Over a 1.5-year postoperative period, surface precipitates were observed on hydrogel intraocular lenses (IOLs) by specular microscopy. In eyes with prolonged postoperative inflammation, a higher number of cells was observed. In these cases, the cells remained on the IOL surface for a longer period. Granulomatous interstitial nephritis (NIG) is a rare form of interstitial nephritis that can be related to acute or chronic clinical presentation. Two cases of lymphadenopathy resulting from a lymph node foreign body reaction to silicone are presented. Light microscopy was used to study postcesarean section uterine scars removed at resurgery and rat urine tissues after myometrial scar simulation. The myometrial scar tissue of 1 of 30 patients and 4 of 42 experimental animals exhibited vicryl suture material remains surrounded by a connective tissue capsule and, frequently, infiltrated leukocytes and giant cells of foreign bodies. It is not inconceivable that the presence of these foreign bodies in the tissues of the uterus and its scar may lower the strength of the wall of this organ during pregnancy and labor.

This report describes an uncommon granulomatous foreign body reaction that developed after lateral sinus augmentation with deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM). The patient presented 5 months postoperatively with an extraoral draining fistula and intraoral swelling that failed to resolve with multiple courses of antibiotics and was initially misdiagnosed as a chronic infection.
