A 46-year-old man presented with left eye blurring. Automated visual field testing showed an incongruous right hemianopia, with sparing of the lower temporal quadrant in the right eye. A neoplasm of the ciliary body extending from the equator to the iris and the anterior chamber was observed in an 18-year old girl. Because the visual acuity was lost and the clinical diagnosis was uncertain the eye was enucleated. Both optic and electron microscopic investigations allowed the diagnosis of the mesectodermal type of leiomyoma of the ciliary body.

Sebaceous adenoma of the conjunctiva is a very rare lesion of uncertain origin. It is usually associated with Muir-Torre syndrome in which neoplasms are also found in other parts of the body. We present the case of a 71-year-old man without a previous or family history of neoplasia, who presented with severe inflammation and an infection in his right eye associated with a tumor of the conjunctiva near the caruncle. The lesion was excised and histopathology revealed a sebaceous adenoma. Microsatellite instability was not observed immunohistochemically. He remains alive and well.

Periocular pain may result from local pathology or be referred from distant sites. Ophthalmic examination will detect most local disease, although a careful search may be needed to determine the cause of subtle entities. Painful ophthalmoplegia results from a variety of neoplasms and inflammations, often in the area of the cavernous sinus. Cluster headache should be differentiated from more sinister causes of painful Horner's syndrome. Systemic diseases that cause periocular pain and migraine and other classic headache syndromes that may present with eye pain alone are also discussed.

PURPOSE: To investigate the diagnostic value of ultrasound biomicroscopy(UBM) in anterior segment vitreoretinal disorders(ASVD).

BACKGROUND: Children with brain neoplasms often develop cranial nerve palsies (CNP) affecting ocular ductions. Duction deficits may improve or resolve with treatment of their intracranial disease. However, these children may be left with residual strabismus.

CASE REPORT: We describe a 79 year-old woman who had a small lesion on the inner corner of her right eye for the last 6 months. The lesion was surgically excised and histologically analysed, with a diagnosis of oncocytoma of the caruncle.
DISCUSSION: Ocular oncocytomas are rare benign neoplasms found in the caruncle, conjunctiva, lacrimal gland and lacrimal sac. They are composed of transformed epithelial cells of the ducts. Although rare, this tumour should be recognized especially in the elderly because of the exceptional development of adenocarcinoma.

Syringomas are common benign neoplasms encountered mostly around the eyes. However, as described herein, these tumors can occur in atypical locations such as the axilla. The differential diagnosis revolves around those entities more likely seen in this anatomical location (such as Fox-Fordyce, Hailey-Hailey and Darier diseases).
