Growth charts of heights and weights of male children and adolescents of Isfahan, Iran.

Measurements of height and weight are important data source relating to growth and development, puberty, and nutritional status of children and adolescents. In clinical setting, the charts of the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), USA, are used in Iran. A survey identified significant differences in weight- and height-for-age across provinces, between urban and rural children. Although the percentiles derived from data of the national health survey, in 1990-1992, were substantially below the NCHS charts, the growth patterns were parallel to the NCHS percentiles. In 1997, an anthropo

At-home wearable measurements provide detailed growth charts of infant early gross motor development.

Early gross motor performance is a key component of neurodevelopmental assessments, and longitudinal follow-ups in personalized health care need better objective methods for measuring it. We studied how the detailed characteristics of infants' gross motor development could be modeled with age-normative growth charts. We performed serial at-home measurements (total of 580 measurements, 1227 hours of free playtime) from a cohort of 92 typically developing infants at 4 to 19 months of age, using wearable suits with four movement sensors. A previously developed and validated, fully automated analy

NF1-Specific Growth Charts for Head Circumference Over the First 3 Years of Life.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Macrocephaly is among the most common findings in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and may be associated with other clinical manifestations of the genetic syndrome. NF1-specific growth charts that account for expected macrocephaly may increase sensitivity for detecting atypical growth. We aimed to produce NF1-specific growth charts of head circumference for the age range of 0-3 years and to assess their potential clinical impact. METHODS: Using electronic health records from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, we collected head circumference measurements from chi

Prenatal prediction of adverse outcome using different charts and definitions of fetal growth restriction.

OBJECTIVE: Antenatal growth assessment using ultrasound aims to identify small fetuses that are at higher risk of perinatal morbidity and mortality. This study explored whether the association between suboptimal fetal growth and adverse perinatal outcome varies with different definitions of fetal growth restriction (FGR) and different weight charts/standards. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study of 17 261 singleton non-anomalous pregnancies at ≥ 24 + 0 weeks' gestation that underwent routine ultrasound at a tertiary referral hospital. Estimated fetal weight (EFW) and Doppler indices

Categorizing weight growth of infants born before 32 weeks' gestation using the 2023 postnatal growth charts for preterm infants.

OBJECTIVE: To categorize growth and correlate growth categories with morbidities in infants born before 32 weeks of gestation. STUDY DESIGN: This retrospective study categorized weight growth by correlating mean growth velocity (GV) with growth trajectory z-score changes ( Δ G T Z ), as measured using 2023 Postnatal Growth Charts for Preterm Infants. The associations between weight categories and morbidities were assessed. RESULTS: Weight gain of infants without morbidities was categorized into three groups based on correlating Δ G T Z with mean GV: slower ( Δ G T Z  < -0.1), in-parallel ( Δ

Identification of the optimal growth chart and threshold for the prediction of antepartum stillbirth.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of the choice growth chart and threshold used to define small for gestational age (SGA) on the predictive value of SGA for placenta-related or unexplained antepartum stillbirth. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of all women with a singleton pregnancy who gave birth > 24 week gestation in a single center (2000-2016). The exposure of interest was SGA, defined as birth weight < 10th or < 25th centile according to three fetal growth charts (Hadlock et al., Radiology 181:129-133, 1991; intergrowth-21st (IG21), WHO 2017, and a Canadian birthweight-based referenc

Extrauterine growth restriction in very low birth weight infants according to different growth charts: A retrospective 10 years observational study.

BACKGROUND: Extrauterine growth restriction (EUGR) is common among very low birth weight (VLBW) infants and associated with poor neurodevelopmental outcomes. There are two types of EUGR definitions (cross-sectional and longitudinal) and many growth charts for monitoring postnatal growth. Aims of our study were 1) to compare the rate of small for gestational rate (SGA) and EUGR in a population of VLBW infants, both according to different growth charts (Fenton, INeS charts and Intergrowth-21) and different definitions; 2) to identify risk factors for EUGR. METHODS: This is a single centre retro

Customized charts and their role in identifying pregnancies at risk because of fetal growth restriction.

Customized growth charts reduce complexity in antenatal care for the expectant mother and her clinicians by improving the distinction between physiological and pathological variation in fetal size. Their application in large databases has improved our understanding of the importance of intrauterine growth restriction and its antenatal recognition. Their implementation into clinical practice, together with the appropriate training and referral protocols, has been shown to reduce the risk of stillbirth.

Revised birth centiles for weight, length and head circumference in the UK-WHO growth charts.

BACKGROUND: The adoption in May 2009 by the UK of the WHO 2006 standard necessitated the provision of UK-based birth centiles for pre-term infants. The pre-existing British 1990 reference birth centiles, used in the UK since 1995, had been biased by the inclusion of post-natal data. AIM: To describe the construction of new UK birth centiles for weight, length and head circumference, based on British 1990 reference data, but excluding post-natal data. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Birth data from the five original studies, collected between 1983-1993, were pooled and analysed by the LMS method, for t

Comparison of Size Determination Using Fenton and World Health Organization Growth Charts in Term Infants.

OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that classification as small for gestational age (SGA), appropriate for gestational age (AGA), or large for gestational age (LGA) among term infants would systematically differ between Fenton and World Health Organization (WHO) and that these differences would impact clinical care regarding postnatal glucose screening. METHODS: All infants born over 3 years (1/1/2020-12/31/2022) between 37-0/7 and 41-6/7-weeks gestational age in one rural, one suburban, or one urban hospital affiliated with an academic medical system in central North Carolina were included.

Sex non-specific growth charts and potential clinical implications in the care of transgender youth.

INTRODUCTION: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) created separate growth charts for girls and boys because growth patterns and rates differ between sexes. However, scenarios exist in which this dichotomizing "girls versus boys" approach may not be ideal, including the care of non-binary youth or transgender youth undergoing transitions consistent with their gender identity. There is therefore a need for growth charts that age smooth differences in pubertal timing between sexes to determine how youth are growing as "children" versus "girls o

The impact of different growth charts on birthweight prediction: obstetrical ultrasound vs magnetic resonance imaging.

BACKGROUND: The estimation of fetal weight by fetal magnetic resonance imaging is a simple and rapid method with a high sensitivity in predicting birthweight in comparison with ultrasound. Several national and international growth charts are currently in use, but there is substantial heterogeneity among these charts due to variations in the selected populations from which they were derived, in methodologies, and in statistical analysis of data. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the performance of magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound for the prediction of birthweight using 3 commonly

Predictive ability of fetal growth charts in identifying kindergarten-age developmental challenges: a cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine recommends defining fetal growth restriction as an estimated fetal weight or abdominal circumference <10th percentile of a population-based reference. However, because multiple references are available, an understanding of their ability to identify infants at increased risk due to fetal growth restriction is critical. Previous studies have focused on the ability of different population references to identify short-term outcomes, but fetal growth restriction also has longer-term consequences for child development. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed
