State-level contraceptive access policies and preventive sexual and reproductive health service use outcomes.

OBJECTIVE: Contraceptive access provides opportunity for related preventive health care. Thus, we explore whether changes in state contraceptive access policies relate to preventive health service use inequities. STUDY DESIGN: We examined associations between a 2006-2017 state contraceptive access policy index and probabilities of individual-level receipt of pelvic exam, Pap test, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) services during the last year, as reported during time-corresponding cycles of the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG). We used multivariate logistic regression and linea

Sexual and reproductive health experiences, access to services, and sources of information among university students in Ethiopia.

INTRODUCTION: Adolescence and youth are times of major growth and change that can place young people at elevated risk of poor sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes, particularly when they are living away from home for the first time. Understanding the barriers that young people face when accessing SRH services and information is imperative for addressing their SRH needs; our study explored this topic among university students in Ethiopia. Specifically, we explore university students' SRH experiences, access to services, and preferred sources of information. METHODS: We draw on mixed-m

Patient Experiences and Provider Perspectives on Accessing Gender-Affirming Surgical Services in the Veterans Health Administration.

BACKGROUND: Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) veterans have a greater prevalence of suicide morbidity and mortality than cisgender veterans. Gender-affirming surgery (GAS) has been shown to improve mental health for TGD veterans. In 2021, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) announced the initiation of a rulemaking process to cover GAS for TGD patients. OBJECTIVE: This study explores patients' and providers' perspectives about access to GAS and other gender-affirming medical interventions not offered in the VHA including barriers, facilitators, and clinical and policy recommendations.

Opportunities to expand access to mental health services: A case for the role of online peer support communities.

This study investigated whether with disruptions in care due to the COVID-19 pandemic, persons who self-identified as living with a mental health condition increased their usage of an online peer support community. We also explored whether study participants who self-reported usage of online peer support communities were interested in using these communities to connect with evidence-based interventions and mental health services. This study employed a cross-sectional online survey design. The survey was disseminated by the Inspire online peer support community and Mental Health America through

We surveyed MAP alumni to identify current practice characteristics and assess predictors of reproductive health service provision. STUDY DESIGN: We sent an online survey to alumni of MAP's Individual Clinical Training program, 2007-2015 (n=127). The primary outcome was current provision of any abortion service. Secondary outcomes included providing specific abortion services and other reproductive services. RESULTS: We received r

Access to Reproductive Health Services for Women Incarcerated in the United States: A Federal and State Policy Review.

INTRODUCTION: The United States (US) has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Women's incarceration has grown significantly since 1980, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities. Most individuals experiencing incarceration are of reproductive age, yet studies have suggested limited access to reproductive health services. State and federal policies could be a mechanism to ensure access to reproductive health services during incarceration. METHODS: We conducted a policy review using WestLaw in August 2023 and March 2024 of federal and state statutes and regulations addressin

Barriers to access reproductive and sexual health services among women with disabilities in Australia: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Women with disabilities in Australia experience persistent inequities in accessing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. Despite accounting for 21.8% of Australian women, structural barriers in policy, clinical practice, and service delivery continue to limit equitable access. This systematic review synthesises current evidence on the structural barriers shaping SRH service use among Australian women with disabilities, highlighting unmet needs and gaps to inform policy and guide future interventions. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Europe PMC, Google Scholar, and

Experiences of Female Informal Traders With Access to Health Care Services in Africa: Protocol for a Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: The African continent has witnessed a notable shift in its economic landscape, marked by a significant rise in unemployment and a parallel surge in informal trading activities. In response to economic challenges, a substantial number of women within the informal trading sector in African countries have ventured beyond their home settings to engage in trading, aiming to alleviate poverty within their households. However, this pursuit is often characterized by conditions of poverty and socioeconomic difficulties. These women frequently lack access to fundamental health care and socia

Direct and indirect barriers to hypothetical access to care among Canadian forces health services personnel.

BACKGROUND: Though research among Canadian Forces Health Services (CFHS) personnel is limited, the literature suggests formal healthcare is underused. Though much research has been conducted on particular barriers (e.g., stigma), examining a breadth of barriers could better inform behavioral interventions. Furthermore, work has yet to examine the indirect effects of barriers through their impact on intentions to access care. METHODS: CFHS participants were randomly assigned to complete either a mental health (N = 503) or physical health (N = 530) version of the survey. The survey included que
