Intracranial capillary hemangiomas are very rare, though several spinal capillary hemangiomas have recently been reported. We report here a case of intracranial capillary hemangioma with multiple cysts and review the current literature of similar cases. A 4-month-old girl was referred to our hospital for treatment of hydrocephalus and a cerebellar mass lesion. She presented with hemangiomas distributed widely over the body, as well as disseminated hemangiomas in the pleura, liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys and vagina. Pathological examination of the specimen from the vagina confirmed the diagn

BACKGROUND: Capillary hemangiomas of the eyelids and orbit can cause refractive and occlusive amblyopia. Although oral and intralesional steroid injections are the most common treatment modalities, sometimes they are not successful. There is a paucity of information in the literature on the success of eliminating amblyogenic factors by treating these lesions with surgical resection.
METHODS: Retrospective chart review of 10 patients in two pediatric ophthalmology practices who underwent surgical excision of a capillary hemangioma that was causing amblyopia and that had failed to regress with

This 3-month-old child presented with an enlarging head circumference arising from communicating hydrocephalus with large subarachnoid spaces in the posterior fossa. Neuroimaging performed to clarify the origin and pathogenesis of the hydrocephalus revealed a vascular lesion within the dorsal spinal cord. Insertion of a cerebrospinal fluid shunt and total removal of the spinal tumor were performed successfully. Histological examination of the medullar lesion demonstrated a capillary hemangioma. Proposed mechanisms for increased intracranial pressure and spinal cord lesions are presented. A spi

Although the head and neck is not an uncommon region, the nasal cavity is extremely rare sites for lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH) in children. The authors report a case of an 11-year-old boy with LCH of the nasal cavity presenting with nasal obstruction and epistaxis. To our knowledge, on searching the English literature, only nine cases of hemangioma of nasal cavities have been reported in children since 1985. The authors feel that it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of lesion of the nasal cavity.

PURPOSE: Retrospective analysis of the morphologic and hemodynamic characteristics of hemangiomas in infants provided by color Doppler sonography.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 94 hemangiomas were studied in 87 children separated into four classes of age (0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, > 12 months). Eleven were followed with several examinations. Echogenicity, compared to normal subcutaneous tissues, and degree of vascularization were assessed qualitatively. Resistive index (RI) was measured in 78 cases.
RESULTS: All lesions presented as vascularized solid masses: 63% were hypoechoic, 16% hyp

The nasal haemangiomas are a very rare cause of epistaxis and nasal obstruction. We report a case of capillary haemangioma with the appearance of a large pedunculated nasal polyp, which was located in the middle area of the right nasal cavity's roof. We also report the clinical and histopathological findings, the differential diagnosis and the therapeutic approach of these benign angiomatous tumors.

The authors report on an encapsulated, fibrous capillary hemangioma, 4 cm in diameter, located at the insertion of the umbilical cord, which caused a polyhydramnion in the 26th week of gestation. The diagnosis of capillary hemangioma was confirmed by multiple sonographic examinations. In the 27th week of gestation, 700 ml of amniotic fluid were drained by a single transabdominal amniocentesis. The child had to be delivered by cesarean section in the 36th week of gestation owing to a breech presentation in a primigravida mother and signs of respiratory placental insufficiency. No malformations

Capillary hemangiomas (CH) are benign proliferative vascular neoplasms commonly present in skin and soft tissues but rarely found intracranially. We describe a case of a 14-year-old male patient with histologically proven CH of the optic nerve, who underwent surgical resection of the lesion due to progressive visual loss. Imaging studies revealed a cystic-solid formation in the suprasellar region lateralized to the right and located above the pituitary gland. This case shows that CH may originate from the optic nerve, leading to its gradual compression and causing optic neuropathy. While the c

CLINICAL CASE: A 22-year-old woman patient, diagnosed with an inclusion cyst of the conjunctiva in the nasal sector of the left eye, who after 2 shot/needle injections in the lesion came to our clinic with a dense subconjunctival hemorrhage in four quadrants and with severe pain. After excision biopsy, a capillary hemangioma of the conjunctiva was diagnosed.
DISCUSSION: Conjunctival capillary hemangioma is mainly a benign lesion, asymptomatic and mostly congenital in origin, its progression or de novo growth is rare in adulthood.

A benign lesion also known as pyogenic granuloma, lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH) is relatively common a cutaneous and mucosal lesion. Earlier reports of LCH within the larynx and trachea have been reviewed and determined to be granulation tissue with an earlier history of airway trauma. Histopathologic review varies over time in this vascular lesion. Earlier, there is an extensive inflammatory infiltrate similar to granulation tissue; however, this becomes fibromyxoid as the lesion matures. An appropriate history is therefore mandatory to exclude any potential trauma, which would lead to g

Intussusception is one of the most common abdominal emergencies in children, but identifying the cause is very difficult. Hemangioma is a common tumor of the head and neck area in children, but it rarely arises in the gastrointestinal tract. This report describes a rare occurrence of intussusception caused by capillary hemangioma of the colon that was identified by ultrasonography (US), computed tomography (CT), and colonoscopy. A male child aged 2 years and 10 months developed painful abdominal cramps and hematochezia. Abdominal US and CT revealed both target and pseudo-kidney signs in the co

A 49-year-old man presented with a 8-month history of gait and sphincter disturbances. Examination revealed a spastic paraplegia predominant on the left limb, associated with decreased tactile sensitivity below T10. MRI showed a right posterolateral intramedullary lesion with an isosignal on T1-weighted images and a mild hypersignal on T2-weighted images, with an intense contrast enhancement; the spinal cord presented with an hypersignal on T2-weighted images. At operation, a vascular tumor presented at the spinal cord surface, was well demarcated from the parenchyma and was easily removed. Mi

Filar lipomas are a subtype of spinal lipomas wherein adipose tissue accumulation is restricted to the filum terminale. Embryologically, filar lipomas are considered to occur because of the failure of secondary neurulation, although the precise mechanism is not yet completely understood. Involvement of ectopic mesodermal, ectodermal, and endodermal tissues in spinal lipomas has been occasionally reported, and the origin of these ectopic tissues has been supposed to be migration of pluripotent tissues, which exist during secondary neurulation. We report an infantile case of capillary hemangioma

Intraluminal masses of the azygos vein are of rare occurrence. The differential diagnosis includes bland thrombus, tumor thrombus, epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, and leiomyosarcoma. To this list, the authors add an uncommon case of intravenous lobular capillary hemangioma, also known as intravenous pyogenic granuloma, of the azygos vein, inducing a recurrent large right pleural effusion. CT, MR, and PET/CT features of this lesion are presented.
