Community health service utilisation and needs in an elderly population.

This study was carried out to determine community health service utilisation and needs of an elderly population living in a geographically defined area of Dublin. A random sample of 208 persons was taken from the 11,852 elderly persons living in the area. Activities of daily living and cognitive function were assessed in the person's own home. Whilst the community health services provided were less than comprehensive, they were targeted to those most in need; the very elderly, those living alone, and persons with a mental or physical disability. Objectively assessed need for further services f

The study aims at exploring how social workers in intellectual disability services and mental health services deliver a family-oriented practice in Hong Kong. We performed a qualitative analysis, using in-depth interview data collected from two broader studies about social worker

Accessibility of Digital Financial Applications for People With Visual Impairment: Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Routine financial activities are now conducted primarily through digital channels. Many such systems remain inaccessible to more than 2.2 billion people globally living with vision impairment, limiting independent financial management. Constrained access can create financial strain and social disadvantage, reducing access to health-enabling resources, and contributing to avoidable health inequities. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review maps evidence on the accessibility of digital financial services for individuals with visual impairment (VI) as a digital determinant of health. We synth

Is it feasible to implement a community-based participatory group programme to address issues of access to healthcare for people with disabilities in Luuka district Uganda? A study protocol for a mixed-methods pilot study.

INTRODUCTION: On average, people with disabilities face many difficulties in accessing healthcare and experience worse health outcomes. Yet, evidence on how to overcome these barriers is lacking. Participatory approaches are gaining prominence as they can generate low-cost, appropriate and scalable solutions. This study protocol is for the pilot testing of the co-created Participatory Learning and Action for Disability (PLA-D) groups to assess feasibility. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will pilot test PLA-D in five groups in Luuka district, Uganda during 2023. Each group will include approximately

Answering the Rehabilitation 2030 Call.

In 2017, the World Health Organization initiated a global effort to improve rehabilitative services by 2030, with the overall goal of helping individuals with disabilities achieve maximal independence and improved well-being. Though more than 1 billion people worldwide live with a disability, a significant portion do not have access to appropriate rehabilitative services. In low-income countries, such as Zambia, where rehabilitative services are greatly lacking, disability can further exacerbate economic disparities in the context of personal, cultural, and environmental factors that limit par

Exploring Barriers to Accessing Sexual and Reproductive Health Services among Adolescents and Young People with Physical Disabilities in South Africa.

Despite South Africa having a progressive and liberal sexual and reproductive health (SRH) policy framework, adolescents and young people with disabilities (AYPWDs) are less likely to receive sexual and reproductive healthcare, being consequently predisposed to a long-term detrimental impact on their health. Our study explored the barriers to accessing sexual and reproductive health services (SRHSs) in clinics among AYPWDs in Mpumalanga, South Africa. We conducted a descriptive qualitative study with twenty-seven AYPWDs in four focus group discussions using semi-structured interviews, audiotap
