On dairy farms covered by the ambulatory service of the Department of Farm Animal Health, 55 Holstein-Friesian cows with suspected ovarian follicular cysts on the basis of rectal palpation underwent confirmatory transrectal ultrasonography. An ovarian follicular cyst was confirmed in 28 cows (50.9%) and was treated by single transvaginal-guided needle aspiration. Cows with a corpus luteum or a luteinized cyst were not treated.
