[Incidence of osteoporosis and aseptic femur head necrosis following complex therapy of germ cell testicular tumors].

Between the period of 1981 and 1991 at the National Institute of Oncology 1300 patients suffering from non-seminoma testicular cancer were treated by chemotherapy. Among them 19 cases of femoral head necrosis, one side or bilateral, were observed. Authors collected and compared the data of 16 patients of osteonecrosis and 28 without it. The aim of the study was the determination of the causes of osteonecrosis and searching for possible relation between antineoplastic therapy and osteoporosis. High alcohol consumption was found in 15 cases in the osteonecrotic group, versus one among the others

Worldwide research trends on femur head necrosis (2000-2021): a bibliometrics analysis and suggestions for researchers.

BACKGROUND: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common and stubborn disease. The main causes are venous stasis of the femoral head, arterial blood supply damage, bone cell and bone marrow death, and bone tissue necrosis and subsequent repair obstacles. Over the past 22 years, the number of papers on ONFH has, overall, continued to increase. METHODS: Using bibliometrics, we investigated the trends, frontiers, and hotspots of global scientific output in the past 22 years. We searched Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and retrieved inf

[Assessment of tissue microcirculation in patients with aseptic necrosis of femur heads in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)].

AIM: To study microcirculation in the tissues above the hip joints with and without aceptic necrosis of the femur head for diagnosis of necrosis stages. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 22 SLE patients were examined for blood flow above the region of affected and intact (control) hip joints using clearance of Xe-133 from the intratissue deposit. Basal circulation and factors of its regulation were investigated with laser dopplerflowmetry. RESULTS: Effective skin blood flow above the hip joints with necrosis stage I significantly differed from that of the control. Basal skin blood flow above the hip jo

[The non-traumatic femur head necrosis in the adult. I: pathophysiology, clinical picture and therapeutic options].

Intraosseous vascularization is the common pathway of the multifactorial causes of avascular necrosis of the hip (AVN). Recurring ischemic phases could lead to bone necrosis in the initial stage of the disease, when it is still reversible. A spontaneous repair mechanism can lead to complete healing at this stage. The necrotic area demarcates the superior-anterior aspect from the residual femoral head with a reactive interface in the irreversible early stage of the disease. In this stage damage to the femoral head can only be delayed with core decompression or femoral osteotomy, because a suffi

[The effect of ultrasonography screening of hips in newborn infants on femur head necrosis and the rate of surgical interventions].

We compared two similarly sized groups of sonographically unstable or decentered hips with comparable initial findings, both treated by standardized conservative primary treatment. The results show that an early definite diagnosis improves the prognosis. If built on a secure initial diagnosis rationally grounded and efficient conservative therapy can be initiated and followed through on. Since the treatment is started extremely early, the hip can benefit from the considerably greater potential for spontaneous development present in the first three months of life. In this way we can shorten the

[Results of medullary space decompression in the early stage of so-called idiopathic femur head necrosis].

The results of 47 cases of core decompression in 42 patients with stage I and stage II (according to Ficat) avascular necrosis of the femoral head who had been followed up for a minimum of two years were subjected to retrospective analysis. All these cases involved so-called "idiopathic necrosis" of the head of the femur including patients with risk factors (alcohol abuses, lipometabolic disorders and hyperuricemia). 87% of the 30 stage I hip joints showed no radiological signs of deterioration and could also be classified as clinically successful (average follow-up time 47 months (24-100 mont

[Treatment of idiopathic femur head necrosis by implantation of a preserved bone graft. Critical evaluation of the method].

Author reports on the result of treatment in 22 patients with idiopathic femoral head necrosis. Altogether 25 hips were treated with insertion of conserved bone graft. Improvement occurred in only about 1/4 of the operated hips, the other hips deteriorated both clinically and radiologically. The author thinks, reviewing the literature, that the cause of the partly failure was the inadequate selection of patients and the insufficiency of the method. The possibilities of further progression are outlined.

Vascularized pedicle iliac bone grafts as a hip-preserving surgery for femur head necrosis: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head was gradually concerned as a global disease for its progression to collapse of the femoral head, ultimately causing the arthritic change. Due to the high incidence of this disease in young people, arthroplasty tends to be suspected for its uncertain long-term efficiency. Vascularized pedicle iliac bone grafts, as a hip-preserving surgery, were regarded as an effective option in hip-preserving protocol since the 1970s. Nevertheless, there exist no unified standards widely agreed as the optimal operative program since the lack and heterogeneity of re

[Aseptic necrosis of head of femur and disturbance of fat-metabolism type IIa after Fredrickson (author's transl)].

The history of aseptic necrosis of the head of femur is given. Following publication of osteonecrosis in hyperlipoproteinemia type IV after Fredrickson, now for the first time the relation between aseptic necrosis of the femoral head and the primary disturbance of fat metabolism type II is revealed. There exists a hypercholesterinemia, more exactly a hyperbeta-cholesterinemia. The subgroups type IIa and type IIb are explained. Type II is of particular importance since it produces early arteriosclerosis which demands early diagnosis, since this condition can be treated by drugs and diet. In the

[Results of hip joint boring in femur head necrosis in the adult--4 to 18 years follow-up].

INTRODUCTION: Without primary fracture of femoral cortex in femoral head necrosis, 85% of cases have a collapse of the femoral head without treatment after 2 years. It was the aim of this retrospective study to examine the long term outcome of patients having undergone femoral head decompression. METHODS: The clinical evaluation was done by the Harris Score. A.p. pictures of the pelvis as well as Lauenstein X-rays were taken as radiographic evaluation. These were compared to the preoperative radiographs, computer-tomographies, szintigrams and MRIs according to the classification of Ficat et a

The association of COVID-19 with the development of acute avascular necrosis of the head of the femur, apart from steroid usage.

Background: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic (COVID-19) has significantly impacted global health, with emerging evidence indicating potential long-term complications affecting various organ systems, including the musculoskeletal system, like avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head. This retrospective study aims to investigate the incidence and risk factors of AVN in patients treated for COVID-19. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional retrospective study in the department of orthopedics at a tertiary care teaching hospital in Central India from July 2022 to December 2023. Patients presenting with

Inconsistency of Bone Mineral Density Between Femoral Head and Proximal Femur After Femoral Neck Fracture Surgery Indicates Great Possibility of Femoral Head Necrosis.

On clinical observation, it was found that the bone mineral density (BMD) of the femoral head and proximal femur was not consistent in some patients with femoral neck fracture after surgery. The current study was performed to explore whether this phenomenon was associated with femoral head necrosis after surgery for femoral neck fracture. Bone mineral density inconsistency is when the difference of the sum of pixel values on both sides of the fracture line has exceeded 30%. Statistical analysis was performed on the clinical characteristics of 271 patients who had received the operation for fem
