crude leaf extracts of under-investigated Syzygium and Eugenia (Myrtaceae) species on multidrug resistant porcine diarrhoeagenic Escherichia coli.

BACKGROUND: Diarrhoea, a global economically important disease burden affecting swine and, especially piglets, is commonly caused by infection with entero-toxigenic E. coli (ETEC). Adherence of ETEC to porcine intestinal epithelial cells following infection, is necessary for its pathogenesis. While antimicrobials are commonly given as therapy or as feed additives for prophylaxis against microbial infections, the concern over increased levels of antimicrobial resistance necessitate the search for safe and effective alternatives in livestock feed. Attention is shifting to natural products includ

Colleter diversity across Eugeniinae (Myrtaceae): morphology, occurrence and taxonomic implications.

Myrteae is a tribe that encompasses the majority of Neotropical Myrtaceae diversity, with the subtribe Eugeniinae being the most species-rich, including the genera Eugenia (1,243 spp.) and Myrcianthes (41 spp.). Morphologically, the group presents complex taxonomy, particularly in Eugenia, which is subdivided into 11 infrageneric sections. The search for new morphological characters is crucial for delimiting and identifying species and infrageneric groups. In this context, colleters (glandular structures involved in the protection of leaf and floral primordia) remain poorly explored. This stud

Eugenol Nanoparticles Ameliorate Doxorubicin-Induced Spermatogenic Dysfunction by Inhibiting the PINK1/Parkin and BNIP3/NIX Signaling Pathways.

PURPOSE: Doxorubicin (DOX) precipitates cell apoptosis in testicular tissues, and it is imperative to develop drugs to alleviate the spermatogenic disorders it causes. Eugenia caryophyllata Thunb is often used to treat male sexual disorders. Eugenol, a major component of Eugenia caryophyllata Thunb. has inadequate stability and low solubility, which limits its pharmacological effects. Eugenol nanoparticles (NPs) (ENPs) are expected to overcome these limitations. The protective effects of ENPs against DOX-induced reproductive toxicity were studied in mice. METHODS: Eugenol was encapsulated in
