Rat Model of Cystic Neutrophilic Granulomatous Mastitis by Corynebacterium Kroppenstedtii.

BACKGROUND: Cystic neutrophilic granulomatous mastitis (CNGM) poses a significant threat to the physical and mental health of women due to its increasing incidence, complex clinical manifestations. Developing an appropriate animal model will help further study the pathogenesis of CNGM. METHODS: Seventy-two rats were randomly assigned to seven groups: group A (n=12, tissue suspension 0.2mL), group B (n=12, 1×10^8 CFU/mL Corynebacterium kroppenstedtii (CK) suspension 0.1mL), group C (n=12, 1×10^9 CFU/mL CK suspension 0.1mL), group D (n=12, tissue suspension 0.1mL + 1×10^8 CFU/mL CK suspension 0

Granulomatous mastitis, erythema nodosum, and arthritis syndrome: a narrative review.

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is a rare chronic inflammatory breast disease of unknown etiology, typically presenting with breast pain, swelling, and mass formation. Erythema nodosum (EN) is an inflammatory panniculitis that can occur as a systemic manifestation of various conditions, and arthritis has occasionally been observed alongside granulomatous mastitis (GM), suggesting an underlying autoimmune component. This narrative review synthesizes reported cases of GM with EN, with or without arthritis-termed "GMENA" syndrome-to characterize its clinical features and man

Clinical features and risk factors of bilateral granulomatous lobular mastitis.

Granulomatous lobular mastitis (GLM) is an idiopathic inflammatory breast disease that tends to recur on the same side. With the accumulation of clinical cases, it has been observed that GLM can also occur contralaterally. Currently, most studies on GLM focus on treatment methods and risk factors for ipsilateral recurrence, and there are few reports on bilateral GLM. The study aimed to summarize the clinical characteristics of patients with bilateral GLM by reviewing their clinical data, and to discuss the risk factors affecting the occurrence of bilateral GLM. A retrospective study of the med

Factors Affecting Recurrence of Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis: A Systematic Review.

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis is a rare and benign disease that primarily affects young women of reproductive age. Various factors have been suggested as possible causes, including pregnancy, breastfeeding, history of taking birth control pills, hyperprolactinemia, smoking, and history of trauma. Due to unknown etiology, opinions on its treatment have varied, resulting in differing recurrence rates and side effects. Therefore, conducting a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis can aid in understanding the causes and recurrence of the disease, thereby assisting in the selection

Granulomatous Mastitis With Erythema Nodosum During Pregnancy: A Case Report.

Granulomatous mastitis is a rare benign disease that typically occurs in parous women. Some reports have described cases of erythema nodosum appearing following granulomatous mastitis, which is often treated with steroids. Here, we report a case of granulomatous mastitis with erythema nodosum successfully treated via drainage only, which may have been caused by the higher plasma cortisol levels observed during pregnancy. Although mastitis is rare during pregnancy, the current case suggests that granulomatous mastitis should be considered in pregnant women with treatment-resistant mastitis, esp

Cystic Neutrophilic Granulomatous Mastitis Treatment with Consecutive Dapsone and Adalimumab.

Cystic neutrophilic granulomatous mastitis is a rarely reported, benign, mastitis that is not associated with lactation. The pathophysiology is still unknown; however, there is often a relationship with Corynebacterium kroppenstedtii. Cystic neutrophilic mastitis can have deep seated tender nodules and cutaneous ulceration which can clinically resemble pyoderma gangrenous. It can be treatment refractory and can progress to a point where mastectomy is required. This case series reports two patients treated with adalimumab with remission of disease. One patient first received dapsone with remiss

[Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis associated with erythema nodosum: a case report].

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IMD) is a chronic benign inflammatory disease of the breast which can mimic breast cancer. It is more common in young women of childbearing age and poses a challenge in diagnosis of inflammatory breast tumor. We report the case of a 26-year-old female patient who presented with inflammatory breast. Clinical examination showed apyretic patient with edematized and painless irregular smooth mass in the left breast measuring 4 cm surmounted by crusts and multiples fistulizing scars discharging pus by applying pressure, with mobile ipsilateral axillary adenopathy.

Granulomatous mastitis, erythema nodosum and arthritis syndrome: case-based review.

Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a rare form of inflammatory breast condition associated with unilateral or bilateral breast pain, swelling and mass formation. Although the disease pathogenesis remains unknown, several reports have associated GM with manifestations such as erythema nodosum and occasionally with arthritis, suggesting that GM might have an autoimmune disease component. We aim to describe two cases of coexistence of GM, erythema nodosum, and arthritis. We also conducted a literature review to comprehensively assess and describe the characteristics of patients with GM, erythema nodo

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis mimicking breast cancer: report of two cases.

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis is a rare inflammatory breast disease of unknown aetiology that is frequently mistaken for breast carcinoma both clinically and mammographically. In this paper, the authors report two cases of idiopathic granulomatous mastitis that occurred in two parous women aged 38 and 45 years. Clinically, both patients presented with a tender palpable lump in the left breast. Mammography showed an poorly-defined mass in both patients with microcalcification in the first case and skin retraction in the second case. Breast lumpectomy was performed in both patients. Granulomatous mastitis caused by histoplasma and mimicking inflammatory breast carcinoma.

Two cases of a lobular, necrotizing granulomatous process causing a unilateral painful breast mass mimicking carcinoma are presented for comparison. While the morphologic appearance in each case was that of lobular granulomatous mastitis, the etiologic agent in one case appeared to be Histoplasma capsulatum, based on Grocott methenamine silver staining, and represents the second reported case of histoplasmosis involving only breast parenchyma. Awareness of the rare entity, granulomatous mastitis, is important for the pathologist because the definitive diagnosis is made microscopically. Thoroug

PTX3 promotes macrophage efferocytosis and inflammation resolution in granulomatous mastitis.

Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is an inflammatory breast disease. Pentraxin 3 (PTX3) is frequently dysregulated in inflammatory diseases. C. parakroppenstedtii. infection was applied to establish a rat GM model. Histological analysis showed that the progression of GM was accompanied with the damage of DECs. The serum and mRNA levels and protein expression of PTX3 was increased in GM rat models. PTX3 overexpression drove macrophage to M2 macrophage polarization, inhibiting inflammation response. PTX3 overexpression promoted clearance of apoptotic mammary duct epithelial cells (DECs) by M2 macropha

Microbiological characteristics of granulomatous lobular mastitis revealed by metagenomic sequencing.

AIMS: Granulomatous lobular mastitis (GLM) is a rare, chronic, benign inflammatory disease of the breast with an unclear aetiology. This study aimed to characterise the microbial features of GLM using metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) and to provide potentially relevant microbial clues for clinical evaluation. METHODS: Twenty fresh lesion tissue samples were collected from 15 female patients with GLM, including one representative sample per patient and five additional deep tissue samples. Clinical data collection, mNGS, bioinformatics analysis and data interpretation were performe

Granulomatous mastitis: A diagnostic challenge-3 year single institutional experience.

BACKGROUND: Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is often clinico-radiologically misdiagnosed as breast malignancy. Tuberculosis, foreign body reactions, fungal and parastic infections, and autoimmune diseases can cause GM. The present study aimed to assess the spectrum of GM on fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) smears along with its histopathological and clinico-radiological findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: It was a retrospective study which included all cases of GM diagnosed on FNAB over a period of 3 years. The histopathological diagnosis was retrieved, wherever possible. All the FNA smears and

18 F-FDG PET/CT Imaging of Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis.

A 43-year-old woman, who presented with a suspected left breast abscess, underwent serial ultrasounds, which demonstrated inflammatory changes that were nonresponsive to antibiotics and which spread to the contralateral breast. 18 F-FDG PET/CT demonstrated diffuse heterogeneous intense FDG uptake in both breasts with reactive axillary nodes. Breast biopsy confirmed granulomatous inflammation, and overall findings were consistent with idiopathic granulomatous mastitis. In the absence of histological analysis, idiopathic granulomatous mastitis is an important differential diagnosis to consider f
