Quality and Readability of Online Health Resources for Hidradenitis Suppurativa: A Cross-Sectional Analysis.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) or acne inversa is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterised by painful nodules that significantly diminish quality of life. Patients diagnosed with HS commonly utilise online resources to gain insight into their condition. This study aimed to assess the readability, quality and relevance of 115 online HS resources found via Google. It was found that most of the websites exceeded the recommended 6th-grade reading level, with the average being around the 11th-grade level. JAMA and DISCERN criteria were used to assess the quality of the resources, which re

Prevalent fecal contamination in drinking water resources and potential health risks in Swat, Pakistan.

Fecal bacteria contaminate water resources and result in associated waterborne diseases. This study assessed drinking water quality and evaluated their potential health risks in Swat, Pakistan. Ground and surface drinking water were randomly collected from upstream to downstream in the River Swat watershed and analyzed for fecal contamination using fecal indicator bacteria (Escherichia coli) and physiochemical parameters (potential of hydrogen, turbidity, temperature, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solid, color, odor and taste). The physiochemical parameters were within their safe li

The Goldilocks Quandary of Health Care Resources: Too Little, Too Much, or Just Right?

Appropriate use of health care resources is a priority for improving the quality of care. Overutilization affects almost all specialties including obstetrics and gynecology. Initiatives such as the Choosing Wisely campaign and the Joint Commission Perinatal Care Measures have brought attention to issues of overuse. The decision of these campaigns to focus on eliminating nonmedically indicated inductions before 39 weeks of gestation is an example of how more appropriate health care use can reduce complications and save millions of dollars. Cesarean delivery, hysterectomy, and prophylactic oopho

Hostility and ill health: role of psychosocial resources in two contexts of working life.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which increased risk to health problems in hostile employees is associated with psychosocial resources and life context. METHODS: Social relationships, job control, and sickness absence were assessed among 757 hostile and nonhostile municipal employees in two life contexts: during a stressful organizational downsizing; and during a period after the downsizing. The follow-up time was 550 person-years for men and 1677 person-years for women during the period of downsizing, and 519 person-years for men and 1568 person-years for wo

Driving the Development of Innovative Digital Health: Creating Open Access Co-Design Training Resources.

Co-design describes the adoption of methods which actively involve a broad range of stakeholders throughout the design process. Research suggests that co-design is vital for the successful development of complex health innovations, including those in digital health. Although the benefits of co-design in digital health are evident, there is limited open-access and accessible training to support the continued development of a range of professionals to co-design for digital health. In this paper, we outline the launch of a suite of open access resources created by our multidisciplinary team to su

Mussels as sustainable marine resources for bioactive peptides for health and the food industry.

The growing need for sustainable protein sources has led to increased interest in marine-based alternatives, particularly those with bioactive properties. Mussels, known for their abundance and environmental sustainability, have gained attention as potential sources for bioactive peptides (BAPs). This review focuses on the current research surrounding BAPs derived from marine mussels, exploring their applications in human health and the food industry. Through a comprehensive analysis of the existing literature, the review discusses the ecological significance of mussels, their nutritional valu

The Community Paramedicine at Clinic Program: Improving Participant Health while Preserving Healthcare System Resources.

Vulnerable populations such as low-income older adults in social housing suffer from poor quality of life and are impacted by chronic diseases. These populations are also high users of emergency services, which contribute to high healthcare costs. Community-based, patient-centred interventions, such as community paramedicine (CP) programs, can address the healthcare gaps for these underserved populations. Community Paramedicine at Clinic (CP@clinic) is an innovative, evidence-based, chronic disease prevention/management program that improves patient health and quality of life, connects them wi

Leveraging Delaware's Public Health Resources to Mitigate Spread of Communicable Diseases in Congregate Settings.

While resources available to public health entities increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to focus mitigation efforts on Delaware's most vulnerable citizens was evident. The higher risk of community-spread and complications resulting from COVID-19 associated with individuals residing in congregate settings such as homeless shelters and encampments prompted the Delaware Division of Public Health to leverage existing and new resources to provide technical assistance, education and to build valuable partnerships with community-based homeless service providers to reduce the public healt

Family Stressors and Resources as Social Determinants of Health among Caregivers and Young Children.

Life course-informed theories of development suggest it is important to integrate information about positive and negative aspects of the social environment into studies of child and parental wellbeing, including both stressors that compromise health and resources that promote well-being. We recruited a sample of 169 pairs of caregivers and young children (birth to 5 years) from a community health clinic and administered survey questions to assess stressors and resources. We constructed inventories of stressors and resources and examined the relationships between these inventories and caregiver

Workplace Phobic Anxiety as a Mental Health Phenomenon in the Job Demands-Resources Model.

PURPOSE: Anxiety-related problems at work are a serious problem in the occupational context, as they come along with sick leave and problems in work participation. The aim of this study is to analyse workplace phobic anxiety in nonclinical context using the Job Demands-Resources model. METHODS: The study involved a sample of 739 workers from a retail company, mostly with permanent contracts. Structural equation modelling analyses were performed using AMOS software. RESULTS: Both the health impairment and motivational variables in the JD-R model were significantly related to workplace phobic

[Laboral health in Penitentiary Center of Chile: a look from policies of human resources].

This article examines the influence of human resources policies on occupational health variables, such as engagement and job satisfaction, with regard to Chilean prison employees. 80 workers at the Women's Prison of Iquique were evaluated and results show that 77% and 88 % have a moderate to high score in terms of engagement and job satisfaction respectively. The 24% variation in engagement of the workers studied can be explained by policies aimed at promoting personal interests, while 32% of the variation in job satisfaction could be explained by policies of self-efficacy and personal interes

Outcomes from the Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health (REACH) program for bereaved caregivers.

Although preventive efforts for bereaved individuals have not been shown to be particularly effective in past studies, it has been suggested that intervention effects might be underestimated due to methodological issues such as short follow-up assessments. Thus, the present study aimed to assess the efficacy (as whole intervention packages and as component parts) of the Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health (REACH) interventions in preventing complicated grief, normal grief, and depressive symptoms at a longer term follow-up assessment among bereaved caregivers (N = 224).
