OBJECTIVE: Determine the efficacy of percutaneous surgical treatment for talalgia due to a calcaneal spur.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This is an observational, descriptive, clinical series analyzing the outcomes of 10 patients with a diagnosis of talalgia due to plantar fasciitis with a calcaneal spur treated with percutaneous foot surgery. The end result was assessed with a visual analog scale (VAS) to measure pain, the patients' opinion and their return to activities of daily living. Central tendency and scatter measurements were calculated. The inferential analysis was done with the non-paramet

Heel pain is a common presenting symptom in ambulatory clinics. There are many causes, but a mechanical etiology is most common. Location of pain can be a guide to the proper diagnosis. The most common diagnosis is plantar fasciitis, a condition that leads to medial plantar heel pain, especially with the first weight-bearing steps in the morning and after long periods of rest. Other causes of plantar heel pain include calcaneal stress fracture (progressively worsening pain following an increase in activity level or change to a harder walking surface), nerve entrapment (pain accompanied by burn

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the effects of extra corporeal shock-wave therapy (ESWT) on the calcaneal spur length and pain severity in overweight and obese patients with symptomatic calcaneal spur.
METHODS: In eighty patients with symptomatic calcaneal spur, ESWT was administered on days 0 and 7, and visual analog scale (VAS) scores and calcaneal spur lengths (CSLs) before and 3 months later after treatment were recorded. A lateral heel radiograph was used for computer-aided linear measurements of CSL.
RESULTS: Of 80 patients, 59 (73.7%) were female and 21 were male (26.3%); age was 45.9

A variety of factors have been considered as contributing to plantar talalgia pain syndromes. This study was designed to explore a series of possible contributors to the etiology of plantar talalgia (PT) specifically in nonathletes. The influence of body mass index (BMI), SCFP thickness and compressibility index, plantar and heel surface area, BMI/heel area ratio, heel-lifting device utilization, a standing job, heel malalignment, and a calcaneal spur (CS) over the risk of developing PT was analyzed by a case-control design. Eighty-five cases were compared with 58 controls of similar age and s

Previous anatomic studies of the medial heel region were done on embalmed human cadavers. Here, the innervation of the medial heel region was studied by dissecting living tissue with the use of 3.5-power loupe magnification during decompression of the medial ankle for tarsal tunnel syndrome in 85 feet. The medial heel was found to be innervated by just one medial calcaneal nerve in 37% of the feet, by two medial calcaneal nerves in 41%, by three medial calcaneal nerves in 19%, and by four medial calcaneal nerves in 3%. An origin for a medial calcaneal nerve from the medial plantar nerve was fo

INTRODUCTION: Calcaneal spurs are bony outgrowths typically originating from the medial calcaneal tuberosity and are commonly associated with chronic plantar heel pain. Radial pressure wave therapy (rPWT) is widely used when symptoms do not respond to conservative treatments; however, optimal treatment intervals and scheduling remain unclear. This study aimed to compare conventional and accelerated rPWT schedules to determine whether a shorter treatment duration could achieve similar clinical outcomes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-eight participants with heel pain lasting at least six months

Plantar heel pain is a common disease with a high incidence in different races. It significantly reduced the quality of life of patients. However, the cause of PHP is still controversial and there were varieties of physiological factors associated with PHP. The most common pathological factor in the population was plantar fasciitis. Some existing research studies had found a correlation between calcaneal spurs and plantar fasciitis, and this study had found the correlation in Chinese population. It is invaluable not only to understand the relationship between different types of plantar calcane

Calcaneus forms the bone of the foot. Due to abnormal pressures, foot muscles and ligaments are stretched beyond their normal limits that lead to chronic plantar heel pain, among which calcaneal spur tops the list. In Ayurveda, it can be correlated to "Vātakaṇṭaka" (pricking sensation in the foot)-a painful condition of heel caused by its improper placement on the ground. To assess the effect of syringing method (modified Śṛṅga) in the treatment of Vātakaṇṭaka. A 10 ml syringe was for ease, hygiene, and to enable the case to be managed in the outpatient department. BACKGROUND: Achilles sleeve avulsion usually occurs from pre-existing insertional Achilles tendinopathy, leaving a calcific spur at the insertional site. The purpose of this study was to introduce a new technique using the spur base on the insertional site to drill the suture tunnel to repair Achilles sleeve avulsion.
METHODS: In total, 11 patients diagnosed with Achilles sleeve avulsion underwent this new surgical technique and were followed for a mean time of 40 months. Clinical outcomes were measured using the visual analog scale (VAS), American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) s

Calcaneal spurs, as a cause of plantar fasciitis, are currently debatable. A prospective study was performed to classify calcaneal spurs according to the findings from an investigation of the relationship between calcaneal spurs and plantar fasciitis. Thirty patients with calcaneal spurs and plantar heel pain underwent calcaneal spur removal and endoscopic plantar fasciotomy. The relationship between the classification of calcaneal spurs and plantar fasciitis was evaluated by endoscopic findings, clinical symptoms, radiographic images, and biopsy findings. The visual analog scale for pain and

Plantar heel pain is a prevalent condition affecting 10 % of the population, with plantar fasciitis being the most common cause. Plantar calcaneal spurs are frequently associated with plantar fasciitis, yet their role in the condition and surgical outcomes remains unclear. This study investigates the impact of plantar calcaneal spur excision on the outcomes of plantar fascia surgery, utilizing a radiofrequency microtenotomy and bone marrow aspiration technique. A retrospective review of 136 plantar fascia surgeries was conducted with 83 cases including plantar calcaneal spur excision. Demograp
