Effects of Different Drying Methods on the Flavor Characteristics and Chemical Profile of Forsythia suspensa Flowers Using Electronic Sensors and Mass Spectrometry.

Forsythia suspensa flowers are a promising raw material for herbal infusions, but the effects of drying on their flavor and chemical composition remain unclear. Four drying methods, freeze-drying (FD), indoor shade drying (ID), sun drying (SD), and hot-air drying (HAD), were evaluated using an electronic nose, an electronic tongue, HS-GC-MS, LC-MS, sensory evaluation, and correlation analyses. Significant differences in aroma, taste, and overall acceptability scores were observed between drying treatments. HAD samples showed stronger sweetness, bitterness, and umami responses, whereas FD sampl

Genome‑wide identification of the NHX gene family in Forsythia identifies FsNHX3 and FsNHX6 as potential candidates involved in abiotic stress responses.

The Na ⁺ /H⁺ antiporter (NHX) gene family plays a central role in maintaining cellular ion homeostasis and responding to abiotic stress in plants. However, the systematic identification and functional characterization of this gene family in woody plants of the genus Forsythia remain unexplored. To address this, genome-wide identification and systematic comparative analysis of the NHX gene family were performed in three Forsythia species, Forsythia suspensa, F. viridissima, and F. ovata, with a focus on elucidating F. suspensa NHX gene expression under various types of stress: salt, drought (PE

Comparative Study of Thermal Accumulation and Adaptive Responses of Forsythia × intermedia Zabel and Kerria japonica (L.) DC. 'Pleniflora' Under Conditions of Climatic Fluctuations.

The study establishes a locally specific basis that may serve as an indicator for the selection of climate-adaptive taxa in urban landscape design through a comparative evaluation of the effects of thermal anomalies on the flowering phenodynamics of Forsythia × intermedia and Kerria japonica 'Pleniflora' in Belgrade (2007-2026). By integrating empirical phenological parameters into a long-term climatological retrospective, the study bridges a methodological gap and distinguishes anthropogenic influences from regional climatic fluctuations. Non-parametric analyses identified a stable long-term

Inflammatory responses of a macrophage/epithelial cell co-culture model to mono and mixed infections with Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola, and Tannerella forsythia.

Accumulated evidence points to Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola, and Tannerella forsythia as three major etiologic agents of chronic periodontitis. Epithelial cells and macrophages play a major role in the host response to periodontopathogens, and the secretion of inflammatory mediators and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) by these host cells is believed to contribute to periodontal tissue destruction. The aim of this study was to investigate the inflammatory response of a macrophage/epithelial cell co-culture model following mono or mixed infections with the above three periodont

Uncovering the bioactive constituents and their mechanisms of the Forsythiae Fructus against hyperpigmentation using a combined strategy integrating cell-specific extraction, plasma pharmaceutical chemistry and network pharmacology.

Skin hyperpigmentation is a type of difficult-to-treat disease that frequently results from the improper metabolism of facial pigment. The herb Forsythiae Fructus (FF) possesses whitening and freckle-removal properties. Its probable active components and anti-hyperpigmentation mechanism, however, are still unknown. In the current investigation, the active components were initially identified and screened by UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS/MS employing B16 cell-specific extraction and plasma pharmaceutical chemistry, respectively. Subsequently, the component-target-disease network and protein-protein int

Oral bacterium contributes to periodontal inflammation by forming advanced glycation end products.

The oral bacterium Tannerella forsythia is associated with periodontitis, an inflammatory disease affecting tooth-supporting tissues. The bacterium produces a dicarbonyl compound, methylglyoxal (MGO), whose levels correlate with the severity of periodontitis. MGO can induce inflammation directly or via the generation of glycation products called advanced glycation end products (AGEs). T. forsythia-produced MGO has been shown to cause tissue collagen glycation, which in turn can induce pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion in monocytes via receptor for advanced glycation end product (RAGE) recept
