INTRODUCTION: Fish-eye disease (FED) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by a partial deficiency of lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) activity. It is characterized by progressive corneal opacification and dyslipidemia in the absence of systemic manifestations. We describe the clinical presentation, optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging findings, and Scheimpflug-based corneal densitometry results in a patient with FED carrying both a pathogenic variant and a novel missense variant of the LCAT gene not reported in the current literature.

The role of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in alcoholic liver disease (ALD) has been controversial. N-3 PUFA oxidation in animal feeding stuffs was rarely concerned, likely contributing to inconsistent outcomes. Here, we report the impacts of oxidized fish oil (OFO) on ALD in C57BL/6 mice. Alcohol exposure increased plasma aminotransferase levels and hepatic inflammation. These deleterious effects were ameliorated by unoxidized FO but exacerbated by OFO. Serum biochemical analysis was undertaken to study the pathophysiological details of emaciation disease of the tiger puffer fish Takifugu rubripes (Temminck and Schlegel). INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: The use of phosphate additives in meat and fish processing leads to a phosphorus overload that we cannot quantify through labelling or food composition tables. We analysed this increase by measuring phosphorus content in these products by spectrophotometry.

Altered H2S levels and intracellular viscosity have both been seen in Parkinson's disease (PD). However, how H2S and intracellular viscosity are involved in PD pathogenesis remains unknown. Herein, a dual-function fluorescent probe DF was designed and synthesized to analyze intracellular viscosity and hydrogen sulfide. It is a near-infrared fluorescence probe with improved photostability and large Stokes shift (110 nm). The probe reveals increased viscosity and hydrogen sulfide in zebrafish model of PD for the first time.
