Bonneau or cardio-ducto-polysyndactyly syndrome is an extremely rare, life-threatening developmental defect, which has only been reported in eight patients previously. Here, we describe one such case of Bonneau syndrome in a newborn with additional novel manifestations. This late preterm (35 weeks of gestation) neonate born to parents of consanguineous marriage following a pregnancy complicated by polyhydramnios was symmetrically small for date at birth (<3rd centile for weight, length, and occipitofrontal circumference). She had the typical Bonneau syndrome features such as facial dysmorphism

The present paper reports the authors' observations in a rare case of primary hereditary oxalosis (adult type). Four years after renal function loss, calcium oxylate deposits were found in the skin and in both retinae. In spite of hemodialysis and a special diet, the deposits increased considerably during an observation period of 19 months. The skin was indurated and the genucubital articulations were immobilized. In spite of incipient circumscribed edema the retinal changes did not cause any detectable restriction of function, as the fovea was not involved and the retinal border was only slig

CONTEXT: Thyroid eye disease (TED) is an autoimmune disease involving periocular and orbital tissue. The manifestations of TED include proptosis, diplopia, visual disturbance, and lacrimal symptoms. Dry/gritty eyes, light sensitivity, and tearing are prominent lacrimal system-related symptoms. They can be misdiagnosed as dry eye syndrome, chronic conjunctivitis, or allergies. Multiple therapeutic interventions can be utilized in the management of lacrimal symptoms of TED.
EVIDENCE DESCRIPTION: Lacrimal system dysfunction occurs from immune cell infiltration of glandular tissues as well as fro

PURPOSE: Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is a common worldwide disease. LPR symptoms may involve distant organs and tissues including the ocular surface with manifestations of a Dry Eye-like disease. We evaluated the concomitant involvement of the ocular surface in patients with LPR. We also defined the clinical signs and the roles of chemical and neuro-inflammatory mediators in the tears of LPR patients.
METHODS: Seventy-seven patients with LPR (mean age 65.8 ± 16.8 SD) and 25 healthy controls (mean age 56.5 ± 16.3 SD) were recruited from the otorhinolaryngology unit. Each subject was evaluat

Shprintzen-Goldberg craniosynostosis syndrome (SGS) is a rare autosomal dominant condition that was first documented in literature in 1982. The disorder is caused by pathogenic variants in the proto-oncogene SKI gene, a known suppressor of TGF-β activity, located on chromosome 1p36. There is considerable phenotypic overlap with Marfan and Loeys-Dietz syndromes. Common clinical features of SGS include craniosynostosis, marfanoid habitus, hypotonia, dysmorphic facies, cardiovascular anomalies, and other skeletal and connective tissue abnormalities. Ocular manifestations may include hypertelorism

Monkeypox virus (MPXV), belonging to the Poxviridae family and Orthopoxvirus genus, is closely related to the smallpox virus. Initial prodromal symptoms typically include headache, fever, and lymphadenopathy. This review aims to detail various ocular manifestations and immune evasion associated with the monkeypox viral infection and its complications, making it appropriate as a narrative review. Common external ocular manifestations of MPXV typically involve a generalized pustular rash, keratitis, discharges, and dried secretions related to conjunctival pustules, photophobia, and lacrimation.

BACKGROUND: Ocular manifestations in dogs with leishmaniasis are frequent and complications in affected tissues can lead to blindness. Immune processes play a very important role in the pathogenesis of ocular inflammation. Therefore, the immunology of ocular manifestations in dogs with leishmaniasis remains complex and poorly understood.
OBJECTIVES: Estimation and characterisation of ocular and periocular manifestations in dogs naturally infected with Leishmania infantum and investigation of the production site of specific anti-Leishmania infantum IgG.
METHODS: The present investigation used

Coronavirus infection disease-19 (COVID-19) is a worldwide catastrophic emergency that first appeared in late 2019, in Wuhan, China. COVID-19 is a multitropism disease that first affects lung tissue. However, extrapulmonary manifestations have been suspected from the first COVID-19 cases. The ocular signs and symptoms were from the early changes that occur during the course of the disease. Changes in the anterior eye segment have a relatively higher incidence than the posterior eye segment. Of which, conjunctivitis, COVID-19 pharyngioceratoconjuctivitis, iridocyclitis, corneal punctate epithel

The EEG in childhood epilepsy with occipital paroxysms (CEOP) was termed "distinctive" by Gastaut (1985) and Talwar et al. (1992) and "characteristic" by Herranz Tanarro et al. (1984), which suggests that the EEG is specific and diagnostic for CEOP. However, this hypothesis has been challenged (Newton and Aicardi, 1983; Beaumanoir and Grandjean, 1987). To test this, we reviewed 5,291 EEG reports made in 5 1/2 years in the only tertiary pediatric center in Newfoundland and Labrador. We identified 31 children who had one or more EEGs with occipital spike/sharp waves showing suppression of discha
