Gallic acid and omega-3 fatty acids mitigate epididymal and testicular toxicity in manganese-treated rats.

Environmental contamination by manganese is correlated with diverse health outcomes plus reproductive dysfunction. Dietary gallic acid (GA) and omega-3 fatty acids (ω-3-FA) are well reported to elicit beneficial health effects. Though, information on GA and ω-3-FA effects on manganese-induced reproductive toxicity is absent in literature. We examined the effect of GA or ω-3-FA on manganese-induced epididymal and testicular toxicity in rats, exposed to manganese (15 mg/kg b.w.) alone, in combination with GA (30 mg/kg b.w.) or ω-3-FA (20 mg/kg b.w.) by gavage for 14 consecutive days. GA or ω-3-F

Gallic acid and omega-3 fatty acids decrease inflammatory and oxidative stress in manganese-treated rats.

Humans and animals are regularly exposed to toxic chemicals with subsequent adverse effects. Manganese exposure occurs via contaminated sources; over-exposure is associated with neuronal, hepatorenal dysfunction, etc. This work advances the field of natural chemopreventive agents by reporting evidence lacking in the literature on GA and ω-3-FA obtained primarily from the diet in protecting biological beings against toxic chemicals. Individually, GA and ω-3-FA exhibit various pharmacological effects. Our findings confirm the previous reports; however, we demonstrate the additional evidence for

Carbon Quantum Dots Interactions with Pyrogallol, Benzoic Acid, and Gallic Acid: A Study on Their Non-Covalent Nature.

Understanding the interactions between carbon quantum dots (CDs) and promising food preservatives (FPs), like pyrogallol (PG), benzoic acid (BA), and gallic acid (GA), is highly relevant. This knowledge is crucial for designing CD-based sensors capable of determining the safe levels of these molecules in food and beverages. Additionally, such sensors could be exploited in the development of sustainable, intelligent packaging that controls food shelf life. Based on those considerations, in this study, we post-functionalized blue-emitting CDs, prepared according to a synthetic approach previousl

Relative content of gallic acid over 5-galloylquinic acid as an index for the baking intensity of oolong teas.

Phenolic compounds in a series of old oolong teas prepared by baking annually were monitored and compared. The results showed that the relative content of gallic acid over 5-galloylquinic acid was subsequently elevated during this preparatory process. To reveal the effect was mainly resulted from baking or aging, two sets of oolong teas were collected and examined; one set was generated from fresh oolong tea via continually daily baking and the other set was composed of aged oolong teas with no or light baking in the storage period. The relative content of gallic acid over 5-galloylquinic acid

Quantification of amyloid-β aggregation inhibitors gallic acid and rosmarinic acid in biological samples by LC-MS/MS.

The decline of the cognitive functions encountered at patients diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease (AD) together with the findings of extracellular amyloid deposits, intracellular neurofibrillary tangles and microvascular angiopathy in brain were described at beginning of the 20th century. According to the amyloid cascade hypothesis, the overproduction of amyloid-β peptide and its aggregation into neurotoxic oligomers, fibrils, and amyloid plaques is considered the cause of AD. Amyloid-β fibril formation was experimentally proven in vitro using thioflavin T assay in the absence of interfering c

Novel detection method for gallic acid: A water soluble boronic acid-based fluorescent sensor with double recognition sites.

As one of the widespread phenols in nature, gallic acid (GA) has attracted a subject of attention due to its extensive biological properties. It is very important and significant to develop a sensitive and selective gallic acid sensor. In recent years, owing to their reversible covalent binding with Lewis bases and polyols, boronic acid compounds have been widely reported as fluorescence sensors for the identification of carbohydrates, ions and hydrogen peroxide, etc. However, boronic acid sensors for specific recognition of gallic acid have not been reported. Herein, a novel water-soluble bor

Gallic acid chemoprevention of oral carcinogenesis is associated with HSD11β2 upregulation and immune remodeling.

Naturally derived phytochemicals such as gallic acid (GA) exhibit multitargeted anticancer properties and favorable safety profiles, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying their chemopreventive effects in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remain incompletely defined. Using a 4-nitroquinoline-1-oxide (4NQO)-induced oral carcinogenesis mouse model, we evaluated GA's effects on tumor progression, immune modulation, and stress-hormone-related pathways. Phenotypic outcomes were assessed by histopathology, proliferation markers, and in vitro cytotoxicity assays. Transcriptomic changes w

Research on antioxidant performance of diglucosyl gallic acid and its application in emulsion cosmetics.

OBJECTIVE: Diglucosyl gallic acid is a whitening active with powerful whitening function. When it acts on human skin, microorganisms on the skin surface and part of the stratum corneum produce α-glucosidase to sever the glucose bond of diglucosyl gallic acid, thereby converting part of diglucosyl gallic acid into gallic acid, acting on the skin and exerting the excellent effects of diglucosyl gallic acid and gallic acid at the same time. Diglucosyl gallic acid has high stability and water solubility, it can reduce free radical generation, inhibit tyrosinase generation, prevent melanin transfer

The Evolving Therapeutic Landscape of Gallic Acid: A Review of Mechanistic Insights and Clinical Potential.

Gallic acid (GA), a plant-derived phenolic compound, is evolving from a general antioxidant into a specific molecular modulator and a functional building block for advanced biomedical materials. This review synthesizes recent insights underpinned by GA's "redox duality"-its capacity to act as either a radical scavenger or a pro-oxidant. In metabolic disorders, GA reprograms cellular machinery by modulating the miR-709/Nrf2 axis, enhancing LDL clearance via LDLR/PCSK9, and targeting the incretin system. In oncology, GA exhibits context-dependent toxicity, acting as a selective pro-oxidant to in

Gallic acid: a dietary metabolite's therapeutic potential in the management of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) causes significant morbidity and mortality globally. Most of the chemicals specifically target certain pathways and minimally impact other diseases associated with ASCVD. Moreover, interactions of these drugs can cause toxic reactions. Consequently, the exploration of multi-targeted and safe medications for treating and preventing ASCVD has become an increasingly popular trend. Gallic acid (GA), a natural secondary metabolite found in various fruits, plants, and nuts, has demonstrated potentials in preventing and treating ASCVD, in addition to its

Enhanced degradation of chloramphenicol via heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate by Fe3O4 and gallic acid.

In this study, we demonstrated the effective degradation of wide-spectrum antibiotic chloramphenicol (CAP) by Fe3O4/peroxymonosulfate (PMS) system modified by gallic acid (GA). GA/Fe3O4/PMS showed a substantially higher degradation rate (77.6%) than Fe3O4/PMS (8.3%). The active components were detected by electron spin-resonance spectroscopy (ESR) and the quenching experiments. The results showed that the hydroxyl radical (HO•) was the main reason for the degradation of CAP. In the GA/Fe3O4/PMS system, the trace amount of dissolved iron ion were not the main species that activated PMS. Surface

Gallic Acid Is an Antagonist of Semen Amyloid Fibrils That Enhance HIV-1 Infection.

Recent in vitro studies have demonstrated that amyloid fibrils found in semen from healthy and HIV-infected men, as well as semen itself, can markedly enhance HIV infection rates. Semen fibrils are made up of multiple naturally occurring peptide fragments derived from semen. The best characterized of these fibrils are SEVI (semen-derived enhancer of viral infection), made up of residues 248-286 of prostatic acidic phosphatase, and the SEM1 fibrils, made up of residues 86-107 of semenogelin 1. A small molecule screen for antagonists of semen fibrils identified four compounds that lowered semen-
