Case report of a pubertal female patient with clinical signs of hypogastric pain initiated with the menarche, dysmenorrhoea and a palpable pelvic mass. The suspected clinical signs, ultrasound scans, urographies and CAT, confirmed the existence of an uterovaginal duplicity with right hematocolpos due to imperforate septum and pool of menstrual blood, as well as ipsilateral renal agenesis. The vagina examination and resection of the septum under sedation solved the case.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the ultrasound features and classify the lesion types of congenital vaginal oblique septum syndrome (CVOS) in 21 patients prior to surgery. Grey-scale pelvic ultrasound was performed to evaluate the uterus, vagina and kidneys in 21 patients with suspected CVOS. Ultrasound features, including the presence of a double uterus, hematocolpos masses and renal absence, in CVOS types I, II and III were studied and compared with intra-operative results and the results of surgery. Ultrasound identified the presence of double uteruses and cervices with ipsi

STUDY OBJECTIVE: To show a conservative surgical treatment for a female adolescent affected by Wunderlich syndrome with didelphys uterus and obstructed hemivagina.
DESIGN: Stepwise demonstration of the technique with narrated video footage.
SETTING: In the context of obstructive congenital müllerian anomalies, involving a stagnation of menstrual blood, the Wunderlich syndrome is the most common and constantly characterized by the duplicity of the uterine body, by the presence of an imperforate hemivagina, and by renal agenesis ipsilateral to the obstructed hemivagina. The imperforate hemivag

The Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome is a rare congenital disorder with uterus didelphys, unilateral obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis, more common on right side. HWW syndrome usually presents at puberty with symptoms like pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea and palpable mass due to the associated hematocolpos or hematometra. Delayed presentation in adulthood as infertility can occur in case of incomplete vaginal septum. Short term complications like pyohematocolpos, pyosalpinx, or pelviperitonitis, and long-term complications, such as endometriosis, increased risk of abortion and in

Didelphys uterus with imperforated obstructed hemivagina is a rare condition. Most often, it is diagnosed a few months after the menarche. Hematocolpos, hematometria and sometimes hematosalpinx are responsible for pelvic pain and dysmenorrhea. Symptoms can be delayed when a fistulisation from the hematocolpos to permeable contralateral vagina is present. Sometimes, diagnosis is not made before adulthood during an infection of the hematocolpos. Useful additional exams include pelvic ultrasound and, in some cases, MRI, which is the best exam to precisely describe the type of malformation. An ips

Hematocolpos should be considered in adolescent girls who present with lower abdominal pain, a pelvic mass, and primary amenorrhea. The authors describe a rare case of a young child with Down's syndrome, precocious puberty, and hematocolpos caused by a transverse vaginal septum. The diagnosis was facilitated using a combination of computed tomography and ultrasound scanning. J Pediatr Surg 36:641-643.

BACKGROUND: Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich Syndrome is a rare malformation syndrome characterized by uterus didelphys with obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis. Symptoms appear most often after menarche and are secondary to hematocolpos. We compare clinical symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of two patients, a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old.
CASE REPORT: Despite the non-uniform clinical symptoms, it should be noted that in both patients, the 13-year-old and the 17-year-old, hematocolpos, which was probably the cause of lower abdominal pain, was diagnosed with ultrasound. The diagnosis

AIM: To review the experience of a single tertiary center with obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal agenesis (OHVIRA syndrome) and evaluate if MRI findings correlate with outcome.
METHODS: Patients (n = 32) diagnosed with OHVIRA syndrome between 2001 and 2019 were analyzed. Presenting symptoms, age of menarche, age at operation, MRI findings, management, and outcome were reviewed. In sagittal MRI planes, distance from hematocolpos to perineum was measured. Measurements were compared among patients who underwent single-stage vaginoplasty and hemihysterectomy.
RESULTS: Mean age at diagn

UNLABELLED: Obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly syndrome also known as Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome is a rare congenital urogenital anomaly characterised by Mullerian duct anomalies associated with mesonephric duct anomalies. A 10-year old female presented with acute lower abdominal pain, urinary retention and scanty menstrual flow during her first menstruation. Ultrasonography and contrast computed tomography showed uterine didelphys, hematocolpos, obstructed hemivagina and left renal agenesis. Hemivaginal septal resection and drainage of the hematocolpos were done and op

An uncommon malformation of the female genital system is the transverse septum which is often known as the vaginal septum. A problem with the union and channelling of the Mullerian conductors and urogenital sinus is the primary common cause of progressive pathogenesis. This anatomical blockage can block the vagina, which can lead to a hematocolpos that is connected with periodic pelvic discomfort in teenage females immediately after menarche. A thorough clinical gynaecological evaluation, particularly an abdominal or transrectal ultrasound scan, and in even more complicated situations, magneti

A 13-year-old girl presented to the emergency department with a 5-day history of lower abdominal pain and dysuria that coincided with the onset of her last menstrual period. Menarche occurred 4 months previously and previous cycles were normal. The CAT scan of the abdomen and pelvis revealed a uterus didelphis with obstruction. Abdominal pain was due to hematocolpos and hematometra. The left hemivagina was distended with hematocolpos, and left renal agenesis was also noted. The vaginal septum was removed surgically without complications and she continued to be monitored closely.

Although numerous etiologies for endometriosis have been proposed, it is clear that retrograde menstruation and cell-mediated lymphocytotoxicity each play a significant role in the disease's development. A comprehensive theory of pathogenesis of endometriosis holds that development of the disorder depends upon amount of retrograde menstruation and the ability of the immune response to remove the debris. To test this theory, 64 women with mullerian anomalies and intra-abdominal surgery were evaluated for the presence or absence of endometriosis, patency of tubes, hematocolpos or hematometra, an

INTRODUCTION: OHVIRA-syndrome (obstructed hemivagina, ipsilateral renal agenesis/anomaly) is a rare Mullerian duct anomaly that can lead to complications in pubescent children.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of a 13-year-old patient with acute right-sided lower quadrant abdominal pain who was referred for exclusion of appendicitis. As a result of the examination (transvaginal ultrasound scan and gynecological examination), a female genital tract anomaly was suspected in the form of obstructed hemivagina with hematocolpos and hematometra. The MRI scan showed hematocolpos and hematometra on the

A transverse vaginal septum is a rare Müllerian anomaly caused by incomplete fusion between the Müllerian ducts and the urogenital sinus. It can obstruct menstrual flow, leading to hematocolpos, hydrocolpos, or pyocolpos. We report a 12-year-old girl with recurrent hematocolpos, abdominal pain, urinary symptoms, and infections. Imaging showed a complete transverse vaginal septum and grade II vesicoureteral reflux. She underwent surgical drainage, septum resection, and ureteral reimplantation. Recovery was favorable, with symptom resolution and preserved renal function. This case emphasizes the

BACKGROUND: Genital tuberculosis affecting prepubertal girls is extremely uncommon, posing a great diagnostic challenge. It is a form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis usually seen in the reproductive age group. It can lead to significant health problems, including infertility, pelvic pain, menstrual irregularities in women, or amenorrhea. Genital tuberculosis is even rarer when coupled with an imperforate hymen, thus presenting a rare and diagnostically challenging presentation. Imperforate hymen is an uncommon obstructive congenital abnormality of the female reproductive tract with an incidence

Acute urinary retention is rare symptom in young adolescent girls. Imperforate hymen can be a cause of acute urinary retention possibly due to the pressure effect of the distended vagina (hematocolpos) on the lower urinary tract. However, the mechanism of progression to urinary retention is unknown. We report on two cases of adolescent girls with imperforate hymen who presented with acute urinary retention. A series of volume tolerance tests of the urinary bladder and urodynamic studies before operation revealed highly elevated urethral resistance, which was induced by interaction of large amo
