A new fossil locality in the Late Permian Zewan Formation reveals evidence of marine chondrichthyan in Kashmir Himalaya.

In recent years, the Permo-Triassic rocks of Kashmir have attracted considerable attention due to their intriguing preservation of fossil assemblages and relatively continuous sedimentary sequences, offering key insights into the end-Permian mass extinction event and subsequent biotic recovery. Among these, the Mandakpal section on the southern limb of the Vihi Syncline has remained comparatively understudied, despite its rich fossil assemblages and apparently continuous Permo-Triassic sequence, similar to the well-studied Guryul Ravine. In this study, the Mandakpal section is re-investigated

Mercury exposure and potential hazards through vegetation intake to large herbivores along an elevational gradient in the Central Himalayas.

Vegetation in mountains offers specific habitats for endemic wildlife while serving as a sink for long-range transported pollutants such as mercury (Hg). Over half of the atmospheric Hg is absorbed by vegetation, making it a major pathway for Hg transfer into terrestrial ecosystems. As one of the world's 22 biodiversity hotspots and situated between the major Hg emitters in Asia, the Himalayas host numerous endemic and endangered species, including large herbivores that play vital ecological roles. We investigated total Hg (THg) in vegetation across five vegetation zones along the longest elev

Elevated CO2 modulates miRNA expression level differentially in Arabidopsis thaliana populations originated at different elevations of Indian West Himalayas.

Plants response towards increasing atmospheric [CO2] have predominantly been investigated in great details in context to morpho-physiology and gene regulation. While miRNAs are known to play critical roles in stress responses, the impact of elevated CO₂ on miRNA regulation especially in plant populations evolved under different climatic conditions remains unexplored. Plant populations evolved at different climatic conditions may respond differently towards specific stress. Here, we investigated the expression pattern of miRNAs in the two Indian Arabidopsis thaliana populations evolved at very

Ectoparasite diversity and Orientia tsutsugamushi infection in rodent hosts from scrub typhus-endemic areas of the Western Himalayas, India.

Scrub typhus has re-emerged as an important public health concern in Himachal Pradesh, India, and is caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi. Effective control efforts are limited by outdated data on ectoparasite vectors and infection rates among reservoir hosts in this endemic region of the Western Himalayas. We conducted a comprehensive field study across eight districts of Himachal Pradesh to examine ectoparasite diversity associated with rodents and shrews in an area endemic for scrub typhus. Small mammals such as rodents and shrews were trapped, and their ectoparasites were collected and morphol

Integrated morphological and phylogenomic analyses revealed a novel genus Paramicrotoena (Lamiaceae - Pogostemoneae) discovered in the Pan-Himalaya.

Reticulate evolution, driven by incomplete lineage sorting (ILS) and gene flow, is increasingly recognized as a fundamental process shaping lineage diversification, posing both challenges and opportunities for taxonomic treatment. During field investigations in Xizang, China, we discovered a morphologically distinct new species exhibiting certain similarities with the genera Microtoena yet clearly differing in corolla morphology. We sampled all 12 currently recognized genera within the tribe Pogostemoneae and conducted phylogenomic analyses integrating data from 539 low-copy orthologous nuclea

Source apportionment of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin/furans and polychlorinated biphenyls in soil from the Gyirong Valley in the Himalayas.

The Tibetan Plateau is an important area for persistent organic pollutants (POPs) research because of high-altitude condensation and global distillation. However, the sources of the POPs in remote regions have not been quantified, which is critical for global control of POPs. The Gyirong Valley in the Himalayas bordering Nepal serves as an important pathway for cross-border transport of POPs to the Tibetan Plateau. In this study, the occurrences of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin/furans (PCDD/Fs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) as typical POPs were investigated in surface soil samples co

Genetic structure and triazole resistance among Aspergillus fumigatus populations from remote and undeveloped regions in Eastern Himalaya.

Aspergillus fumigatus is a ubiquitous mold and a common human fungal pathogen. Recent molecular population genetic and epidemiological analyses have revealed evidence for long-distance gene flow and high genetic diversity within most local populations of A. fumigatus. However, little is known about the impact of regional landscape factors in shaping the population diversity patterns of this species. Here we sampled extensively and investigated the population structure of A. fumigatus from soils in the Three Parallel Rivers (TPR) region in Eastern Himalaya. This region is remote, undeveloped an
