Hysterectomy for hematometra in a 15-year-old mentally handicapped girl with congenital cervicovaginal agenesis and concomitant ovarian adenoma.

We report a case of hematometra and bilateral hematosalphinx in a 15-year-old mentally handicapped adolescent girl, complicated by vaginal agenesis over cervical atresia in the presence of an ovarian adenoma. The case was managed by abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salphingectomy of the hematosalphinx, which had formed a tubo-ovarian mass. One ovary was preserved. This case also considers the management of the mentally handicapped patient unable to comprehend pain arising from cryptomenorrhea.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome complicated by hematometra and hematosalpinx treated with laparoscopic uterine drain placement: a case report.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome is a reproductive tract malformation occurring in ~1 in 5000 female births. It is characterized by congenital agenesis or marked hypoplasia of the Mullerian ducts derivative structures. About 3% of MRKH patients have a functioning uterus. A 12-year-old otherwise healthy female presented with persistent cyclic severe right lower quadrant pain. She was found to have MRKH syndrome with a right-sided functioning uterus and hematometra and ipsilateral hematosalpinx. She subsequently underwent diagnostic cystoscopy, vaginoscopy, and pelvic laparoscopy.

Case report: Elective management of a bicornuate uterus with hematometra, incidentally found submucosal fibroids, rectus sheath hematoma, and hydronephrosis in a resource limited setting.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Bicornuate uterus is a rare type of congenital mullerian anomaly, presenting as a diagnostic challenge. Metroplasty either via an open approach or laparoscopically can be performed to definitively diagnose and treat the defect. CASE PRESENTATION: A 26-year-old female, with no known comorbids and past surgical history of endometriotic cyst excision presented with acute symptoms of left lower abdominal pain, burning micturition, and relative constipation. After clinical and radiologic investigations, the diagnosis of bicornuate was suspected. An elective exploratory

An unusual case of cervical diverticulum identified by presence of 3 cavities at diagnostic hysteroscopy.

Herein is presented the case report of a patient who had severe dysmenorrhea since menarche, known right unicornuate uterus with a left rudimentary horn, and recurrent hematometra. Previous hysteroscopic drainage of the hematometra temporarily alleviated the symptoms. At subsequent hysteroscopy, 3 cavities were identified, 2 corresponding to the uterine horns and the other to a cervical diverticulum. Hysteroscopic metroplasty with drainage of the rudimentary horn hematometra provided long-term relief of the symptoms. The diagnosis was verified at diagnostic laparoscopy.

A case report of bicornis bicollis uterus with unilateral cervical atresia: an unusual aetiology of chronic debilitating pelvic pain in a Cameroonian teenager.

BACKGROUND: Congenital uterine anomalies like bicornis or bicornuate uterus are relatively rare in sub-Saharan Africa. They are associated with an increased rate of spontaneous abortion, preterm delivery, and infertility. The occurrence of bicornis bicollis uterus with unilateral cervical atresia is exceptional and its management is controversial. We hereby report a rare cause of chronic pelvic pain in a Cameroonian teenager due to unilateral obstructive hematometra and hematosalpinx in the non-communicating horn of a bicornis bicollis uterus. CASE PRESENTATION: A 13-year-old premenarchal non

Long-term complications of endometrial ablation: cause, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

At first, total endometrial ablation seemed extremely safe in the short term. However, as time passed, certain unique long-term complications became evident. The problem is that after this procedure, intrauterine scarring and contracture can occur. Any bleeding from persistent or regenerating endometrium behind the scar may be obstructed and cause problems such as central hematometra, cornual hematometra, postablation tubal sterilization syndrome, retrograde menstruation, and potential delay in the diagnosis of endometrial cancer. The incidence of these complications is probably understated be

Endometrium of cavitary rudimentary horns in unicornuate uteri.

The rudimentary horns removed from ten patients with unicornuate uterus, subclass A1b, were studied by light and scanning electron microscopy. Seven of the horns removed were small in volume (range 7.5-15.7 mL) and three were larger (range 20.8-39.7 mL). In four cases the endometrial cavity communicated with the tubal lumen, hematometra was present in three cases, and endometriosis was diagnosed in six. In six of the seven rudimentary horns without hematometra, the endometrial mucosa did not correspond to the cycle phase of the endometrium of the hemiuterus; however, in the three rudimentary h

Congenital cervico-vaginal aplasia with a functional uterus: A case report and review of literature.

Maldevelopment of the vagina and cervix is frequently accompanied by uterine aplasia or hypoplasia. Complete cervico-vaginal aplasia with a normally developing uterus is a very uncommon type of developmental failure. Failure to treat the condition can result in complications such as hematometra and hematosalpinx caused by the retrograde flow of blood into the fallopian tubes. In this case report, we describe the case of a 32-year-old woman experiencing cyclic abdominal pain and primary amenorrhea. The patient exhibited cervico-vaginal agenesis, with a functional uterus that was complicated by

Endometriosis and mullerian anomalies.

Although numerous etiologies for endometriosis have been proposed, it is clear that retrograde menstruation and cell-mediated lymphocytotoxicity each play a significant role in the disease's development. A comprehensive theory of pathogenesis of endometriosis holds that development of the disorder depends upon amount of retrograde menstruation and the ability of the immune response to remove the debris. To test this theory, 64 women with mullerian anomalies and intra-abdominal surgery were evaluated for the presence or absence of endometriosis, patency of tubes, hematocolpos or hematometra, an

OHVIRA-syndrome (Obstructed hemivagina with ipsilateral renal anomaly) as differential diagnosis of acute lower abdominal pain.

INTRODUCTION: OHVIRA-syndrome (obstructed hemivagina, ipsilateral renal agenesis/anomaly) is a rare Mullerian duct anomaly that can lead to complications in pubescent children. CASE REPORT: We report a case of a 13-year-old patient with acute right-sided lower quadrant abdominal pain who was referred for exclusion of appendicitis. As a result of the examination (transvaginal ultrasound scan and gynecological examination), a female genital tract anomaly was suspected in the form of obstructed hemivagina with hematocolpos and hematometra. The MRI scan showed hematocolpos and hematometra on the
