Fire resistance, antibacterial and UV to blue light blocking highly transparent cellulose films enabled by gardenia yellow/phosphorylated chitosan synergistic networks.

The integration of multiple functionalities into a single material system, while simultaneously ensuring sustainable processing and high transparency, remains a critical challenge in materials design. Herein, a multifunctional cellulose film is developed through a supramolecular engineering strategy that orchestrates the synergistic interplay of carboxymethylated cellulose, gardenia yellow (GY), and phosphorylated chitosan (PCS). The process involves alkali/urea assisted regeneration of cellulose into hydrogel matrix, followed by incorporation of a pre-assembled GY-PCS complex. The resulting f

Larval Cytotoxic and Subacute Toxicity of Gardenia ternifolia, Rourea coccinea, and Cassytha filiformis Used in Traditional Medicine of Benin (West Africa).

The use of medicinal plants in traditional medicine is a common practice in developing countries. However, this unregulated or irrational use may pose a risk of toxicity to humans in the short and/or long term. Recent studies reported interesting ethnopharmacological, antioxidant, and phytochemical data on some medicinal plants used in the traditional treatment of male infertility in Benin. Unfortunately, very little data exist on the long-repeated dose toxicity of these medicinal plants. This study was aimed at evaluating the larval cytotoxicity and subacute toxicity of the hydroethanolic ext

Gardenia jasminoides extract ameliorates DfE-induced atopic dermatitis in mice through restoration of barrier function and T-helper 2-mediated immune response.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) leads to skin barrier abnormalities and immune dysfunction. As the topical steroids commonly used to treat AD have side effects from long-term use, research into safer treatments for AD is greatly needed. The medicinal herb Gardenia jasminoides improves AD symptoms via skin barrier activation and T helper 2-mediated immune response regulation. Crocin, a bioactive component within the extract, is dispensible for its restorative effects. As such, this work explored the effects of Gardenia jasminoides extract without crocin (GjexCr) on AD symptoms in a DfE-induced AD model
