DrugRep-KG: Toward Learning a Unified Latent Space for Drug Repurposing Using Knowledge Graphs.

Drug repurposing or repositioning (DR) refers to finding new therapeutic applications for existing drugs. Current computational DR methods face data representation and negative data sampling challenges. Although retrospective studies attempt to operate various representations, it is a crucial step for an accurate prediction to aggregate these features and bring the associations between drugs and diseases into a unified latent space. In addition, the number of unknown associations between drugs and diseases, which is considered negative data, is much higher than the number of known associations

Comparison of three methods for measuring C0-1 angles and C0-2 angles.

BACKGROUND: The mutual compensatory relationship between the upper cervical sagittal alignment and the lower cervical sagittal alignment has been repeatedly reported. However, the evaluation of the upper cervical sagittal parameters are varied in previous studies. This retrospective study was performed to compare three methods for measuring the upper cervical sagittal parameters. METHODS: A total of 263 individuals with standing neutral lateral cervical radiographs were included in this study. The Frankfort horizontal line (FHL), foramen magnum line (FML), and McGregor line (ML) were separate

Microsporidium Keratitis After Hurricane Francine: A Case Report.

Microsporidial ocular infections are being increasingly reported, especially in temperate climates. In this case report, we describe five patients who presented to a private ophthalmology practice in Southeastern Louisiana in 2024, all within 3 months of Hurricane Francine landing. The patients' ages ranged from 5 to 23 and included two female and three male patients. All patients except one had exposure to contaminated water, and microsporidia were detected via PCR in all patients. Microsporidial keratoconjunctivitis was diagnosed based on typical clinical features. The patients were all effe

Bilateral steroid-induced glaucoma following monocular steroid therapy: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Following keratoplasty, the use of steroids is typically necessary to control postoperative inflammation and prevent graft rejection. However, improper management can lead to elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) and glaucoma. In our view, the use of topical steroid eye drops in one eye is unlikely to cause bilateral steroid-induced glaucoma. CASE PRESENTATION: An 18-year-old male with a history of keratoconus in both eyes and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) in the right eye. Postoperatively, the patient was prescribed 0.1% fluorometholone three times daily in the right e

Rapid Corneal Calcification Following Endothelial Keratoplasty: A Case Report.

Corneal calcification typically progresses slowly but can occasionally advance rapidly. This report details severe stromal calcification following repeat Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) in a 75-year-old patient with diabetes, hypertension, and prior ocular surgeries, including cataract surgery, intraocular lens extraction with suturing, and trabeculectomy. Persistent epithelial defects after the surgery led to rapid central stromal calcification within four weeks, significantly reducing visual acuity. Management included switching from betamethasone sodium phosp

Haze after photorefractive keratectomy caused by iatrogenic lagophthalmos.

A 22-year-old man had shortening of the levator muscle for a congenital blepharoptosis in the right eye in 2000. In September 2004, he was successfully treated by bilateral photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) for myopia and was asymptomatic with an uncorrected visual acuity of 20/20. In October 2005, right eye visual acuity decreased because of an inferiorly localized haze caused by nocturnal lagophthalmos. Fluorometholone eyedrops and lubrication induced full visual recovery after 2 months, but corresponding topographical abnormalities were only partially improved. Corneal exposure can induce h

[Peripheral ulcerative keratitis associated with dupilumab: a case report].

A 68-year-old male developed foreign body sensation in both eyes, photophobia and tearing in the right eye approximately 6 weeks after initiating dupilumab for severe atopic dermatitis. The right eye presented a crescent-shaped superficial-stromal ulcer in the peripheral cornea with an undermined edge, which was separated from the limbus of the cornea by a clear zone. The left eye had a pannus at the limbus of the cornea. Corneal scraping, bacterial culture, and fungal culture excluded infections. The patient was administered 0.1% fluorometholone eye drops and recombinant bovine basic fibrobla

A Case of Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis With Growth Hormone Deficiency.

Hormonal abnormalities are considered to play a role in the development of vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC). However, little is known whether about growth hormone (GH) is related to VKC development. The patient was an 11-year-old male with VKC treated with 0.1% betamethasone eye drops and 0.1% cyclosporin eye drops. The papillary growth of both superior and inferior palpebral conjunctiva worsened, and masses started to appear at the lower palpebral margin. He was referred to our hospital and was treated with 0.1% tacrolimus and 0.1% fluorometholone. Six weeks later, the condition improved rem

Diagnosis of steroid-induced elevated intraocular pressure and associated lamellar keratitis after laser in situ keratomileusis using optical coherence tomography.

A 52-year-old man had laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for treatment of a post-keratoplasty refractive error. At the 6-week postoperative visit, haziness was noted in the donor cornea and Snellen visual acuity had decreased to 20/400. Goldmann applanation tonometry revealed an intraocular pressure (IOP) of 2 mm Hg at the center of the cornea but an elevated IOP at the periphery. Visante optical coherence tomography (OCT) and corneal topography were performed, and steroid-induced lamellar keratitis (SILK) was diagnosed. Topical antiglaucoma medications were started, and steroid treatment wa

The inhibition of prostaglandin E1-induced corneal neovascularization by steroid eye drops.

The antiangiogenic activity of several steroid eye drops was evaluated in a PGE-induced corneal neovascularization. Pred-Forte (1% prednisolone acetate) and Maxidex (0.1% dexamethasone) were very effective in preventing neovascularization. Medroxyprogesterone acetate at 0.1% in Tears Naturale was moderately effective and fluorometholone was less effective in blocking neovascularization. Cortisone alone was not very effective; however, the addition of heparin greatly enhanced its inhibitory effect. PGE1 induced corneal neovascularization and increased the leukocytes infiltration. The applicatio
