Evaluation of families of crack users in relation to support groups.

OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the perception of the relatives of crack users in relation to the support groups offered to this population in a Psychosocial Care Center for Alcohol and Drugs in the South of Brazil. METHOD: the fourth-generation theoretical framework was used for evaluation, having as methodological device the hermeneutical-dialectic circle. Data collection occurred through 500 hours of observations and interviews with 12 relatives of crack users, and the comparative constant method was used in the analysis, generating the "family group" unit of meaning. RESULTS: this group was regar

The Role of Alaska's Tribal Health Workers in Supporting Families.

Alaska's Community Health Aides/Practitioners (CHA/Ps) are often the sole medical workers in their communities in rural Alaska, and are instrumental in providing healthcare services and education to otherwise underserved individuals. This qualitative study explored how CHA/Ps support healthy families. Six CHA/Ps from two rural communities in western Alaska were interviewed about their scope of practice, interactions with mothers, infants, families, and teens, relationship to other medical providers, and perceptions of their work. Using grounded theory, verbatim notes were analyzed in Dedoose s

The relation of family and partner support to the adjustment of adolescent mothers.

The influence of teenage mothers' perceptions of family and partner social support on their postpartum adjustment was examined in this study. A structured interview with teenage mothers was conducted prenatally and a follow-up assessment was done when their children were 8 months of age. Both partner and family support were related to greater satisfaction with life, but each was associated in a different way with parenting and concerns about daily living. The results indicate the importance of distinguishing between specific sources of social support and different aspects of adjustment to teen

Meeting Family Education and Support Needs in the Early Psychosis Context: Description and Evaluation of a Pragmatic Family Program.

INTRODUCTION: Despite a solid evidence base, mental health services often struggle to implement family interventions as part of routine psychosis care. Barriers to implementation include staff lacking training, supervision and confidence, as well as organisations lacking resources and prioritising crisis-focused interventions. Specific barriers in the early psychosis context include family readiness and interest, access limitations, and lack of perceived alignment with their needs and preferences. This paper describes and evaluates a pragmatic family education and support program in an Austral

Psychological distress, family functioning, and social support in family caregivers for patients with dementia in the mainland of China.

BACKGROUND: Dementia is a chronic progressive disease seriously affecting the patient's daily life and working skills and may cause the patient disability and dependence. Thus, caring for dementia patients inevitably falls on families in the mainland of China. Unfortunately, there are rarely enough reports available about mental health and social support in family caregivers for domestic dementia patients. This study aimed to investigate the changes in psychological status and social support in domestic dementia family caregivers and hope the government and relevant departments pay more attent

Belief-based family support intervention to strengthen family resilience among breast cancer caregivers: A quasi-experimental study in Indonesia.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effectiveness of a belief-based family support intervention in improving family resilience among caregivers of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. METHODS: A 12-week belief-based family support program was developed by integrating the Health Belief Model with family resilience principles. The intervention consisted of four structured modules: (1) belief-oriented family support, (2) cancer and chemotherapy education, (3) coping and role adaptation, and (4) communication and reflection. Sessions were delivered through blended learning formats combining in-pe

Social support matters: trajectories of support from family, friends, and teachers shape the course of adolescent internalizing and externalizing problems.

Social support from family, friends, and teachers is critical in preventing adolescents' internalizing and externalizing problems. However, longitudinal research on how different combinations of social support influence these problems remains limited. To address this gap, this study employed Parallel Process Latent Class Growth Modeling (PP-LCGM) to examine the joint developmental trajectories of support from family, friends, and teachers, and their associations with the developmental trajectories of internalizing problems (i.e., depressive symptoms and non-suicidal self-injury) and externaliz

Linked lives and work-family dynamics: gendered workload, family support, and mental well-being among urban Chinese dual-earner households.

In China, debates on achieving work-family balance have intensified with the rise of the dual-earner model. Balancing paid and unpaid work is stressful for dual-earner couples resulting in poor mental well-being outcomes for both partners. While prior mental well-being research mainly focused on individual associations, our study investigates associations of paid and unpaid workloads on spousal mental well-being within married dyads. Moreover, given that family support is an important resource in accordance with Chinese cultural and social norms, we investigate the mitigating role of family su

Living well with dementia: a qualitative interview study on family caregivers' call for more person- and family-centered dementia support.

Many caregivers experience loneliness, social isolation, and stress from sacrificing their own well-being. This study aimed to describe the daily experiences of family caregivers of individuals with dementia, with the objective of better understanding and addressing their specific needs. METHODS: Qualitative interviews with 11 family caregivers in Sweden. Data were analyzed by induct

Family-Centered Rehabilitation Care for Children with Cerebral Palsy in Saudi Arabia: Perceived Helpfulness of Formal and Informal Family Support.

Background/Objectives: Within a family-centered care framework, families of children with cerebral palsy (CP) rely on both informal and formal support systems to manage caregiving demands, yet the adequacy and perceived helpfulness of this support vary. This study aimed to examine the availability of different support sources for families of children with CP in Saudi Arabia, explore their perceived helpfulness, and evaluate the influence of child-, parent-, geographical-, and household-related characteristics on the level of family support helpfulness. Methods: A cross-sectional study was cond

Society of Family Planning Research Practice Support: Strategies and considerations for addressing race and racism in quantitative family planning studies.

OBJECTIVES: Family planning researchers have not critically engaged with topics of race, racism, and associated concepts like ethnicity. This lack of engagement contributes to the reproduction of research that reifies racial hierarchies rather than illuminate and interrupt the processes by which racism affects health. This Research Practice Support paper lays out considerations and best practices for addressing race and racism in quantitative family planning research. STUDY DESIGN: We are scholars with racialized identities and expertise in racial health equity in family planning research. We

Family support, family stress, and suicidal ideation in a combat-exposed sample of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Deployment-related risk factors for suicidal ideation among Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) veterans have received a great deal of attention. Studies show that mental health symptoms mediate the association between most deployment stressors and suicidal ideation; however, family-related factors during deployment are largely unexplored. We examined posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression symptoms as mediators of the associations between deployment family support and stress and post-deployment suicidal ideation in combat-e

Using telesimulation to introduce a rural virtual support program to family medicine residents.

Rural and remote physicians face challenges including management of critically ill patients. At eleven British Columbia resident teaching sites, seven of which were rural, we developed interactive video simulation sessions for treating such patients, and these were video-preceptored by a remotely located physician providing real-time debriefing. Family medicine residents found this program acceptable and educational, felt it increased confidence in managing sick patients, and could lead to future rural experiences and retention. Given this program additionally decreases cost and time of simula
