Quantifying Staff Preferences for Workforce Retention Strategies in Remote Australian Primary Health Care Services.

AIM: To outline key criteria when choosing how to measure remote area primary health care workers' retention preferences and compare six different methodological approaches against these criteria. CONTEXT: Australians living in remote communities experience poorer health outcomes. Many health services serving remote populations have persistent workforce shortages, high staff turnover and short retention which adversely affect access to timely, appropriate health care, care continuity and cultural appropriateness of care. Improved understanding of staff preferences for different retention init

Digital health nursing in male infertility: Leadership, workforce, and policy pathways for equitable care.

Digital health technologies are reshaping reproductive care, yet their application to male infertility-an area marked by stigma, delayed help-seeking, and structural invisibility-remains underdeveloped. This narrative review synthesizes literature from 2018-2025 to examine how tele-nursing, mobile health, artificial intelligence, and digitally mediated peer support can strengthen access, privacy, and engagement for men experiencing infertility. A structured search of PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Google Scholar identified 67 relevant sources, which were synthesized across four domains: digital i

Health related selection and death rates in the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority workforce.

Follow up data on 37,355 employees of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) for the period 1946-79 were analysed to investigate the extent to which selection for work on the basis of health affected subsequent death rates. Causes of death were grouped into two broad categories for analysis: all cancers and all other causes of death. Evidence for an effect of selection of healthy individuals into the workforce was sought primarily by examining standardised mortality ratios (SMRs) by period since recruitment. SMRs for both categories were particularly low during the first two years

Evaluation of health workforce competence in maternal and neonatal issues in public health sector of Pakistan: an Assessment of their training needs.

BACKGROUND: More than 450 newborns die every hour worldwide, before they reach the age of four weeks (neonatal period) and over 500,000 women die from complications related to childbirth. The major direct causes of neonatal death are infections (36%), Prematurity (28%) and Asphyxia (23%). Pakistan has one of the highest perinatal and neonatal mortality rates in the region and contributes significantly to global neonatal mortality. The high mortality rates are partially attributable to scarcity of trained skilled birth attendants and paucity of resources. Empowerment of health care providers wi

The 'Public' in Public Involvement: A Call to Centre Frontline Staff Voices in Health Workforce Research.

Public involvement, or patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE), is widely embedded in health and care research and is valued for its moral, ethical, and methodological contributions. However, its application in workforce research raises important questions about the voices that might be missing from the 'public' when research's primary object of inquiry is healthcare staff, organisations, and systems, rather than patients and service users. This viewpoint explores tensions arising from the extension of standardised public involvement requirements, which were originally developed f

Training the public health workforce for generative AI: validation of the Italian Chatbot Usability Questionnaire.

INTRODUCTION: Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly relevant for public health practice. However, scalable training models and validated usability instruments for AI chatbots are still limited in non-English contexts. We aimed to (i) assess AI knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) among a sample of Italian public health professionals, and (ii) translate, culturally adapt, and psychometrically validate an Italian version of the Chatbot Usability Questionnaire (CUQ-IT) by applying it to a workshop-developed vaccination counseling chatbot. Representation matters: advocating for increased diversity in the pediatric surgical workforce to address health inequity.

Equitable health is the state in which all have the opportunity to attain full health potential and no disadvantage from achieving this because of social position or another socially defined circumstance [1]. One measure of society is marked by how vulnerable populations, like children, are treated, including the right to achieve and access good health. Focusing on health equity helps to address the social determinants of health which can adversely affect pediatric care and threatens surgical outcomes for the most vulnerable children in society [1-5]. Inextricable from attaining health equity

Using Implementation Science to Promote Integration and Sustainability of Community Health Workers in the HIV Workforce.

BACKGROUND: Community health worker (CHW) interventions are an evidence-based practice adopted by health care settings to increase retention in care and viral suppression for people living with HIV (PLWH) from racial/ethnic minority communities. However, disparate funding, unclear roles vis a vis other care team members, limited training and promotion opportunities, and a lack of standards for wages and tasks limit the ability to effectively use CHWs as part of the health care team. Community health worker certification as a pathway to workforce development and career advancement: a qualitative study.

Background: Community Health Workers (CHWs) play a vital role in bridging between healthcare systems and underserved communities. Although CHW certification has expanded across the United States, limited research has examined whether certification supports long-term career advancement and workforce development for CHWs themselves. This study examined how certified CHWs perceive the role of certification in shaping career trajectories and long-term workforce retention, with implications for CHW program design and public health workforce policy.
