Health Belief Model-Based Education to Improve Water Intake and Hydration in Older Adults: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

PURPOSE: The current randomized controlled trial examined the effects of Health Belief Model (HBM)-based education on daily water intake, hydration biomarkers, thirst discomfort, and dry eye complaints in older adults. METHOD: Eighty community-dwelling older adults aged ≥65 years with insufficient daily water intake (<1 L/day) were screened and randomly assigned to intervention (n = 40) and control (n = 40) groups. Eligibility was determined using predefined inclusion criteria and baseline assessments. The intervention included individualized HBM-based education supported by a booklet and int

Early warning indicator system for adolescent student mental health: theoretical construction of the relationship-belief-process-state model.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent mental health problems are rising, but existing early warning systems are limited by shallow theory, poor cultural fit, and static risk-factor approaches. AIM: To construct a philosophically grounded, culturally adapted early warning indicator system for adolescent mental health in China. METHODS: Based on two core propositions of Marxist humanism: "the essence of man is the ensemble of social relations" and "free, conscious activity is the species-character of man," we developed the Relational Characteristics-Activity Beliefs-Congruent Process-Polar States (5R-5B-5P-5

Cognitive determinants of cervical cancer screening behavior among housewife women in Iran: An application of Health Belief Model.

Our aim in this cross-sectional study was to assess the cognitive determinants of Cervical Cancer Screening Behavior (CCSB) among housewife women in Islamabad County, Iran. Through multistage random sampling we recruited and interviewed 280 housewife women. The women who perceived more benefits of performing the Pap test (OR = 1.11), and perceived fewer barriers (OR = 0.915), and higher self-efficacy to perform the test (OR = 1.12) were more likely to have a CCSB in the previous three years. Our findings are informative for the development of targeted interventions to foster CCSB among housewi

Using the health belief model to predict those seeking treatment for Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder among premenopausal women.

OBJECTIVE: Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) was the most common subtype of female sexual dysfunction; however, little was known about why Chinese women with HSDD were willing to seek medical help. This study aimed to identify predictive factors of seeking treatment for HSDD. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 260 outpatient premenopausal women who met the DSM-IV-TR criteria for HSDD for at least 6 months were recruited. All cases were divided into groups of willing to be treated and unwilling to be treated. The main outcome measures in this study were the Sexual Desire Relationship Distress Scale

A Health Belief Model-Social Learning Theory approach to adolescents' fertility control: findings from a controlled field trial.

We evaluated an 8- to 12-hour Health Belief Model-Social Learning Theory (HBM-SLT)-based sex education program against several community- and school-based interventions in a controlled field experiment. Data on sexual and contraceptive behavior were collected from 1,444 adolescents unselected for gender, race/ethnicity, or virginity status in a pretest-posttest design. Over 60% completed the one-year follow-up. Multivariate analyses were conducted separately for each preintervention virginity status by gender grouping. The results revealed differential program impacts. First, for preinterventi

Combining unequal variance signal detection theory with the health belief model to optimize shared decision making in tinnitus patients: part 1-model development.

INTRODUCTION: The results from different Cochrane studies justify considerable professional equipoise concerning different treatment options for tinnitus. In case of professional equipoise, Shared Decision Making (SDM) is an indispensable tool for guiding patients to the intervention that best fits their needs. To improve SDM we developed a method to assess the accuracy and utility of decisions made by tinnitus patients when freely choosing between different treatment options during their patient journey. The different treatment options were audiological care and psychosocial counseling. METH

Enhancing Cardiovascular Health in Southeastern United States for Underrepresented Racial and Ethnic Minorities With HIV: A Qualitative Inquiry Using the Health Belief Model.

People with HIV from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic minority (URM) groups are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Guided by the health belief model, we conducted in-depth interviews with URM with HIV, established CVD, and CVD risk factors at three academic medical centers in the Southern United States between November 2019 and March 2020. We analyzed the data using applied thematic analysis. A total of 27 participants were interviewed, and most were African American. Participants described their HIV status as a contributing factor to perceived severity of CVD. B

Using the Health Belief Model to Examine Parental Knowledge and Health Beliefs About Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and iHPV Vaccine in Kuwait: Cross-Sectional Survey Study.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer (CC) is a major public health issue, accounting for approximately 350,000 deaths, around 7.5% of all female cancer deaths worldwide, in 2018. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common virus infecting the reproductive system. Despite the high number of diagnosed cases of CC globally, prevention is possible. Vaccination against HPV is considered to be a primary prevention strategy, while cervical screening can also play a secondary prevention role. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the knowledge and health beliefs of parents in Kuwait towards HPV and HPV vac

Assessing Parental Understanding and Perspectives on Vitamin A Supplementation for Children: A Quantitative Study using the Health Belief Model.

BACKGROUND: Vitamin A deficiency contributes to preventable blindness and child morbidity in developing countries. While Vitamin A supplementation (VAS) is effective, parental perceptions influence adherence. Unsafe sexual practice and associated factors among adolescents in secondary schools in Gambella town, Ethiopia: a health belief model.

BACKGROUND: Unsafe sexual practices among adolescents represent a significant public health challenge due to their association with increased risk of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, and unintended pregnancies. The burden remains substantial, contributing to adverse health outcomes, educational disruption and long-term socio-economic consequences. Multiple factors like inadequate sexual health knowledge, limited access to youth-friendly services, low utilisation of preventive methods, and social and behavioural determinants such as peer pressure, substance use, early sexual init

Health belief model-based determinants of women's participation in cervical cancer screening: a case-control study from Southeastern Turkey.

BACKGROUND: In line with the World Health Organization's elimination targets, HPV‑DNA-based cervical cancer screening is the standard; however, screening uptake remains suboptimal in many settings. To assess, in a centre implementing Türkiye's national cancer screening standards, the relationship between women's screening status and a Health Belief Model (HBM)-based, 19‑item attitude scale; and to provide clear, practice‑oriented findings on screening behaviour. METHODS: In a case-control design, women aged 30-65 years were studied (November-December 2024). A total of 210 participants (1:1 sc

Breast Cancer Knowledge, Perception and Breast Self- Examination Practices among Yemeni Women: an Application of the Health Belief Model.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of breast cancer is rapidly increasing in Yemen with recent indications of constituting one-third of female cancers. The main problem in Yemen remains very late presentation of breast cancer, most of which should have been easily recognisable. Since stage of disease at diagnosis is the most important prognostic variable, early diagnosis is an important option to be considered for control of breast cancer in low resourced settings like Yemen. In the present study, we aimed at describing breast cancer knowledge, perceptions and breast self-examination (BSE) practices am
