Reproductive outcomes of high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation and myomectomy for uterine fibroids: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

RESEARCH QUESTION: Does high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation have comparable reproductive outcomes to myomectomy for patients with uterine fibroids? DESIGN: A systematic review and a meta-analysis of data extracted from published studies up to March 2024. RESULTS: Through a more structured analysis, HIFU treatment yielded a pooled pregnancy rate of 23.3% (95% CI 11.5 to 37.6%) and a pooled live birth rate (LBR) of 17.3% (95% CI 7.8 to 29.3%), significantly lower than those after myomectomy, which had a pooled pregnancy rate of 56.9% (95% CI 45.6 to 67.9%) and a pooled LBR of 44.

A feasibility analysis of the ArcBlate MR-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound system for the ablation of uterine fibroids.

PURPOSE: Uterine fibroids are benign gynecologic tumors and commonly occur in women by the age of 50. Women with symptomatic uterine fibroids generally receive surgical intervention, while they do not favor the invasive therapies. To evaluate the feasibility and safety of a novel magnetic resonance-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MRgHIFU) modality, ArcBlate, in the treatment of uterine fibroids. METHODS: Nine patients with uterine fibroids and one patient with adenomyosis were treated with ArcBlate MRgHIFU. Tumor size and quality of life were evaluated postoperatively at 1 and 3 mon

The role of T1 perfusion-based classification in magnetic resonance-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation of uterine fibroids.

OBJECTIVE: To comparatively evaluate the role of magnetic resonance (MR) T1 perfusion-based time-signal intensity (SI) curves of fibroid tissue and the myometrium in classification of fibroids for predicting treatment outcomes of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment. METHODS: The fibroids of 74 women who underwent MR-HIFU treatment were classified into group A (time-SI curve of fibroid lower than that of the myometrium) and group B (time-SI curve of fibroid equal to or higher than that of the myometrium). Feasibility Study on MR-Guided High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Ablation of Sciatic Nerve in a Swine Model: Preliminary Results.

INTRODUCTION: Spastic patients often seek neurolysis, the permanent destruction of the sciatic nerve, for better pain management. MRI-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MRgHIFU) may serve as a noninvasive alternative to the prevailing, more intrusive techniques. This in vivo acute study is aimed at performing sciatic nerve neurolysis using a clinical MRgHIFU system. METHODS: The HIFU ablation of sciatic nerves was performed in swine (n = 5) using a HIFU system integrated with a 3 T MRI scanner. Acute lesions were confirmed using T1-weighted contrast-enhanced (CE) MRI and histopathology

BACKGROUND: High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a nonsurgical therapy for selected patients with localized prostate cancer (PCa). OBJECTIVE: The long-term oncologic and morbidity outcomes of primary HIFU therapy for localized PCa were evaluated in a prospective, single-arm, single-institution cohort study. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Participants were patients treated with HIFU for localized PCa from 1997 to 2009. Excluded were patients with local recurrence following radiotherapy. Assessing Fab-Functionalized Gold Nanoparticles-Mediated Thermal Enhancement during High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Ablation in a Mouse Tumor Model.

High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) stands out as a noninvasive modality that is gaining prominence for the localized treatment of malignant tumors. A mouse tumor model was used to assess the level of thermal enhancement afforded by Fab-functionalized gold nanoparticles (gNPs) during HIFU treatment. Prostate cancer cells (PC3) were used to grow tumors on the right flank of immunodeficient NSG mice. Three levels of gNPs concentrations (0%, 0.019%, and 0.125%) were injected directly into the tumors. HIFU sonication was performed at acoustic power levels of 30W, 40W, and 50W for the duration

A comprehensive numerical procedure for high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation of breast tumour on an anatomically realistic breast phantom.

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) as a promising and impactful modality for breast tumor ablation, entails the precise focalization of high-intensity ultrasonic waves onto the tumor site, culminating in the generation of extreme heat, thus ablation of malignant tissues. In this paper, a comprehensive three-dimensional (3D) Finite Element Method (FEM)-based numerical procedure is introduced, which provides exceptional capacity for simulating the intricate multiphysics phenomena associated with HIFU. Furthermore, the application of numerical procedures to an anatomically realistic breast

OBJECTIVES: To compare the treatment success and safety of ultrasound- and MR-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) with surgery for treating symptomatic uterine fibroids. METHODS: We searched studies comparing HIFU with surgery for fibroids in different databases from January 2000 to July 2020. The mean difference (MD) or relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) for different outcome parameters was synthesized. RESULTS: We included 10 studies involving 4450 women. Treatment of cornual pregnancy in a patient with adenomyosis by high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation: A case report.

RATIONALE: Cornual ectopic pregnancy in adenomyosis patients is a rare clinical condition, which may require careful approach for accurate diagnosis and treatment. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 38-year-old woman presented with amenorrhea for 8 weeks and serum HCG levels of 1455 mmol/L. The B ultrasound showed an endometrial thickness of 1.7 cm, and the presence of a cystic structure (16 6 mm) at the right uterine horn. Color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) accurately detected and confirmed the position of the cystic structure with its clear boundaries. DIAGNOSES: Cornual ectopic pregnancy in adenomyosis.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect of ablations with pulsed and continuous high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) on the target area containing large blood vessels in isolated perfused porcine liver. METHODS: An isolated perfused liver model was established by perfusing the isolated porcine liver with autologous blood through the portal vein and hepatic artery using an cardiopulmonary bypass machine. With B-mode ultrasound guidance, a blood vessel about 4 mm in diameter was selected, and pulsed and continuous HIFU ablation at the same dose was delivered along the blood vessel at 3 mm to the v
